Fears of a potential monkeypox outbreak led a Delta flight to be quarantined for more than two hours Thursday afternoon in Chicago, but federal health officials later determined there was “very little risk” to passengers.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in a statement that “based on the patient’s symptoms and photographs of the rash, it does not appear that the signs and symptoms are consistent with a monkeypox infection.”

The ill passenger, who had been travelling in Africa, was released from the plane before others on board were allowed to disembark. Health officials said there is “very little risk to other passengers.”

Flight 3163 was coming from Detroit, and landed at Midway International Airport in Chicago at about 3:45 local time. The plane was met with emergency crews and the Chicago Department of Public Health, said Chicago Department of Aviation spokeswoman Karen Pride.

The CDC also investigated. Monkeypox is a rare viral disease, the CDC says, with the first outbreak in the U.S. in 2003.

The World Health Organization (WHO) will convene an emergency meeting on monkeypox after cases in the United Kingdom doubled to 20.



Health officials confirmed on Wednesday the first case of monkeypox virus infection in Massachusetts this year.



The CDC expressed concern on Tuesday about the monkeypox outbreak in the UK and warned of the possibility that the outbreak could spread beyond U.K. borders.


“We do have a level of concern that this is very different than what we typically think of from monkeypox. And I think we have some concern that there could be spread outside the U.K associated with this,” a senior CDC official told STAT in an interview.



Now, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) confirmed the first case of monkeypox virus infection in a male adult who recently traveled to Canada.



Canada, Germany and France also have confirmed cases.

The United Nations’ health authority is bringing together leading experts on the rare disease as a number of new countries announced their first confirmed cases Friday, according to the Telegraph.



The main concern is how the virus — usually concentrated in West Africa — may be spreading, the UK paper noted, with many of the new cases among people who had not recently traveled.



The WHO will also be examining why clusters include gay or bisexual men, the paper said, with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) giving similar warnings.

NYC Reports First Suspected Monkeypox Case As WHO Convenes Emergency Meeting

Update (1608ET): Officials in New York City say they are monitoring the state's first suspected case of monkeypox in a patient receiving care at Bellevue Hospital, where preliminary tests have been performed to confirm the disease, according to the Wall Street Journal.



So far, 87 cases have been confirmed worldwide and 57 are under investigation, according to the World Health Organization. Earlier Friday Israel became the 13th country to report a suspected case.


The disease was also reported on Friday by Germany, Australia, France and Belgium, while two cases were confirmed in Canada.



Monkeypox causes a contagious rash similar to chickenpox in humans, and is spread through close contact. Symptoms, which usually appear within the first five days of infection, include muscle aches, chills, fever, swollen glands, exhaustion - and of course, pustules.



The mortality rate for monkeypox ranges from 1% to 15%, and is endemic in three countries; the Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria and the Central African Republic. The first reported case detected in the UK had traveled to Nigeria, after which they returned with a rash, according to the WHO.

Three confirmed cases of monkeypox have been linked to a homosexual fetish festival in Belgium, health authorities said Friday.



The Darklands Festival in Antwerp has been linked to all three confirmed cases of the disease in Belgium following four days of partying that began on May 5, according to AFP. The festival’s organizers said on their website that the Belgian government had asked them to inform attendees that the outbreak was likely caused by a festival-goer bringing the sickness from abroad.

“There’s reason to assume that the virus has been brought in by visitors from abroad to the festival after recent cases in other countries,” the organizers said.



Darklands is a self-described gathering where the “various tribes in the gay fetish community (leather, rubber, army, skinhead, puppies…) come together to create a unique spectacle of fetish brotherhood,” the outlet reported. The World Health Organization is investigating whether some monkeypox outbreaks are spreading within the gay community, according to AFP. The United Kingdom’s health authority has warned gay men to be on particular “alert” as cases there have disproportionately been found in that demographic.



Monkeypox is not typically fatal, but can cause serious symptoms including aches, fever and exhaustion. It often causes a rash which can begin on the face and spread to the genitals. The disease does not usually spread easily between humans, but can be transmitted through close contact with an infected person or linens they have touched, according to the outlet.

