Riot Police Clear Out Hamas Agitators at Indiana University (VIDEO)
By David Greyson Apr. 27, 2024 9:00 pm Hamas agitators have infested Universities across America disrupting education and endangering people’s lives. Over 33 people were arrested on Thursday at Indiana University for staging pro-Hamas “protests” at Dunn Meadow. The agitators had tents and other structures, which according to the University, was a violation of the school’s policy. According to the University provost, Dunn Meadow is a place where “expression on all subjects” is permitted. WISHTV 8 reported: BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) — At least 33 people were arrested during a Thursday rally at Indiana University’s Dunn Meadow in support of Palestine, law enforcement agencies tell News 8. The people were arrested for having structures, including tents, at their protest. IU said this violates a university policy and directed News 8 to this link. Dunn Meadow is designated as a gathering spot for “expression on all subjects,” according to a policy listed under the Office of the Provost. “The protest started Thursday morning in Dunn Meadow, a park which happens to be across the street from Chabad House of Bloomington, a resource for Jewish people on the campus,” WISHTV 8 reported. Although the First Amendment to the United States Constitution protects free speech, a gathering that is not peaceful does not fall under its confines. “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” First Amendment to the US Constitution. Watch: Additional footage. Watch: Numerous riots and chaos have been spreading to many college campuses. Cal Poly Humboldt shut down its campus on Friday after pro-Hamas agitators took over the college president’s office. Columbia University, with its Hamas agitators, has become so dangerous that in-person classes were canceled this past Monday. The campus has become very unsafe for Jewish students. This is the current climate of college education. Chaos and calls for violence have replaced learning and critical thinking. link

Arizona State Fraternity Students Tear Down Pro-Palestine Encampment And Boot Out Activists
BY TYLER DURDEN SUNDAY, APR 28, 2024 - 02:35 PM After years of leftist activists disrupting the speech of groups and individuals they disagree with and threatening people with "cancellation" for having the "wrong" opinions, it's hard to find sympathy for them when they finally get a taste of their own medicine. Woke protesters have recently sought to bring back the old Seattle CHAZ model of taking over public property and declaring it their own territory; in this case the territory is college campuses around the US. The problem of western progressives hijacking causes in order to insert their own agendas has been noted by many in the independent media. While some people may be approaching the Gaza protests in good faith, there are many others who are not. Apologists might argue that the goal of a protest is to "disrupt" but there are still laws in place that activists must follow. These include laws that make it illegal to obstruct other citizens from using public property, public roads and public buildings (the insane actions of anti-oil protesters come to mind). Regardless of how you might feel about the Israel/Hamas conflict, the reality is that it has nothing to do with students trying to go to classes at universities across the country, and stopping them from doing so violates their rights. This is something that the Gaza protesters seem to have forgotten; their cause is not the only important matter at hand. If they are merely speaking their minds and engaging in fair discourse then they have every right. Once they start taking over colleges and acting as if they own the place, then there's going to be a problem. It has also been reported that more than half of these activists are not even members of the colleges in question. Various states have handled the matter differently. Texas Governor Greg Abbot received criticism for what some argued were heavy handed tactics when removing protesters from campuses after declaring a no-tolerance policy for "antisemitism." Many conservative commentators suggested that even though they don't like the activists involved, antisemitism is not a valid reason to remove them. In other states police have been mostly de-fanged and can do very little even when protesters block other students from attending classes. However, they may have found a way around this. At Arizona State University fraternity members stepped in and tore down protester encampments while police stayed out of their way. In other words, this is not a case of police interfering with protester activities, this is members of the student body cleaning up their own campus. One has to wonder why campuses are being targeted over a war on the other side of the world that does not directly involve them in any way? If funding of Israel is the issue, then why aren't these protestors on the front lawn of the Biden White House? It only makes sense if the goal is to exploit the Gaza issue in order to get visibility for other agendas. link

University of Texas Suspends Palestine Solidarity Committee After On-Campus Pro-Hamas ProtestsRANDY CLARK 28 Apr 2024 AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Texas at Austin suspended the Palestine Solidarity Committee, a registered student group at the campus and a chapter of the national Students for Justice in Palestine. The move follows several campus protests last week that saw nearly 60 people arrested for criminal trespass. The arrests occurred on Wednesday after law enforcement orders to disperse and leave the central tower area of the campus were ignored. On Friday, after receiving formal notification from the university that the organization was being suspended, the group posted a message on Facebook encouraging supporters to contact the administration and demand reinstatement. In the lengthy Facebook posting, the group appears to deliberately leave the “I” in Israel in lowercase while writing the “P” in Palestine in uppercase. The message reads: UT’s suspension of the Palestine Solidarity Committee is an attack on free speech to distract from and enable israel’s genocidal campaign against the Palestinian people! While Jay Hartzell and Greg Abbot authorized Texas State Troopers, Austin Police, and UT police to violently attack and arrest protesters on campus, Palestinians continue to live in a state of emergency that UT refuses to recognize. Now, as the number of Palestinians killed by israel has surpassed 34,000, the university has repeatedly changed protest policies and been deliberately vague about these changes, and committed to violently dispersing protests in their campaign of intimidation and brutalization of our student body. This demonstrates UT’s selective censorship of pro-Palestinian student organizations as an attempt to prevent protest against israel’s increasingly brutal attacks. We recognize UT’s intimidation tactics for what they are: our suspension is the latest instance of a pattern of censorship. UT’s repression of our free speech reinforces a racist narrative that devalues Palestinian life. As students of diverse backgrounds across the country rise up to defend Palestinian lives, campus administrations like ours are trying to silence our voices. But we will not be silent. As israel continues to bomb hospitals, schools, homes and refugee camps while cutting off food and water to more than 2 million Palestinians in Gaza, it is imperative that we act, and with urgency. Palestinian lives are at stake. The united front of UT’s Palestine Solidarity Committee and our allies unequivocally calls for a ceasefire now, and will continue to call on UT to divest from israeli apartheid. Breitbart Texas attended the rally on Thursday on the eve of the suspension. This reporter observed the walk-out and protest organized by the Palestine Solidarity Committee on Thursday afternoon near the campus’ central mall near the University of Texas Tower. Many within the group of approximately 300 demonstrators waved Palestinian flags and wore the Arab keffiyeh, some carrying signs that read “Free Palestine” as they moved about the mall. More than 100 others staged on the grassy area near the tower, posting signs on the George Washington statue that read “Support YOUR Community, No Cops.” The pro-Palestine protesters refused to speak to Breitbart Texas on camera or to identify themselves when asked questions about the purpose of the protest. Some of the few who would speak at all expressed displeasure concerning the arrests made during Wednesday’s protest. The pro-Israel counter-protesters were much more forthcoming and described what they experienced during Wednesday’s rally. Oceane Maher, a young lady supporting the Jewish students on campus, carried a sign that read, “Protesters threatened to kill us, stole our signs, told us to go back to Germany, chanted all of Palestine is Arab, called for an intifada.” Maher told Breitbart Texas this is what she experienced firsthand on Wednesday but said the police response improved the situation on Thursday. Several other pro-Israel students carried Israeli flags and walked among the crowd. They met with some less than friendly looks and in one case a middle finger wave from the pro-Palestine protesters. The interaction did not get physical. Jewish student carries a sign explaining what happened on the first day of the pro-Palestine protest at the University of Texas. (Randy Clark/Breitbart Texas) As reported by Breitbart Texas, Seth Greenwald, a Jewish University of Texas law student, said he was spat on twice on the first day of the pro-Palestine rally. Greenwald also acknowledged the police response contributed to a much calmer environment on Thursday. As reported by Breitbart Texas, multiple arrests were made after the pro-Palestine protesters refused to disperse after attempting to occupy portions of the campus, similar to the Colombia University earlier in the week. Randy Clark / Breitbart Texas University of Texas President Jay Hartzell issued a statement on Thursday addressing the move to cancel Wednesday’s protest, citing events at other universities nationwide. His message read: Yesterday was clearly a rough, divisive day for our campus. As the push to disrupt top universities spreads across the country, many campuses such as ours are facing similarly difficult challenges. We are all wrestling with how to juggle broad, important goals, including student safety, continuity and excellence in teaching and research, and the right to express one’s views and call for change. I imagine that virtually all of us support each of those goals, even though we might disagree to some extent about how to weigh them in a particular situation. The University’s decision to not allow yesterday’s event to go as planned was made because we had credible indications that the event’s organizers, whether national or local, were trying to follow the pattern we see elsewhere, using the apparatus of free speech and expression to severely disrupt a campus for a long period.” By early Thursday, most of the nearly arrested for criminal trespassing at the campus during Wednesday’s protest were released from Travis County Jail. Most of the criminal cases were dismissed by Travis County Attorney Delia Garza, who raised issues about the probable cause of arrest by law enforcement officers. In a statement released on Thursday, Garza stated: The Travis County Attorney’s Office received several cases yesterday and throughout the evening as a result of yesterday’s demonstration at the University of Texas. Legal concerns were raised by defense counsel. We individually reviewed each case that was presented and agreed there were deficiencies in the probable cause affidavits. The Court affirmed and ordered the release of those individuals. We will continue to individually review all cases presented to our office to determine whether prosecution is factually and legally appropriate. link

