President Barack Obama gave an address at American University today trying to build support for the Iranian nuclear deal, which is facing bi-partisan opposition in Congress.
One of the purposes of the speech appeared to be to make it a partisan issue, blaming Republicans for not seeing that it is a good deal and going so far as to liken GOP lawmakers to “hardliners” in Iran.
“I’ve had to make a lot of tough calls as president, but whether or not this deal is good for American security is not one of those calls, it’s not even close,” said Obama. “Unfortunately, we’re living through a time in American politics where every foreign policy decision is viewed through a partisan prison, evaluated by headline-grabbing soundbites, and so before the ink was even dry on this deal, before Congress even read it, a majority of Republicans declared their virulent opposition,” he added.
“Just because Iranian hardliners chant ‘Death to America’ does not mean that that’s what all Iranians believe,” Obama stated. “In fact, it’s those hardliners who are most comfortable with the status quo. It’s those hardliners chanting ‘Death to America’ who have been most opposed to the deal. They’re making common cause with the Republican Caucus.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu believes that when the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Khomeini, agrees with thousands of Iranians as they chant “Death to America” and “Death to Israel,” he and they should be taken seriously.

“Iran is different. It’s a zealot country. It is governed by a group that believes in militant Islamic fundamentalism,” he said a few weeks ago to NBC News.
Netanyahu believes the nuclear deal is a “stunning, historic mistake.” The prime minister told American Jewish leaders on Monday that the deal “doesn’t block Iran’s path to the bomb. It actually paves Iran’s path to the bomb,” which is what he also warned in his address before a joint session of Congress in March.
Last month, he listed three reasons why he views the deal as a “stunning, historic mistake.”
It lifts economic sanctions against the rogue regime, allowing hundreds of billions of dollars to flow into Iran.
It keeps Iran’s nuclear infrastructure in place.
It gives Iran 24 days to respond to any inspection of facilities by the U.N.