Since multiple monkeypox cases have been connected to the Gran Canarian pride event attended by 80,000 people from Britain and around Europe, the event is being examined. Taking place from the 5th to the 15th of May each year, the Maspalomas Pride Festival draws people from all across Europe. A number of persons who attended the festivities later screened positive for the monekypox virus, which is being investigated by public health officials in the Canary Islands.



Thirty-six patients have been confirmed to have been identified in Madrid, but it is not yet clear whether one of them is case zero, or whether everyone was infected at the same time. Two males in the Canary Islands have been linked to the LGBT+ event, one of which has been confirmed. There have been proven instances of monkeypox in Spain related to a sauna, which the authorities are looking into. One of the individuals infected with the virus from Italy has been verified to have been to the Canary Islands, while officials deny that the guy from Tenerife visited this place. The virus was spread to a second Italian visitor to the Canary Islands who was unlucky enough to have come into contact with it. Each of the three Italian guys infected with the virus is completely unrelated to the other two victims.



The number of cases is on the rise

A leading British specialist projected that the number of cases of monkeypox in the UK will “significantly increase” in the coming weeks, citing the country’s 20 confirmed cases and more than 100 confirmed cases throughout Europe.



The monkeypox virus causes the illness, which was initially discovered in monkeys and may be passed from human to human via sexual intercourse.

More than 20 cases have been verified in the UK and nine other nations, notably Spain, Portugal, as well as Canada, have also reported outbreaks of the virus.

Health authorities are on alert as four new cases of monkeypox have been detected in England within the gay community, with none of the patients having travelled to Africa.



Three of those identified were found in London and the fourth is in the north east of the nation.



All four self-identify as gay, bisexual or other men who have sex with men, leading to warnings from the UK Health Security Agency to those in the community to stay aware.



The latest cases bring the total number of confirmed monkeypox cases in the UK to seven, diagnosed between May 6 and 15.



Monkeypox is usually associated with travel to West Africa and is spread by very close contact with someone with the virus, with most people recovering within a few weeks.



Symptoms include rashes which spread to other parts of the body


There are no known connections to those who have already tested positive for the virus, which has a fatality rate varying between one and 15% depending on the outbreak.



Dr Susan Hopkins, Chief Medical Adviser, UKHSA, said: “This is rare and unusual.



“UKHSA is rapidly investigating the source of these infections because the evidence suggests that there may be transmission of the monkeypox virus in the community, spread by close contact.



“We are particularly urging men who are gay and bisexual to be aware of any unusual rashes or lesions and to contact a sexual health service without delay.

The first mandatory quarantine for monkeypox has been introduced in Belgium, which recently hosted a massive gay pride and fetish festival attended by an estimated 80,000 people in Antwerp.



“Those infected with the monkey pox virus must be in isolation for 21 days,” the Dutch publication Standaard reported. “Not high-risk contacts, but they’re best watching over any symptoms. In the meantime, virologist Marc Van Ranst wants to investigate whether the virus can spread airborne.”



Belgium recently hosted the Gran Canaria pride festival, which has been labeled a monkeypox ‘superspreader’ event after attendees from multiple nations appear to have spread the virus worldwide.



“The Gran Canarian pride festival attended by 80,000 from Britain and across Europe is being investigated after being linked to numerous monkeypox cases in Madrid, Italy and Tenerife,” the Daily Mail reported.



“Held between May 5 and May 15, Maspalomas Pride attracts visitors from across the continent,” the report continued. “It was attended by people who have tested positive for the monekypox virus afterwards, with public health services from the Canary Islands now investigating the any links between the cases and the LGBT+ celebrations.”



“Among the 30 or so diagnosed in Madrid, there are several who attended the event, although it is not yet possible to know if one of them is patient zero of this outbreak or if they all got infected there,” a health source told El País.



Belgium thus becomes the first nation in the world to implement a mandatory monkeypox quarantine, Real Mac Report tweeted.


The World Health Organization on Friday announced that monkeypox has been found in 11 countries that “normally don’t have the disease.”