Protesters Remove American Flag, Raise Palestinian Flag in Harvard YardJOEL B. POLLAK 28 Apr 2024 Protesters at an anti-Israel “encampment” in Harvard Yard removed an American flag from University Hall, the central administration building, and flew a Palestinian flag in its place Saturday before university staff intervened. The Harvard Crimson reported: Pro-Palestine student protesters at the Harvard Yard encampment flew three Palestinian flags from University Hall on Saturday evening. A group of three protesters hoisted the flags over the John Harvard statue in the Yard, where the University sometimes flies the American flag or flags of the countries of visiting foreign dignitaries. As of 6:34 p.m., Harvard University Police officers were calling Harvard Yard Operations to remove the flag. As the staff removed the flags, protesters yelled “Shame!” and chanted “Free, free Palestine” and “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.” “From the river to the sea” is considered by many critics to be an antisemitic chant, since it implies the destruction of Israel and the removal or murder of its Jewish inhabitants. Ironically, it was a pro-Israel, Jewish professor, Alan Dershowitz, who once advocated for Palestinian students to have the right to fly the Palestinian flag on campus — with permission — despite the fact that Palestine is not a state. As Dershowitz recalled in 2007: I, and many other genuine civil libertarians, have long histories of defending the free speech rights of those we most despise. I supported the right of Nazis to march in Skokie, Ill forty years ago. I opposed the cancellation of a speech by Tom Paulin, who advocated the murder of Israelis. I defended, pro bono, a virulently anti-Israel Stanford professor who was fired for inciting violence. I opposed Harvard’s attempt to prevent students from flying the Palestinian flag to commemorate the death of mass-murderer Yasser Arafat. Don’t expect the defense of those with whom they disagree from the Israel-bashers at Columbia, Harvard, and MIT. For them, it is “free speech for me, but not for thee!” Many pro-Palestinian “encampments” — at Harvard, Yale, Columbia, UCLA, and elsewhere — have used starkly anti-American imagery, including the removal of the American flag and the condemnation of the United States. link

Rioting Pro-Hamas Students Tear Down Barricades at George Washington University Just Blocks From White House; Palestinian Flag and Keffiyeh Draped on Statue of Nation’s First President
By Kristinn Taylor Apr. 29, 2024 2:30 am Pro-Hamas students, angered by an attempted arrest of a protester by police, rioted at George Washington University overnight, located a few blocks west of the White House in Washington, D.C. The students tore down barricades that had blocked off an earlier attempted ‘occupy’ protest on campus grounds at University Yard (U-Yard). The students retook U-Yard, erecting tents and planting Palestinian flags on the pile of barricades. A Palestinian flag and keffiyeh draped on a statue of our nation’s first President George Washington at the start of the protest several days ago were still desecrating America’s founding father. The protest is part of an attempt to foment communist revolution in the U.S., using college campuses as a focal point, with an alliance of terrorist supporting communists and Islamists. GWU had cleared the ‘occupy’ protest at U-Yard several days ago and was allowing only about twenty protesters to remain. The D.C. government refused to help, reportedly fearing bad optics. D.C. allowed the protesters to take over a city street in front of the campus area for the weekend. Like magic, dozens of tents looking just the ones at other campus protests sprung up on H Street. Before the riot, GWU had sent out a statement to alumni Sunday night explaining their handling of the protest: Late Sunday night, campus police officers were prevented by the protesters from arresting one of the activists. A riot ensued where the barricades were torn down. Video of the H Street weekend encampment before the riot, “Outside groups are providing all kinds of help to radical students”: Video of the “de-arrest” that set off the riot: Photos and videos of the torn down barricades. Heavy use of chanting to foment revolution on campus: “Say it loud and say it clear, liberation is near!” “From U-Yard to Palestine, globalize the intifada!” “I believe that we will win!” The student newspaper GW Hatchet is posting live reports: Action by police is expected in the morning–or not. Until then, “Who’s not leaving? We’re not leaving!” link

