There's only one other board that I participate in, a secular one. Someone started a thread about sampling food in a grocery store, and eventually someone asked about tasting a grape before buying a bunch. That's something I don't think twice about doing; after all, if I'm not happy with food that I buy I return it for a refund, and it's easier to try ONE grape before I take a bunch home only to find it's bad and have to return it. (And in that case, the store is now out the cost of the entire bunch.) In fact, I know that many supermarkets (including Safeway and Publix) don't hesitate to let a customer sample the produce. Of course, I'm talking ONE grape - not eating half the bunch! ;D To my surprise, a lot of women claimed that even taking ONE grape is stealing, and it's wrong. Some said that if you do take one, you should tell the cashier, so she can add 5 or 10 cents to your tab. (Really? 5 or 10 cents for ONE grape?) So - what thoughts do the rest of you have on this? Is taking ONE grape (or cherry) - just to make sure it's good before you buy the bunch/bag - stealing? Here's the thread, if anyone is interested: community.qvc.com/forums/Viewpoints/topic/316182/do-you-taste-foods-in-the-grocery-store-before-you-buy.aspx

It depends on the policy of the individual store. Some stores have signs that say "no sampling"....in that case it is stealing. However, other stores are more lenient and understand that it is a part of service. Unfortunately, this isn't an area where we should be logical or project our own ideology in practice....on private property, you follow the rules of the person that makes them. When in doubt...ask someone.

POH, I would be more worried about eating fruit/veggies that haven't been cleaned first! Who knows what kind of germs/pesticides are on those things! Scary!!! When I buy fruits and veggies, the first thing I do is give them a nice bath. Here is the stuff I use: www.tryfit.com/atHome/aboutFit/FAQs/Great stuff and cheap too. You can buy that in most grocery markets. I get mine at Food Lion. (edited for spelling and other horrendous grammar errors... )

Also, POH, it's a secular board so you have to be careful of what you say...they're probably watching you like a hawk waiting for the least littlest thing that trips you up so they can jump on you of being a hypocritical Christian. I know...my kids do this to me all of the time, drives me nuts.

I don't post in that particular forum; I pretty much stick my group of Shopaholic ladies (most of whom are Christian) and the cooking forums. Since the grapes come in bags, and it's a PITA to have to drive back to the store to return a bad bunch, I don't have a problem with eating one even though it's unwashed. (They are, after all, in bags.) I mean heck, what with all the chemtrails and stuff they put in the water and all the chemicals in foods.....