There Will Be More Cases’ — W.H.O. Joins Chorus Warning About Monkeypox as Belgium Confirms Compulsory Lockdown

The World Health Organization (W.H.O.) on Saturday added its voice to the growing chorus warning about the rise in monkeypox infections, saying it expects more cases to emerge after a handful were detected in the U.S. and Europe.



“The situation is evolving and W.H.O. expects there will be more cases of monkeypox identified as surveillance expands in non-endemic countries,” the W.H.O. said in a statement addressing the outbreak.



Twelve W.H.O. member states have reported cases of monkeypox since May 13, according to the agency. The infections, however, do not have established travel connections to endemic areas.



The W.H.O. has record of 92 confirmed monkeypox cases and 28 suspected infections globally as of Saturday, with Israel the latest to report a second confirmed infection.

The disease causes rashes, fever and swollen lymph nodes. The agency said information gives the impression that the virus is spread by physical contact with individuals who are symptomatic.



President Joe Biden on Sunday said “everybody” should be concerned about the recent bubble of cases, as Breitbart News reported.



“They haven’t told me the level of exposure yet, but it is something that everybody should be concerned about,” Biden told reporters in Seoul, South Korea, as he prepared to continue his Asian tour with a trip to Tokyo.

Joe Biden issued a health warning Sunday, cautioning “everybody” should be concerned about the cases of monkeypox now being detected both in the U.S. and in Europe.



The U.S. has vaccines ready to deploy that are “relevant to treating monkeypox,” a government national security adviser later further confirmed.



Biden spoke with reporters before departing Osan Air Base in South Korea for Japan, admitting his health advisers had not yet briefed him on the “level of exposure” of the disease, however he was assured it would be “consequential.”



“They haven’t told me the level of exposure yet, but it is something that everybody should be concerned about,” Biden said, The Hill reports. “We’re working on it hard to figure out what we do and what vaccine, if any, may be available for it.”



“But it is a concern in the sense that if it were to spread, it’s consequential. That’s all they have told me,” the president added.



Monkeypox is rarely identified outside of Africa, but as of Friday, there were 80 confirmed cases worldwide, including at least two in the United States, and another 50 suspected ones.

White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan reportedly later told reporters aboard Air Force One the U.S. has vaccines ready to deploy that are “relevant to treating monkeypox.”



Sullivan said he has been briefing Biden, who is currently on a multiday trip to Asia, on the situation based on written updates from the administration’s health officials.



The warning came as on Friday a patient suspected of having monkeypox has tested positive for orthopoxvirus, the broader group of diseases to which monkeypox belongs, in New York City, as Breitbart News reported.

The potential presence of monkeypox – native to central and western Africa – in NYC follows the confirmation of a case in a Massachusetts resident Wednesday who recently went to Canada.



Since May 14, patients with the virus have been confirmed in Canada, the United Kingdom, Spain, and Portugal. The source for the outbreak in continents other than Africa has not been determined, but in the past, cases have typically been associated with travel to the continent or animal bites, the city agency said.



“Many of these global reports of monkeypox cases are occurring within sexual networks,” said poxvirus specialist Inger Damon, MD, Ph.D., according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC].



“On Monday, the W.H.O. signalled that some of the cases confirmed recently in Britain surfaced among gay men,” the AFP noted.

“People who may have symptoms of monkeypox, particularly men who report sex with other men, and those who have close contact with them, should be aware of any unusual rashes or lesions and contact their healthcare provider for a risk assessment,” the CDC said Wednesday.



Monkeypox spreads in a different way than coronavirus, the W.H.O. noted, specifically through close contact with an infected person or animal. Symptoms of the virus include rashes, fever and swollen lymph nodes.

I keep getting asked the same question again and again; is this outbreak of monkey pox a real threat, or is this another case of overstated and weaponized public health messaging? I am going to save my answer to this question for the end of this article and instead focus on what monkey pox is, the nature and characteristics of the associated disease, what we know and don’t know.