Counter-Protesters Show Up at UCLA Encampment with Bananas - The Reason Why Is Hilarious
By Anthony Altomari April 29, 2024 at 3:13pm Pro-Palestinian protesters have turned their attention toward a new enemy: bananas. As a result, pro-Israel protesters switched up their tactics in combating pro-Palestinian protesters at UCLA by eating and waving bananas during a counter-protest on Friday, according to UCLA’s Daily Bruin. The Daily Bruin reported that hundreds of pro-Palestine students formed an encampment at UCLA’s Dickinson Plaza on Thursday “to call for the UC to divest from companies associated with the Israeli military and cut ties with LAPD in addition to a ceasefire in Israel’s destruction of the Gaza Strip.” Because many students are not leaving the encampment as part of the protests, the Daily Bruin said that the encampment has enlisted the help of students, faculty, alumni and outside organizations to provide food for the protesters. Apparently, word got out that one of the protesters in the encampment had a “severe banana allergy.” Upon obtaining this information, Pro-Israel counter-protesters were seen waving bananas in the air near the encampment on Friday. One student was filmed eating a banana while draped in an Israeli flag. “There was a protestor in the liberated zone at @ucla with a potentially fatal banana allergy. Counterprotestors invaded the encampment and saw all the no bananas warnings. The next day they came back waving bananas like settlers waving machine guns & smeared bananas everywhere,” the post caption read. “Agitators were threatening to sexually assault a student with a banana after hearing that there’s a deadly banana allergy in the encampment,” Vincent Doehr, a third-year political science doctoral student, told the Daily Bruin. “The Zionists were told of this by the security and then waved bananas at us.” It’s unclear if the pro-Israel protesters were actually seeking out the protester with the banana allergy or were merely trying to be comical. Newsweek reported, this incident was just one of several that occurred between Israeli and Palestinian supporters over the weekend on UCLA’s campus, as part of a nationwide increase of pro-Israel counter-protests on college campuses. While the actions of the pro-Israel, banana wielding protesters may not have been proper, this just goes to show how pro-Palestinian protesters look for excuses to become the victim. To say that waving bananas is the equivalent of waving machine guns is a hyperbolic jump that does nothing to help people take the pro-Palestinian cause seriously. Related: Bill Maher Mocks Don Lemon to His Face for Trying to Play the Race Card: 'C'mon' In fact, when pro-Palestine protesters are arguing that it is OK for them to call for the death of Jews and the destruction of the Jewish state, but are calling pro-Israel supporters evil for waving a few bananas, it makes them look weak. If you want to dish out highly inflammatory rhetoric and expressive conduct, you have to be willing to take it. You can’t cry foul when someone plays the game by your rules. But it’s almost impossible to have a reasonable discussion with people who try to play victim at every moment. Pro-Palestinian protesters have already brought ire to their cause, chanting and protesting about issues they don’t fully understand. Now, instead of going to their college classes, they’ve decided it would be more prudent to create an encampment on their school campus and essentially yell until they get what they want. How they believe this will translate into support for their cause is difficult to wrap your head around. link We here at The Western Journal are committed to covering it in a way the establishment media simply will not: We will tell the truth, and they will lie.

Disturbing Discovery Made After Arrest of Pro-Palestinian Protesters: What Were These People Doing on Campus?
By Warner Todd Huston April 29, 2024 at 12:12pm After pro-Palestinian protesters hit the University of Texas on Wednesday, school President Jay Hartzell made an astonishing announcement that threw the whole “protest” into doubt and undermined the claim it was a student-led event. Austin police waded into the unauthorized protest on the campus of the university on April 24 to break it all up and eventually arrested about 60, KTBC-TV in Austin reported. University of Texas police issued a dispersal order at about 5:30 p.m. directing everyone to leave the South Mall area where the protest was centered. Officers promptly began pushing the groups out of the area and making arrests. Protesters were arrested on charges including criminal trespassing and booked at the Travis County Jail, the TV station added. While the whole situation was bad enough, it got even worse with the information released by Hartzell. The day after the protests, Hartzell posted a message condemning the protesters. “Yesterday was clearly a rough, divisive day for our campus. As the push to disrupt top universities spreads across the country, many campuses such as ours are facing similarly difficult challenges. We are all wrestling with how to juggle broad, important goals, including student safety, continuity and excellence in teaching and research, and the right to express one’s views and call for change,” he wrote on the university’s website. He went on to explain why the school decided to shut the protests down. “The University’s decision to not allow yesterday’s event to go as planned was made because we had credible indications that the event’s organizers, whether national or local, were trying to follow the pattern we see elsewhere, using the apparatus of free speech and expression to severely disrupt a campus for a long period,” Hartzell wrote. He added that the protests at UT were “modeled after a national organization’s protest playbook,” featuring the “problematic aspects” of that effort for extreme disruption as opposed to mounting an event where they merely wished to be heard. But then he added the most disturbing part of what the university discovered about the protests. “And notably,” he wrote, “26 of the 55 individuals arrested yesterday had no UT affiliation.” Related: Counter-Protesters Show Up at UCLA Encampment with Bananas - The Reason Why Is Hilarious That was just those arrested, too. The big question is, how many more of these outside agitators were on hand to disrupt the school. Clearly, a large number of the “protesters” were not there simply for “the cause” but were, instead, there to cause serious trouble. The University of Texas is far from unusual in this particular aspect of these disruptive, hate-filled, and dangerous protests. Following the money trail shows that millions of dollars from outside forces — including George Soros-funded organizations — are being funneled into these so-called “student groups.” Worse, in some cases, the students involved in these “protests” really don’t care about the poor in Gaza at all. One student who spoke at an anti-Israel rally at Georgetown University admitted that the protests were really about a “revolution” in the United States so they could remake the U.S. into a socialist country. It seems obvious that these pro-Hamas protests on our college campuses are far from spontaneous, student-led events. They are attacks on Jews and Americans funded by America’s enemies. link

