Jerusalem's High Terror Alert Ends The Jerusalem region is no longer on the highest level of terror alert. However, the country remains at “Level 3.” by Maayana Miskin Published: 22/08/11, 9:07 PM
The Jerusalem region is no longer under immediate terrorist threat, police announced Monday evening. The area had been on the highest possible terrorism alert beginning Sunday, after intelligence sources received warning of an imminent attack.
Details of the affair – including the warning that the sparked the alert, and the cause for the alert's end Monday - remain under gag order.
While the entire region was under alert, police appeared to focus on northern Jerusalem in particular. Checkpoints were set up at entrances to northern Jerusalem neighborhoods Sunday, and the Pisgat Ze'ev mall was evacuated.
Traffic jams were reported throughout the city as police conducted extra inspections. Officers were called in from outside the region to provide backup.
While the specific high alert in Jerusalem has been canceled, the Level 3 (Gimmel) terrorism alert for the entire country remains in effect. The warning level, one level below the highest possible alert, was announced late last week following a series of terrorist attacks near Eilat.