The monkeypox virus, which originates in various regions of Africa, is related to SmallPox (Variola), which are both members of the genus Orthopoxvirus. However, it is important to understand that Variola (major or minor) is the species of virus which is responsible for the worst human disease caused by the Orthopox viruses. For example, Cowpox, Horsepox, and Camelpox are also members of this genus, none of which are a major health threat to humans, and one of which (Cowpox) has even been (historically) used as a Smallpox vaccine. My point is that just because Monkeypox is related to Smallpox, this does not in any way mean that it represents a similar public health threat. Anyone who implies otherwise is basically engaged in or otherwise supporting weaponized public health-related propaganda. In other words, spreading public health fearporn.



Monkeypox was first identified in 1958 in colonies of monkeys, and the first human case of the virus was identified in 1970 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Most likely this was just the first case identified, as people living in Africa have been in contact with monkeys and the other Monkeypox animal hosts for millennia. The “West African” monkeypox clade (clade = variant) circulating outside of Africa at this time causes a milder disease compared to the closely related virus found found in other regions of Africa (Congo clade).



The symptoms of monkeypox are somewhat similar to, but much milder than smallpox disease. The general clinical presentation of the disease caused by the West African monkey pox clade virus involves Influenza-like symptoms — fever, body aches, chills — together with swollen lymph nodes. A rash on the palm of the hand is often observed. In the latter stage of the disease, which may last for up to a month or more in some cases, may involve small lesions which develop a crust, and which can result in a small depigmented scar. There is no evidence of asymptomatic transmission. In other words, current medical knowledge indicates that it is only spread by person to person contact between an uninfected individual and someone who already has symptoms of the disease. Therefore, disease spread can be readily controlled by classical public health interventions such as contact tracing, temporary quarantine of those who have had physical contact with someone who is infected, and longer term quarantine of those who develop symptoms. Essentially all of the current cases in the west which we are seeing in the news are among men who have sex with men, and appear to be due to close physical contact. Monkeypox is endemic in many parts of Africa, and is a “zoonotic” virus, meaning it can be transmitted from a variety of animals (not just monkeys) to humans. Initial animal to human transmission followed by limited human to human transmission is probably the cause of the sporadic cases typically observed in Africa. Chicken pox, which is highly transmissible, is not part of the genus Orthopoxvirus, despite that name “pox.” Once again for emphasis, Cowpox and Camelpox are also in the genus Orthopoxvirus, and they are not particularly pathogenic when contracted by humans; just because Monkeypox is a “pox” virus in the genus Orthopoxvirus, does not mean it is particularly deadly.

WHO Says This Strain of Monkeypox May Spread Through Sexual Contact

The World Health Organization met on Friday to discuss the recent unexplained outbreak of monkeypox — an infectious disease that causes mild symptoms in most people who contract it. As of Sunday, 92 confirmed cases and 28 suspected cases of monkeypox have been reported from 12 countries. What makes this unusual is that the disease is not typically found outside of Africa.



The WHO is working on the basis of a theory that the disease is being transmitted via sexual contact.



Sydney Morning Herald:



“What seems to be happening now is that it has got into the population as a sexual form, as a genital form, and is being spread as are sexually transmitted infections, which has amplified its transmission around the world,” WHO official David Heymann, an infectious disease specialist, told Reuters.



Heymann said an international committee of experts met via video conference to look at what needed to be studied about the outbreak and communicated to the public, including whether there is any asymptomatic spread, who are at most risk, and the various routes of transmission.



He said the meeting was convened “because of the urgency of the situation”. The committee is not the group that would suggest declaring a public health emergency of international concern, WHO’s highest form of alert, which applies to the COVID-19 pandemic.



Scientists need to be able to track the disease in order to contain it. But monkeypox is showing up in countries that it’s never been in before.

“I’m stunned by this. Every day I wake up and there are more countries infected,” said Oyewale Tomori, a virologist who formerly headed the Nigerian Academy of Science and who sits on several WHO advisory boards.



“This is not the kind of spread we’ve seen in West Africa, so there may be something new happening in the West,” he said.



This new strain appears to be spread via sexual contact between gay men and bisexual men. Naturally, we’re now not supposed to “stigmatize” people because their lifestyle has made them sick.