Anti-Israel Protesters Defy Order to Clear Encampment: ‘Columbia Will Burn’ELIZABETH WEIBEL 29 Apr 2024 Anti-Israel protesters participating in an encampment at Columbia University defied an order from administration officials to clear out, threatening to “burn” the university. Columbia University gave protesters an ultimatum of Monday at 2:00 p.m. to gather their belongings and “leave the encampment,” according to photos of a paper from the university posted to the Instagram account of Aidan Parisi, a suspended student of the university. Over the letter from the university were the words, “Columbia will burn,” and “I ain’t reading all that. Free Palestine,” in red ink. “The current unauthorized encampment and disruption on Columbia University’s campus is creating an unwelcoming environment for members of our community,” the letter from Columbia University read. “External actors have also contributed to this environment, especially around our gates, causing safety concerns — including for our neighbors.” The letter continues to add that “exams are beginning,” and several students are preparing to graduate: These are among the most significant aspects of students’ academic programs. Many of this year’s graduates were deprived of a graduation celebration from high school because of the pandemic. For many of their families, this will be the first time anyone in their family has completed college and received a degree. Protesters were informed in the letter that the encampment violated many university policies relating to vandalism and damage to property, unauthorized access, failure to comply, and the Rules of University Code of Conduct, among others. Anti-Israel protesters at Columbia University could also be heard chanting, “Brick by brick, wall by wall, Israel will fall,” according to video footage posted to X. Anti-Israel protests and encampments have popped up on several college and university campuses in April. An initial encampment was established at Columbia University. Since then, anti-Israel encampments have been established at Northwestern University, Harvard University, George Washington University, the University of California Los Angeles, and the University of Pennsylvania. Columbia University Begins Suspending Students After Asking Protesters to Leave EncampmentELIZABETH WEIBEL 29 Apr 2024 Columbia University has reportedly started suspending students involved in an anti-Israel encampment established on the campus grounds. Vice President of Public Affairs Ben Chang revealed in a statement that the university had started the process of suspending students after giving them a 2:00 p.m. deadline to vacate the encampment. “We have begun suspending students as part of this next phase of our efforts to ensure safety on our campus,” Chang said in the statement. In his statement, Chang revealed that suspended students will no longer be eligible to finish the semester or graduate. Earlier in the day, Columbia University had distributed a letter to anti-Israel protesters taking part in the encampment informing them of a 2:00 p.m. deadline by which to “gather” their belongings and “leave the encampment.” The letter explained that the encampment had created an “unwelcoming environment for members” of the community and adds that students are starting exams and preparing to graduate. Over the top of the letter, the words, “Columbia will burn,” and, “I ain’t reading all that. Free Palestine,” were written in red ink. Over the past week and a half, since an initial anti-Israel encampment was established at Columbia University, several others have been established at Yale University, George Washington University, Princeton University, Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the University of California Los Angeles. Antisemitic incidents have skyrocketed in the United States since Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attack on Israel which left 1,200 people dead and over 200 people taken as hostages. Breitbart News reached out to Columbia University for a statement but did not receive a response by the time of publication. link

Anti-Israel Encampment Established at Rutgers University
ELIZABETH WEIBEL 29 Apr 2024 An anti-Israel encampment was established on the lawn of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, on Monday. The Students for Justice in Palestine chapter of Rutgers University in New Brunswick (SJP Rutgers-NB) announced in a post on X that the encampment had “started” on Monday and was there to stay until “divestment.” “ENCAMPMENT AT RUTGERS HAS STARTED!” the group wrote. “SHOW UP. HERE TILL DIVESTMENT.” Several signs seen on tents in the encampment stated, “Free Palestine. Divest Now,” “F**k colonialism,” and “Globalize the Intifada.” “We will not leave Voorhees Mall the same way Palestinians in Gaza refuse to leave their homes until our demands are met,” SJP Rutgers-NB said in a statement, according to NorthJersey.com. The anti-Israel encampment comes as other encampments and protests have sprouted up on college and university campuses throughout the United States. An initial encampment was established on Columbia University’s campus on April 17. The next day, several students were suspended and arrested for their involvement. Columbia University had removed the encampment, but since then, it has returned. (AP Photo/Andres Kudacki) Since the start of the anti-Israel encampment at Columbia University, others have been established at Harvard University, George Washington University, Yale University, the University of California Los Angeles, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Rutgers University President Jonathan Holloway issued a statement acknowledging that “students want to make a difference,” according to the outlet. In his statement, Holloway said: Our students want to make a difference in a struggle that has cost far too many innocent lives and that threatens so many more. I respect their right to protest in ways that do not interfere with university operations or with the ability of their fellow students to learn. SJP Rutgers-NB revealed in a post on Instagram that undergraduate students at Rutgers locations in New Brunswick, Camden, and Newark had allegedly voted in large margins in favor of Rutgers University and the state of New Jersey to divest “its endowment fund from companies that profit, engage in, or contribute to the government of Israel’s human rights violations.” Protesters in the encampments have issued various demands to universities, such as asking for divestment from Israeli companies, ending academic ties with Israeli universities, and full amnesty for the protesters who have been suspended or arrested over involvement in the anti-Israel encampments. link

Violent Protests Erupt at Virginia Commonwealth University: Air-Raid Sirens Sound, Riot Police Deployed, and Shelter-in-Place Order Issued (VIDEO)
By Jim Hᴏft Apr. 29, 2024 10:00 pm Virginia Commonwealth University has become the latest epicenter of violent protests, as pro-Hamas supporters occupied parts of the campus, leading to a tense standoff with riot police. Authorities issued a shelter-in-place order for all students. The confrontation began Monday morning when a group of student protesters established what they called a “Liberation Zone” outside the James Branch Cabell Library on VCU’s Monroe Park campus. The group displayed Palestinian flags and chanted “Free Palestine,” demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and calling for VCU to sever all financial ties with Israel. As the day progressed, tents were erected, and protesters fortified their position by forming a barrier around the zone. As the day progressed, the situation intensified with pro-Hamas supporters occupying the library and courtyard. Police responded by deploying tear gas and pepper spray after protesters hurled objects at officers. Social media posts showed tense standoffs between law enforcement and demonstrators, with the latter demanding that VCU disclose and divest any financial ties to Israel and protect pro-Palestinian speech on campus. WATCH: All students at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond are instructed to shelter-in-place due to police action against the pro-Hamas rioters. RTD News reporter Samuel B. Parker provided live updates from the scene. The evening saw the police making multiple arrests and a trash truck arriving to clear the makeshift encampments. Despite the police’s efforts to disperse the crowd, chants continued, and the number of demonstrators reportedly grew. “Officers have moved into position and disassembled the makeshift barricade. Pepper spray has been deployed and protesters threw bottles and other projectiles at officers.” link

