A friend of mine posted this on FB:
"Pep Boys is off my list, forever! Just went there to replace my California Duster. Good news – the previous one lasted about 20 years. Bad news – they asked for my phone number, address and then wanted to see my license to verify it, for a cash transaction! (I gave them a phony name and address.) It’s none of their business. I paid cash for the Duster and that’s it for Pep Boys and their invasion of privacy business plan. Manny, Moe and Jack can kiss my ****."
I hate it when stores ask for my phone number - because you purchased something from them, it means you have a business relationship and they're free to call you, so I give them an old number. (My apologies to whoever now has it....)
When supermarkets ask for my information for their shopper cards, I give them a fake name, address, and phone number. (I rarely shop at any supermarket anyway, apart from Publix, Walmart, and Aldi's, and none of them has cards.)
I was just wondering if this is a new marketing ploy, or what - but checking your driver's license to make sure you've given them the correct info sounds very very suspicious....