The Wuhan Institute of Virology assembled a monkeypox virus genome, allowing the virus to be identified through PCR tests, using a method researchers flagged for potentially creating a “contagious pathogen,” The National Pulse can reveal.


The study was first published in February 2022, just months before the latest international outbreak of monkeypox cases which appear to have now reached the United States.



The paper, which was authored by nine Wuhan Institute of Virology researchers and published in the lab’s quarterly scientific journal Virologica Sinica, also follows the wide-scale use of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests to identify COVID-19-positive individuals.



Researchers appeared to identify a portion of the monkeypox virus genome, enabling PCR tests to identify the virus, in the paper: “Efficient Assembly of a Large Fragment of Monkeypox Virus Genome as a qPCR Template Using Dual-Selection Based Transformation-Associated Recombination.”


Monkey pox viruses – referred to as “MPXVs” in the paper – have strains that are “more pathogenic and [have] been reported to infect humans in various parts of the world.”



“Quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) is the gold standard for the detection of orthopoxvirus (including MPXV). For pan-orthopoxviruses detection, the E9L (DNA polymerase) gene has been shown to be an excellent target for qPCR assays. For MPXV detection, Li et al. reported that the C3L (complement-binding protein) gene could be used as the qPCR target for the MPXV Congo Basin strain,” explained the paper before noting that China lacked sufficient genetic information on the virus for PCR detection:



“Since MPXV infection has never been associated with an outbreak in China, the viral genomic material required for qPCR detection is unavailable. In this report, we employed dual-selective TAR to assemble a 55-kb MPXV genomic fragment that encompasses E9L and C3L, two valuable qPCR targets for detecting MPXV or other orthopoxviruses.”



“The primary purpose of assembling a fragment of the MPXV genome is to provide a nucleotide template for MPXV detection,” reiterated the study, which relied on the process of transformation-associated recombination (TAR) to isolate a genomic fragment of the monkeypox virus.

“As an efficient tool for assembling large DNA fragments up to 592 kb in length, TAR assembly has become essential for preparing infectious clones of large DNA/RNA viruses,” explained researchers.



The paper acknowledged that TAR “applied in virological research could also raise potential security concerns, especially when the assembled product contains a full set of genetic material that can be recovered into a contagious pathogen.”



“In this study, although a full-length viral genome would be the ideal reference template for detecting MPXV by qPCR, we only sought to assemble a 55-kb viral fragment, less than one-third of the MPXV genome. Monkeypox is spreading globally for the first time, in an outbreak that has caught health officials off-guard. And if you believe that...


The UK's case count today doubled to 20 but the majority of them are not linked — which suggests more are going undetected.



Eleven countries have now detected the tropical virus, which is usually only spotted within Africa.





Germany and Belgium today became the latest nations to declare monkeypox cases, while France and Australia announced patients had tested positive overnight.



A disproportionate number of cases are in gay and bisexual men, authorities have said. Health chiefs say the pattern of transmission is 'highly suggestive of spread in sexual networks'.


Here is everything we know about the monkeypox outbreak so far:

Eleven more Britons have been diagnosed with monkeypox and all but one of them appear to have contracted it in the UK. The original UK patient had brought the virus back from Nigeria, where the disease is widespread. The UK has now logged 20 cases


How do you catch monkeypox?



Until this worldwide outbreak, monkeypox was usually caught from infected animals in west and central Africa.



The tropical virus is thought to be spread by rodents, including rats, mice and even squirrels.



Humans can catch the illness — which comes from the same family as smallpox — if they're bitten by infected animals, or touch their blood, bodily fluids, or scabs.



Consuming contaminated wild game or bush meat can also spread the virus.



The orthopoxvirus can enter the body through broken skin — even if it's not visible, as well as the eyes, nose and mouth.



Despite being mainly spread by wild animals, it was known that monkeypox could be passed on between people.



However, health chiefs insist it is very rare.



Human-to-human spread can occur if someone touches clothing or bedding used by an infected person, or through direct contact with the virus' tell-tale scabs.