I need as much footage of this from different angles. Dawn is a registered member of the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation and an unaffiliated descendant of the Sicangu Lakota Nation. She is also a descendant of Jews who moved to the US from Russia in the early 20th Century. “I was quickly surrounded by a mob @ucla students and EVEN @ucla faculty as a form of intimidation. Where I continued to maintain my peaceful presence & protest. The violence on American campuses is UNACCEPTABLE. The lack of police intervention is UNACCEPTABLE. NON-indigenous people TARGETING and ATTACKING an Indigenous woman while you claim to be supporting an ‘indigenous liberation movement’ is UNACCEPTABLE,” wrote Dawn. During the protest, Dawn spoke with, Sal Yazhi Lozano, a Native American man who was demonstrating alongside pro-Palestinian protesters. “Shortly after I was attacked, we noticed each other and reached across the human barrier of ‘Free Palestine’ protesters to introduce ourselves with respect and simply honor each other’s presence, wrote Dawn. “Instantly, ‘Free Palestine’ protestors started telling us we were not allowed to speak to each other! They even told us we need to leave the premises if we weren’t going to obey the rules.” “The violence is not welcome on Native land,” Dawn wrote. “ These illegal encampments are not welcome on Native land. Hamas supporters are not welcome on Native land. FREE PALESTINE FROM HAMAS.” “READ THAT AGAIN. Several non-indigenous ‘Free Palestine’ protestors told two NATIVE AMERICAN people that we were NOT ALLOWED on the premises of their ILLEGAL encampment if we aren’t going to obey THEIR rules. And they call themselves an ‘indigenous liberation movement’?” added Dawn. “As hosts and original stewards of the land of America, we have the honor to welcome those whose moccasins come to walk softly on the earth,” Dawn wrote. “We also hold a solemn responsibility to stand against those who bring violence, chaos, and bad intentions.” Lozano also spoke about the incident on Instagram, posting that “Two Indigenous people supporting two different cultures today set an example while everyone else dared to say we couldn’t speak to each other nor shake hands because she was on the Jewish side and not on Palestinians side with us. That triggered us, and this indigenous woman spoke up and stood her ground on indigenous land. She was even beaten by Palestinian men.” Lozano stressed that he did not support the protestors’ actions and would “not allow nor tolerate any of that, especially on our women or lands.” “How dare they tell us on our lands we can (sic) talk to each other. Don’t get it twisted…YOU ARE ON INDIGENOUS LAND!!!” added Lozano. Indeed, UCLA acknowledges that it was built on ancestral land appropriated from the Gabrielino Tongva tribe. Lozano appears to have had a change of heart. Recent posts to his Instagram account show support for Jewish claims to indigeneity and a chant in front of a sign reading, “Native men believe Israeli women.” Dr. Laralyn RiverWind, Co-Founderof FireKeepers International and Ambassador for the Georgia Tribe of Eastern Cherokee, responded to the incident. “I publicly honor the Native Americans who took a stand against Hamas supporters at UCLA,” Dr. Riverwind tp;d Israel365 News. “You stood against those who condone and justify murder, rape, and rage – actions for which there are never any justifications. These are not the ways of our people.” “For thousands of years, aggressive Muslim groups have violently colonized many countries across the world. Those with the eye of an eagle can see the plans they have for this nation and land. My hope is that your tribes honor you each with an eagle feather for your bravery and ability to think clearly.” “Wish I could have joined you!” she added. link

NYPD Declares Columbia University Protest a Riot — Crackdown Begins, Dozens Arrested
By Jim Hᴏft Apr. 30, 2024 8:40 pm A demonstration by pro-Hamas supporters at Columbia University turned violent on Tuesday after Columbia University authorized the city to deploy officers onto the campus amid escalating tensions. As the situation intensified, the university administration issued a “shelter in place” directive to students, citing “heightened activity on the Morningside campus.” The alert advised students to remain indoors for their safety, warning that failure to comply could lead to disciplinary actions. The NYPD issued a directive to all non-essential personnel, including students not involved in the protests, to vacate the campus area. “The operation at Columbia University has commenced,” announced an NYPD spokesperson. “All credentialed media members are to meet with DCPI personnel at West 114th Street and Broadway. Anyone remaining in the area without authorization will be escorted from the premises.” According to WKCR radio, NYPD officers used tear gas on pro-Hamas protesters at Columbia University. Watch the videos below: FOX News reported that Columbia University’s student radio has reported that the NYPD’s Emergency Services Unit is entering Hamilton Hall through the windows using a BearCat vehicle. The building has been occupied by anti-Israel demonstrators since early Tuesday morning, with officers now accessing the second floor via these unconventional entry points. link

Famous Pastor’s Grandson Stares Down Columbia Mob, Refuses to Let Them Continue Their Mission of Destruction
By Laura Wellington, The Western Journal Apr. 30, 2024 7:40 pm What do conservative Americans see in viewing the protests on college campuses currently? As one of them, I see the look of ignorance and failure. I also see the real possibility that, one day soon, one of these protests will result in lives lost. You can’t view the escalation of intensity without smelling the scent of growing violence in the air. Nor can you watch the following video shared on X by N.D. Wilson, whose son and his friend held the door against an angry mob made up of pro-Hamas students, and not fear for the safety of the two young men. The two locked arms to help protect Jewish students who were trying to protect Hamilton Hall. Wilson stated, “Proud of my son for holding the door as long as he did, and of his friend whom the mob peeled off. Infuriated at #NYPD and @columbia campus security who ignored his calls about vandalism and assault.” That boy is also the grandson of Pastor Doug Wilson, who leads Christ Church in Moscow, Idaho. If you recall, Pastor Wilson recently appeared on “The Tucker Carlson Encounter” to discuss the attack on Christianity by the left. The example he has set obviously translated well to his grandson. N.D. Wilson shared further about the his son’s and his friends’ moxy, “Another part of my son’s evening, trying to stop a psycho building takeover. Protestors got onto campus by climbing through dorm windows and then set their sights on taking over this building. My son and his friend are students. Most of the mob did not appear to be.” WARNING: The following video contains vulgar language some readers may find offensive. What is striking in the video but hardly surprising is the lack of how long these boys had to endure being at the center of this threatening situation. Columbia University is allowing these protests to continue, and when the house comes crashing down, they will be responsible as a party to these non-peaceful protests. Neither boy should have had to navigate this moment without the help of staff or authorities. As of today, Columbia continues to pacify these pro-Hamas students, unlike many others who have cleared the encampments that have called for the annihilation of Israel. According to NBC News, the students are going to great lengths to intimidate and destroy. It is insanity, for their ignorance is fanning the flame that seems to have nothing to do with the situation of origin and everything to do with mob mentality. As Biden encouraged Hamas to agree to his latest ceasefire proposal offered up Monday, he couldn’t send a weaker message to pro-Hamas advocates across college campuses. According to USA Today, the U.S. worked with Egypt and Qatar to broker that deal between Israel and Hamas. And although it would “reportedly involve a six-week cease-fire in exchange for the release of 40 militant-held hostages and hundreds of Palestinian prisoners,” it would also establish precedent to negotiate with terrorists. That is like lighting a match underneath these pro-Hamas protesters to do whatever they want to get their way. That could very well be the impetus to getting several Jewish students, or any other students standing in the way like this Wilson boy, killed. Just as the anti-Israel mob was enraged that someone was standing in their way at Columbia University, so is Hamas with Gaza, Israel, and the Jewish people. A temporary ceasefire, if agreed to, will only allow Hamas to regroup and hit back harder while guards are down. Plus, as former President Trump said, per the Washington Times, “The terrorist organization cannot be trusted to return hostages, who he said are likely dead.” It doesn’t matter how generous the deal is Biden places in front of them. That actually just makes everything worse. A note needs to be taken from Pastor Wilson’s grandson and his friend. Both weren’t only extremely brave, but they demonstrated what should be done when terrorists descend. Stand tall and don’t waiver in what is right. He obviously is well-versed in history, with a stellar example in Jesus Christ. Look how quickly the protests at University of Texas-Austin came and went. The leadership of the state translated all the way onto that campus — just as it did at the University of Florida. Before you knew it, it was over. That is how it is done. It isn’t being generous. It is being quick, decisive, and resolute. The ignorance and failure running around on these campuses reflects that which is coming from the top. And the act of appeasing Hamas will result in many more getting killed, including students. It’s coming. link

