Hundreds of Egyptians storm building housing Israel's mission; Israel's ambassador evacuates Egypt.
The following is a timeline of the attack on Israel's embassy in Cairo on Friday:
Friday 6:30 p.m. - Egyptian activists begin demolishing a wall built around a building housing the Israeli embassy in Cairo.
12:30 a.m. - Egyptian activists succeed in destroying the wall around the Israeli embassy and set police cars on fire.
Saturday 1:00 a.m. - Demonstrators reach the entrance hall but are not inside the mission itself. Protesters throw "pamphlets and forms kept in the foyer" out of windows in the building.
2:00 a.m. - Statement from Defense Minister Ehud Barak reports that Israel appealed for US help in guarding its Cairo embassy.
2:30 a.m. - Statement from the White House says US President Barack Obama is concerned about the storming of the Israeli embassy and told Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu the United States is taking steps to help resolve the situation without further violence.
2:40 a.m. - The Israeli ambassador to Egypt along with his family and embassy staff arrive at Cairo airport to fly out of the country.
3:15 a.m. - Egyptian Prime Minister Essam Sharaf summons his cabinet crisis team and the Interior Ministry put police on alert and cancel police holidays, according to state media.