The virus can also spread through coughs and sneezes.



In the ongoing surge in cases, experts think the virus is passing through skin-to-skin contact during sex — even though this exact mechanism has never been seen until now.



How deadly is it?



Monkeypox is usually mild, with most patients recovering within a few weeks without treatment.



Yet, the disease kills up to 10 per cent of cases. But this high rate is thought to be in part due to a historic lack of testing meaning that a tenth of known cases have died rather than a tenth of all infections.



However, with milder strains the fatality rate is closer to one in 100 — similar to when Covid first hit.



The UK cases all had the West African version of the virus, which is mild compared to the Central African strain.



It is thought that cases in Portugal and Spain also have the milder version, though tests are underway.



How is it tested for?



It can be difficult to diagnose monkeypox as it is often confused with other infections such as chickenpox.



Monkeypox is confirmed by a clinical assessment by a health professional and a test in the UK's specialist lab - the UKHSA's Rare and Imported Pathogens Laboratory.



The test involves taking samples from skin lesions, such as part of the scab, fluid from the lesions or pieces of dry crusts.



What are the symptoms?



It can take up to three weeks for monkeypox-infected patients to develop any of its tell-tale symptoms.



Early signs of the virus include a fever, headache, muscle aches, backache, swollen lymph nodes, chills and exhaustion — meaning it could, theoretically, be mistaken for other common illnesses.



But its most unusual feature is a rash that often begins on the face, then spreads to other parts of the body, commonly the hands and feet.



The rash changes and goes through different stages before finally forming a scab, which later falls off.



How long is someone contagious?



An individual is contagious from the point their rash appears until all the scabs have fallen off and there is intact skin underneath.



The scabs may also contain infectious virus material.



The infectious period is thought to last for three weeks but may vary between individuals.



What do I do if I have symptoms?



Anyone with an unusual rash or lesions on any part of their body, especially their genitalia, should contact NHS 111 or call a sexual health service.



Britons are asked to contact clinics ahead of their visit and avoid close contact with others until they have been seen by a medic.



Gay and bisexual men have been asked to be especially alert to the symptoms as most of the cases have been detected in men who have sex with men.



What even is monkeypox?



Monkeypox was first discovered when an outbreak of a pox-like disease occurred in monkeys kept for research in 1958.



The first human case was recorded in 1970 in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the infection has been reported in a number of central and western African countries since then.



Only a handful of cases have been reported outside of Africa and they were confined to people with travel links to the continent.



The UK, US, Israel and Singapore are the only countries which had detected the virus before May 2022.

Massachusetts Confirms First U.S. Case of Monkeypox Virus


Health officials in Massachusetts have confirmed a single case of the monkeypox virus in a man who recently traveled to Canada. Recent outbreaks of the virus, which is endemic to central and western Africa but rare elsewhere, have occurred in the U.K., Spain, and Portugal. The unidentified adult male in Massachusetts is the first confirmed case of the virus in the U.S. this year.



“The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) today confirmed a single case of monkeypox virus infection in an adult male with recent travel to Canada,” the department said in a statement released Wednesday.



The department said they are working closely with the CDC and other relevant partners to conduct contact tracing and prevent the further spread of the virus.



While this is the first confirmed case this year in the U.S., outbreaks have occurred across Europe. The U.K. has reported nine cases of the monkeypox virus, with the first case occurring in a man who had recently traveled to Nigeria. Reuters reported Spain earlier today confirmed seven cases of the virus, while Portugal confirmed a total of 14 cases.



Gay, bisexual, and men who have sex with men are particularly at risk, as evidenced by the recent outbreak in the U.K. which occurred amongst men in the LGBTQ+ community.

Utah is now the fourth U.S. state to probe suspected cases of monkeypox, after two individuals fell ill with symptoms of the disease following international travel, state officials reported Monday.



Officials in the state said the two adults — who have not been named — live in the same house in Salt Lake County and began experiencing a 'mild illness' shortly after returning from abroad. They are now in isolation and there is 'no risk' of wider transmission.



It was not revealed where the individuals had returned from, but the Department of Health said it was an area 'currently experiencing monkeypox cases'.





