www.israeltoday.co.il/NachrichtenHeute/tabid/178/nid/22903/language/en-US/Default.aspxWe have received a lot of responses to a short article in the August-September 2011 print edition of Israel Today that identifies Glenn Beck as an "Evangelical Christian." First, we would like to retract that label, as it is clearly erroneous when it comes to Beck. We apologize for the mistake. We would like to point out, however, that though he is Mormon, Beck's love for Israel appears to be firmly based on his faith in the Bible. That said, it has always been Israel Today's job to report on issues as Israelis see them. And Israelis see Beck as a Christian, plain and simple. Just as most Westerners see all Jews as Jews or all Muslims as Muslims, so, too, do Israelis see all Christians as Christians. Both sides are typically ignorant about the seemingly small, but very important differences that divide the various sects within each religion. To most Israelis, there is no difference between a Baptist, a Charismatic, a Catholic or a Mormon. Just as to most Western Christians there is little or no difference between a "Secular", a Reform, a Karaite, or a Chasidic Jew. But, again, as reporters, we should have more closely investigated that point, and not identified Beck with a movement within Christianity to which he does not belong. We are sorry, and hope none of our readers took offense at the mistake.