Anti-Israel Protester Complains About Columbia NYPD Raid: ‘It’s Finals. Can I Go Home?’
ELIZABETH WEIBEL 30 Apr 2024 An anti-Israel protester, who was part of a group that took over a building on the campus of Columbia University, complained about a police raid and asked to “go home.” Students who had taken part in an anti-Israel encampment seized control of Hamilton Hall on Tuesday morning and could be heard complaining that NYPD officers would not allow them to leave when the academic building was raided by police that evening. Anti-Israel protesters carried barricades into the building, smashed the glass doors of the building, and hung pro-Palestinian banners from the windows. “They just barricaded us in,” one protester could be heard saying. Another could be heard responding, “Oh my **** God. No f***ing way. F**k you, it’s finals. Can I go home?” Columbia University issued a statement after multiple reports and videos showed NYPD officers in riot gear executing a raid on the university. In its statement, the university said NYPD officers “arrived on campus” a little after 9:00 p.m. and that the university was “left with no choice”: We regret that protesters have chosen to escalate the situation through their actions. After the University learned overnight that Hamilton Hall had been occupied, vandalized, and blockaded, we were left with no choice. Columbia public safety personnel were forced out of the building, and a member of our facilities team was threatened. We will not risk the safety of our community or the potential for further escalation. Prior to the anti-Israel protesters taking control of the building, Columbia University had given students involved in the encampment a deadline of 2:00 p.m. on Monday of which to leave. An initial anti-Israel encampment was established at Columbia University on April 17. The following day, several students were suspended and hundreds of protesters involved in the encampment were arrested. While Columbia University was able to remove the initial anti-Israel encampment, another one popped up in its place. link

Columbia Protest Rep Demands Refreshments for Violent Activists Occupying Building; ‘Humanitarian Aid’
JOEL B. POLLAK 30 Apr 2024 A spokesperson for the pro-Palestinian activists who broke into Hamilton Hall at Columbia University early Tuesday morning demanded that the university allow food and drink to be delivered to the building. Much like the Hamas terrorists the protesters support, who attacked Israel on October 7 and then demanded that Israel provide them with food and fuel, the student leader said that the activists were entitled to “humanitarian aid.” The spokesperson was identified by other outlets as Johanna King-Slutzky. King-Slutzky, a graduate student and left-wing political activist, cited the fact that students (or their parents) had paid for Columbia’s meal plan as a reason to make sure they were fed while illegally occupying campus property by force. She also claimed that denying food and drink to the pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel, and antisemitic protesters would mean effectively sentencing them to die from dehydration or starvation. Students occupying property at several elite universities, such as UCLA, have been allowed to bring in food and drink, and to use on-campus bathrooms. The Columbia students, however, appear to have worn out their welcome after Tuesday morning’s violent Hamilton raid. Just hours after King-Slutzky issued her demand for refreshments, the New York Police Department (NYPD) removed the activists from Hamilton Hall at the invitation of the university. Previously, the university had pledged not to use the NYPD again, as it had done when removing a pro-Palestinian encampment earlier in the month. However, after negotiations with the activists broke down, and they invaded Hamilton Hall, there was little choice. link

Hundreds of Anti-Israel Protesters Flood Penn Station for Train to Columbia UniversityELIZABETH WEIBEL 30 Apr 2024 Hundreds of anti-Israel protesters were captured on video flooding up the stairs of Moynihan Train Hall at Penn Station in New York to take the train to Columbia University on Tuesday. As protesters were videotaped making their way up the stairs to the train station, they could be heard chanting, “Free, free, Palestine,” as some were seen holding Palestinian flags and banners. Once inside, protesters reportedly “marched and stood for the uptown A train in swarms,” the New York Post reported. Protesters involved in the march going through Penn Station to Columbia University reportedly stopped at New York University, The New School, and the Fashion Institute of Technology earlier in the day. Between 50 and 100 anti-Israel protesters were reportedly able to squish onto the crowded train. Once on the train protesters chanted, “Uptown A train you will see. Palestine is almost free.” Earlier in the day, Columbia University restricted access to its campus for the remainder of the semester in response to anti-Israel protesters seizing control of Hamilton Hall, an academic building on campus, in the early morning hours of Tuesday. China Supports Pro-Palestine Protests on US Campuses
By Antonio Graceffo Apr. 30, 2024 4:00 pm Xinhua, Chinese state media, ran the headline, “U.S. police brutality against student protesters exposes hypocrisy on free speech.” The article begins with, “As the world watches in horror at the footage of U.S. police viciously suppressing student protests.” Chinese state media is providing daily coverage of the protests, painting the US as authoritarian and the police as evil. Many of the articles have the number of arrests in the title, such as “Over 100 arrested at UT-Austin amid pro-Palestinian protest.” In light of the fact that there are no First Amendment freedoms in China, it is ironic that Beijing is outraged that “Peaceful student demonstrators were framed by armed police and U.S. media as ‘perpetrators’ deserving ‘crackdown.’” Peaceful student demonstrators would be quickly subdued and shipped off to camps in China or killed, as happened at Tiananmen Square. China was publishing these articles while Secretary of State Antony Blinken was in Beijing, but he raised no objection. Even US politicians and business leaders are succumbing to China’s will, either wittingly or unwittingly. This all has the feel of the US-USSR Cold War and the Vietnam era when liberals were protesting in favor of the Vietcong and the Khmer Rouge. The difference was that during the Vietnam War, the government was largely in favor of America. The blocs of the new Cold War are China-Russia-Iran vs. the US and the West. However, in addition to proxy armies like Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis, Beijing is weakening our country from within. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) subsidizes the companies making fentanyl precursor chemicals and exporting them to Mexican drug cartels. By doing so, the PRC is killing 150 Americans a day, physically destroying the nation. China is also using media campaigns, disinformation, online campaigns, and indoctrination to undermine the West from the inside. Amplifying liberal narratives about drug legalization or decriminalization, China is able to convince Americans that drugs and overdoses are normal. The liberal solution of handing out free Narcan is a good example of reducing deaths while failing to address the fact that a large swath of the population is destroying themselves slowly. The climate agenda is another narrative Beijing encourages the left to push. China is happy to see Europe and the US adopt green restrictions, which make their products more expensive, while China, the world’s largest consumer of coal, continues to increase emissions year on year, so they can undercut the world’s exports. An added bonus is that by getting the rest of the world to stop using coal, China gets coal at a discount. Additionally, China manufactures solar panels and EV batteries, which are too polluting to produce in Europe. So, by pushing the climate agenda, China makes a market for their own exports. Beijing follows around behind Washington, playing the role of “the friend of the friendless.” After the US pulled out of Afghanistan, Beijing accepted the credentials of the Taliban’s ambassador. Afghanistan is sitting on about a trillion dollars’ worth of rare earth minerals, and China is likely to be the country that gets to extract them. By supporting Iran, which in turn supports the Houthis, China is disrupting global shipping. Coincidentally, the Houthis have agreed not to attack Russian and Chinese ships. Global shipping is getting more expensive, while China’s shipping remains cheap. Blocs are forming globally, and at the same time, a fifth column is growing within Europe, Canada, and the US among the liberal left. The pro-Palestine protester, woke mobs, and leftist outrage are all promoted and amplified through social media accounts tied to Beijing and Moscow to incite discontent and division. Among all of the many ironies is the concept of Queers for Palestine, given that homosexuality is outlawed in many Muslim-majority countries and may even be punished with the death penalty. The fact that China and Russia are posing as friends to the Muslim world, despite Putin’s two wars in Chechnya and crackdowns in Dagestan, as well as the USSR’s invasion of Afghanistan, and don’t forget China’s genocide of the Uyghurs in Xinjiang. Another irony is that the same liberal women who believe they have the right to kill a baby because “my body, my rules” are protesting in favor of a system where they would have no rights at all. Additionally, Muslims are also against abortion, which is illegal in many Muslim countries. Even the way that many of the female protesters are dressed, or the fact that they are outside without a male member of their family, would land them in sharia jail in some Muslim countries. And of course, protesting against the government would be prohibited in those countries as well. China didn’t mastermind every strife and debate in America; however, Beijing is watching closely. It utilizes social media and other forms of influence to latch onto, promote, or amplify those issues that work best for the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). As for the Middle East, Beijing has normalized relations with the PLO. They are poised to recognize whatever government emerges in Gaza, and at this point, it suits Beijing to align with Iran and just have Israel and the US out of the way. By undermining the US, weakening our people and our unity, by encouraging us to fight amongst ourselves, Beijing is getting the heavy lifting out of the way before the shooting starts. But if the propaganda campaigns are successful, and it certainly seems that they will be, indoctrinated Americans, Europeans, and Canadians will give Beijing everything they want, without a shot being fired. link

