1984 by George Orwell [Audiobook]
Published on Sep 8, 2013
1984 by George Orwell Part 1 of 3 Audiobook Summary: Winston Smith is a low-ranking member of the ruling Party in London, in the nation of Oceania. Everywhere Winston goes, even his own home, the Party watches him through telescreens; everywhere he looks he sees the face of the Party's seemingly omniscient leader, a figure known only as Big Brother. The Party controls everything in Oceania, even the people's history and language. Currently, the Party is forcing the implementation of an invented language called Newspeak, which attempts to prevent political rebellion by eliminating all words related to it. Even thinking rebellious thoughts is illegal. Such thoughtcrime is, in fact, the worst of all crimes.

Whether it was prophetic or an instruction manual, 1984 is a book everyone should read, along with Animal Farm. We're now living in this nightmare, and only moments away from its full implementation to a degree even Orwell didn't foresee: "eyes" in the form of drone insects, even "smart sand".
And Jesus knows mankind cannot survive such a world. Come quickly, Lord Jesus!

We're now living in this nightmare, and only moments away from its full implementation to a degree even Orwell didn't foresee: "eyes" in the form of drone insects, even "smart sand". And Jesus knows mankind cannot survive such a world. Come quickly, Lord Jesus! I agree, this should be a required reading for everyone especially our young people. I'm glad I read it when I was in high school when it was one of many required reading for us. I wonder if it's still a required reading today? Knowing our world today I highly doubt it. I'll have to ask my 15 year old 10th grader granddaughter if it is. When I read it (way back in the Dark Gloomy Middle Ages of 1976 ) I thought this book is so far removed from our world it couldn't possibly ever happen... little did I know that many years hence that's exactly what did happen(and then some). I even think it's gone way BEYOND the boundaries of the book. I think there are stuff going on behind the scenes now that would shock even Mr. Orwell.
