Eyeball scanning could become widespread among UK shoppers
British shoppers could soon be using some very personal methods to authorize payments on the high street.
Biometric technology, which uses scans of a person's fingerprint or eyeballs, is gaining increasing popularity amongst consumers looking for a more secure way to shop, new research has found.
A survey by payment experts Visa found that European shoppers are keen to use their personal authentication to ensure they don't fall victim to scammers or criminals.
Such technology would mean it is far less likely that someone's personal details can be stolen to be used to make unauthorised purchases.

The company found that over three quarters of shoppers want to use some kind of biometric scan to autenticate their purchases.
The majority said that they would prefer to use a fingerprint scan to go along with their purchase, with over half of respondents supporting this.
And a significant number said that they would be prepared to use selfies to make payments, with eight per cent of Brits backing this technology.
Voice authentication also proved a popular choice, as 12 per cent of UK shoppers said they would be comfortable using this system.
The news comes as many of the technology industry's biggest names begin to throw their support behind using biometric technology.
Microsoft already includes facial recognition software in Windows 10, as its Windows Hello service allows users to unlock and log in to their devices.
Apple was one of the pioneers of the technology, as its TouchID service allowed customers to unlock their device using a fingerprint scan. This can also be used to authenticate payments made in Apple Pay.
