I just got accused of being an animal abuser!

I only participate on one other board - a secular one - and then mostly with a group of ladies who meet up in a daily thread. Well, first I mentioned that the puppies get a swat on the butt when they run away (which they do frequently), and got accused of animal abuse by a bunch of busybodies who aren't part of our group but apparently read our thread. Yeah, they're right....I should either sit the puppies down and reason with them, or else let them keep going in the street until they get hit by a car. They KNOW they're doing wrong, because as soon as they see me they hustle to get back in the yard, then slink away and hide.
I found with my cats that, after spraying them a few times when they go where they shouldn't, all I have to do now is just reach for the spray bottle, and they take off! I want to do the same with the puppies, with a raised newspaper.
Then several others of them the (non-regulars) got all over me because I said I keep the puppies in the fenced-in yard...THAT"S ABUSE!!!! Admittedly, it's a terrible place...big yard, with their own pool, two dog houses (including an expensive, insulated Puppy Palace), dozens of toys, access to the back porch with two cushy dog beds, treats several times a day, including special doggy ice cream..... I supposed I should bring them in the house where they can pee and poop all over the place, and destroy my furniture like they do anything they can outside.
I'm in so much pain I can hardly move, yet one of those busybodies didn't ask how I'm feeling, but expressed concern that I wasn't taking care of the dogs! I was sooo tempted to respond with something like, "Don't worry, I knocked over the trash can so they can scrounge for something to eat in it." ;D (It hurts like heck to do it...but the animals are all getting their food.)
My animals are my family, and I love them....but that doesn't mean they can take over the place and pillage and destroy everything. In fact, the kitty who has a habit of peeing on small appliances is now relegated to the outside....but she's fed the same as the indoor cats, and always has access to water; she can go under the porch in the rain.
I can only imagine how those women's kids are...if they let their animals walk all over them, their kids are probably spoiled brats who don't know the meaning of discipline.
OK, I had to vent.... Anyone else think these puppies (who are quite big, BTW - about 25 pounds) are being treated terribly?