NYC Officials Warn of ‘Global’ Effort to ‘Radicalize Young People’ in U.S after 300 Arrested at Columbia, CUNY
Frank Bergman May 1, 2024 - 3:13 pm New York City’s leaders and top law enforcement officials have raised the alarm of a “global” effort seeking to “radicalize young people” in America. Mayor Eric Adams and New York City Police Department (NYPD) leadership issued the warning while announcing that approximately 300 arrests were made at Columbia University and City College on Tuesday night. “I know that there are those who are attempting to say, well, the majority of people may have been students,” Adams said at a press conference. “You don’t have to be the majority to influence and co-opt an operation. “That is what this is about. “And so, if we want to play the word police, you could do so. “I’m going to play the New York City police,” the Democrat mayor warned. “There is a movement to radicalize young people, and I’m not going to wait until it’s done and all of a sudden acknowledge the existence of it. “This is a global problem that young people are being influenced by those who are professionals at radicalizing our children. “And I’m not going to allow that to happen as the mayor of the City of New York.” Adams made clear that making arrests at schools and removing those who did not belong on campus is far from the end of the problem. “We know that this is only a comma in the full sentence of public protection in this city,” Adams said. “This is not a celebratory, a moment. “We can’t create environments while children could be in danger, and we must push back on all attempts to radicalize our young people in this city like we’re seeing across the entire globe.” Columbia leadership allowed police onto their private campus on April 18 to arrest over 100 people, as Slay News reported. The move came on the day after Columbia University President Minouche Shafik was hauled before the House Education and the Workforce Committee in Washington, D.C. She was grilled about growing antisemitism at the Ivy League school. JOIN THE FIGHT - DONATE TO SLAY NEWS TODAY! However, protesters reorganized and established an anti-Israel encampment on campus. Those involved in the protests even included some professors who Shafik testified before Congress had been fired or reprimanded over anti-Semitic remarks praising Hamas’s Oct. 7 slaughter of about 1,200 Jews. The protests persisted for about two weeks as the university president opted to keep the police out. Shafik instead had administrators attempting negotiations with protest organizers demanding the university “divest” from Israel. That was until demonstrators took over Hamilton Hall. Approximately 300 people were arrested at Columbia and nearby City College overnight. Preliminary charges range from trespass to criminal mischief to burglary, police said. In an apparent reference to Columbia University locking its gates to keep police out on the sidewalk, NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban held up chains at Wednesday’s press conference with Mayor Adams. “They tried to lock us out,” he said, slamming down the chains afterward. “But the NYPD and the people of the City of New York will never be locked out. “And we will always work together to keep our city safe.” Over the past week, Columbia leadership acknowledged in discussions with NYPD officials that “outside agitators were on their grounds training and really co-opting this movement,” Adams said. Adams revealed that “at the request of Columbia University,” police conducted an operation “to remove those who have turned the peaceful protest into a place where antisemitism and anti-Israel attitudes were pervasive.” link

University of Florida Puts Columbia to Shame with 'Perfect Statement' After Arresting Agitators: 'Not a Daycare'
By Johnathan Jones April 30, 2024 at 8:05am While universities across the country have let anti-Israel demonstrators take over their campuses, the University of Florida has taken a different approach. Not only will school administrators not think twice about removing disruptive agitators from university property, but a UF spokesman tacitly fired off an insult at pro-Hamas, American lost youth on Monday. Nine people were arrested in Gainesville after protesters chose to ignore warnings from the school in regard to what would and wouldn’t be allowed on campus. Campus police and state troopers rolled in on Monday and started slapping handcuffs on people, WKMG-TV in Orlando reported. Steve Orlando, the university’s assistant vice president of communications, issued a statement likening the agitators to small children. “This is not complicated: The University of Florida is not a daycare, and we do not treat protesters like children — they knew the rules, they broke the rules, and they’ll face the consequences,” he said Monday. Orlando added that the rules for what would be acceptable from demonstrators were communicated clearly and that the people who were arrested were responsible for their life choices. “For many days, we have patiently told protesters — many of whom are outside agitators — that they were able to exercise their right to free speech and free assembly,” he said. “And we also told them that clearly prohibited activities would result in a trespassing order from UPD (barring them from all university properties for three years) and an interim suspension from the university. “For days UPD patiently and consistently reiterated the rules. Today, individuals who refused to comply were arrested after UPD gave multiple warnings and multiple opportunities to comply.” As WKMG noted Friday, Florida’s administrators said they wanted to do anything they could to encourage a free and open debate, which is protected under the First Amendment. However, the school said, “Camping, putting up structures, disrupting academic activity, or threatening others on university property is strictly prohibited.” Schools like Columbia in New York City have allowed the inmates to run the asylum for weeks now to scare Jewish students and live like vagabonds. In contrast, the University of Florida set an example in leadership last week and walked the walk on Monday. UF President Ben Sasse took flak during his later years in the Senate, earning him the moniker of RINO (“Republican in name only”) from some on the right. But during his second year in Gainesville, the former Nebraska lawmaker has shown he knows how to run a major university, and it starts with enforcing the rules. People can be as upset about Israel’s war against Islamic terrorists as they want, but they do not have a right to take over public property. While other university heads have let anti-Semitism brew and erupt on their campuses, Sasse and Florida have shown that the problem can be solved for anyone willing to stand on the side of order. link

