TV Network Thought It Could Mock Christians With New Show–Now It’s Coming Back To Haunt Them
"We do NOT want this show hurting the minds of the next generation."

The TV Land cable network is wrapping up the first season of its original sitcom titled “Impastor,” a comedy about a fugitive from justice, a drug addict, and a hardcore gambler who has a hand in the death of a gay Lutheran pastor who’s identity he then steals. Presumably, “hilarity” ensues. The show has not received good reviews, but still the folks at Movieguide.org hope to make sure this is the first and only season by organizing a petition to have the anti-Christian show canceled.
The show stars Michael Rosenbaum as Buddy Dobbs, a low-life who assumes the identity of gay Lutheran pastor Jonathan Barlow who died trying to keep Buddy from committing suicide. Dobbs then appears at the small-town church where the pastor was going before he died trying to save the criminal’s life.
The show employs as much anti-religious trope as it can and, according to even secular reviewers, seems to go more for controversy than humor.
Now, those at Movieguide.org, a group that aims at redeeming the values of the entertainment industry according to biblical principles, say that the sitcom is so hateful of religion and Christianity that it does not deserve a second season.
Movieguide, founded in 1985 by past president of the Episcopal Radio & Television Foundation, Dr. Ted Baehr, is asking people who care about Christianity to sign a petition to have “Impastor” canceled.
The folks at Movieguide need your help for a final push against this anti-Christian TV series.
“On July 15, the network TV Land which is known for airing more family friendly programming like GILLIGAN’S ISLAND and BONANZA premiered an original show with a horrendously offensive premise,” Movieguide.org writes on its website.
TV Land’s IMPASTOR follows a near suicidal con-man who takes the identity of a gay pastor who was on his way to take over the pastoral duties at an old Lutheran church. The con-man knows nothing about the Bible, but this doesn’t stop him from pretending to be the gay pastor the congregation thinks him to be, while also participating in drugs and sexual promiscuity.
Right now, TV Land just decided to renew IMPASTOR for a second season. We need to let them know that this was the wrong choice!
“Help us tell TV Land and their advertisers that we do NOT want this show hurting the minds of the next generation,” the site concludes.