Pro-Palestinian Activists Rally at UCLA as Police Prepare to Remove Encampment
JOEL B. POLLAK 1 May 2024 Pro-Palestinian demonstrators rallied at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) on Wednesday evening as Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers arrived in riot gear to remove their week-old “encampment.” Earlier Wednesday afternoon, the LAPD warned the activists to leave the “encampment” or face arrest. The activists cheered and resolved to stay, as supporters flocked to UCLA from elsewhere in the city to offer moral support. As riot police massed near the encampment, and prison buses reportedly waited on nearby Wilshire Boulevard, the activists held a rally, with chants of “Free Palestine”; “¡Si, se puede!” and “The people, united, will never be defeated.” They also chanted “From the river to the sea/Palestine will be free,” which is widely considered an antisemitic chant. Roughly half of the world’s Jews live in Israel, the historic and religious homeland of the Jewish people for millennia. And they chanted “Long live intifada!” and “Intifada revolution.” The term intifada refers to Palestinian uprisings in the 1980s and 2000s. The latter was a brutal campaign of terror that killed over 1,000 Israelis, mostly civilians. Since its establishment last Thursday, the encampment had occupied the central plaza of campus in front of Royce Hall, building barricades and forcibly denying entry to students, journalists, and members of the public. This journalist was assaulted by the masked guards of the encampment. UCLA appeared to delegate security authority to the encampment guards. Jewish students feared for their personal safety and were unable to pass through the area. The UCLA administration declined to call police onto campus until pro-Israel vigilantes attacked the encampment overnight from Tuesday into Wednesday, pulling down the barricades and clashing with activists for hours. On social media, activists claimed that police deliberately neglected to protect them because they are on the side of the “Zionists.” In reality, UCLA security had protected the encampment for days as the administration kept police out. Earlier Wednesday, members of the encampment held a press conference and complained about the lack of police protection. (Ironically, as Fox News’ Bill Melugin pointed out, one of the activists’ demands is to “abolish” university police.) Members of the Jewish community were alarmed by the encampment and its radical, antisemitic rhetoric. The neighborhoods near UCLA are home to significant numbers of Jews, notably immigrants from Iran. The overnight clashes finally provoked Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) and L.A. Mayor Karen Bass (D) to react to the situation. Bass vowed that those responsible for the violence overnight would be prosecuted. UCLA Chancellor Gene Block added that students who were found to have participated in the vigilantism would be arrested and would face disciplinary procedures. It was a swift response compared to the week of tolerance shown toward the encampment. link

War at UCLA as Pro-Israel Vigilantes Storm Palestine ‘Encampment’ Overnight
JOEL B. POLLAK 1 May 2024 LOS ANGELES, California — Roughly 100 pro-Israel vigilantes stormed the “Palestine Solidarity Encampment” at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, sparking battles with activists. The raid occurred after nearly a week in which UCLA not only allowed the encampment to occupy the main plaza on campus, but also allowed pro-Palestinian activists to run their own security, barring access to students and the public. The Daily Bruin, the student newspaper, reported the clashes: Fireworks, tear gas and fights broke out just after 10:50 p.m. Tuesday night and continued early Wednesday morning as around 100 pro-Israel counter-protesters attempted to seize the barricade around and storm the ongoing Palestine solidarity encampment in Dickson Plaza. … After the barricades came down, counter-protesters and protesters inside the encampment began to fight. Counter-protesters shot fireworks into the encampment just after 11 p.m., and irritant gasses were released from both sides. A Daily Bruin reporter was indirectly sprayed in the face. … In another statement released at 3:30 a.m., protesters inside the encampment said the university has not done enough to protect students, and they repeated earlier calls for the university to meet their demands. The Daily Bruin reported “multiple events of counter-protesters antagonizing the encampment” in recent days, but failed to note violence by the members of the encampment. Pro-Palestinian demonstrators engulfed in tear gas regroup and rebuild the barricade surrounding the encampment set up on the campus of the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) as clashes erupt with counter protesters, in Los Angeles on May 1, 2024. On Sunday, Breitbart News was told by a UCLA security contractor that the university had delegated security to the activists. (Two days before, activists had used force to assault this journalist and exclude me from the encampment.) UCLA is a taxpayer-funded public university and the area in front of Royce Hall is considered a public space. Many in the Jewish community were shocked at the presence of the “Palestine Solidarity Encampment” and the apparent deference of university authorities toward it. The area around UCLA is one of the most pro-Israel in the country. Beverly Hills, Brentwood, and Bel Air include a large number of Jewish families, especially Persian Jews, many of whom escaped the Islamic revolution in Iran. Los Angeles is also home to a large number of Israeli expatriates. Counter-protesters and activists had clashed from the start last Thursday, and tensions had built up for days. One prankster woke up the activists on Friday by playing Robin Williams’s monologue from Good Morning, Vietnam. After confrontations at a pro-Israel counter-demonstration on Sunday, a pro-Israel group set up a large video screen opposite the encampment, showing video of Hamas atrocities in a continuous loop. Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) — who had done nothing to protect the safety of students on campus as the activists used violence to patrol the perimeter of the encampment — issued a statement on X that he was monitoring the situation: Photos of the California Highway Patrol in riot gear appeared on news wires, suggesting that the state had, finally, intervened after Newsom and UC President Michael Drake had been invisible on the issue of encampments for weeks. UCLA’s administration finally issued a statement on Tuesday, warning that the encampment was unlawful and that it had “requested law enforcement investigations into allegations of violence” by the activists at the encampment. But it was only after the pro-Israel group arrived and began storming the barricades that law enforcement moved in, separating the two sides. It remains to be seen what happens to the surviving part of the encampment going forward. link