A total of five confirmed or suspected cases of the virus — normally confined to West or Central Africa — have now been detected in America. One case has been confirmed in Massachusetts, while infections are still being probed in New York City and Florida.



Globally, more than 100 cases have been detected across at least 16 countries — mostly in Europe — with a disproportionate number among gay and bisexual men.



World Health Organization chief Dr David Heymann warned Monday the outbreak was likely sparked by a 'random event' that may be explained by risky sexual behavior at two mass events in Europe.



Several cases have been spotted in individuals who attended the annual pride festival that drew 80,000 people in Gran Canaria, Spain, and in people who went to a fetish festival in Antwerp, Belgium.



It comes after President Joe Biden sought to assure Americans over the monkeypox outbreak, saying vaccines and treatments were available. It was a significant departure from yesterday when he said 'everyone' should be concerned over the spread of the virus.



White House Covid response coordinator Dr Ashish Jha has warned the U.S. to brace for more monkeypox cases to be spotted in the near future.

European countries will be told to prepare a vaccination plan to tackle the spiralling monkeypox outbreak, it was claimed today as Denmark became the latest country to be struck down.



EU authorities are set to publish a risk assessment, which will advise all member states to draw up an inoculation strategy to control the spread of the tropical virus.



No monkeypox-specific vaccine exists but smallpox jabs, which were routinely offered to Brits until the virus was eradicated four decades ago, are up to 85 per cent effective.





The strategy likely to be recommended is the same one already deployed in Britain. MailOnline last week revealed officials were attempting to contain the spread by vaccinating all close contacts of the 20 confirmed monkeypox cases, including NHS workers.



The strategy, called ring vaccination, involves jabbing and monitoring anyone around an infected person to form a buffer of immune people to limit the disease's spread.



It comes as experts warn nations could bring in travel restrictions to control the spread of the illness, if the World Health Organization (WHO) declares the outbreak an emergency.



Monkeypox is usually only spotted within Africa, but 16 countries — including the US, France and Spain — have all now detected the virus this month. Denmark is latest to confirm an infection, in a man who recently returned from Spain. Greece and Argentina are probing suspected cases.



Health chiefs are alarmed about the 'unprecedented' cluster of cases, which has disproportionately struck gay and bisexual men.



Boris Johnson today claimed it was important for No10 to 'keep an eye' on the situation as he sought to calm fears after Scotland recorded its first case. On a visit to a school in south east London, the Prime Minister added: 'So far the consequences don't seem to be very serious.'



Despite growing alarm about the world's growing outbreak, leading experts are adamant monkeypox won't spiral out of control like Covid, which forced nations into economically-crippling restrictions.

(Natural News) Following the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic of 2020, another infectious disease known as monkeypox has emerged. However, the monkeypox scare appears to be just another “plandemic” as governments managed to secure vaccines for it in record time.



Doctors in at least eight nations, including the U.S., are now treating patients infected with the disease – which is related to smallpox. The first confirmed case of monkeypox in the U.S. was found in a man from Massachusetts, and doctors in New York also began looking into another possible case there.



Community transmission is likely, doctors say, as some cases involve patients with no travel history to a country where monkeypox is endemic.



“Most sites [of monkeypox] outbreaks have been in Central and West Africa – like Nigeria for example – and sporadic cases in travelers in the U.S.,” Dr. Peter Chin-Hong of the University of California San Francisco said.



Monkeypox cases have also been identified in the United Kingdom, with the U.K. Health Security Agency identifying 11 infected patients. The country’s health authorities urged Britons with “unusual rashes or lesions on any part of their body, especially genitalia” to get in touch with the National Health Service at the soonest.



According to Dr. Michael Head of the University of Southampton, those infected with monkeypox typically have “fever, headache, some nausea and prominent skin wounds – the boils and the scabs that appear.”



Both the U.S. and U.K. announced that they have obtained vaccines to use against monkeypox in the same manner as how they addressed COVID-19.

The U.S. government has ordered monkeypox vaccines worth $119 million for 13 million Americans, while the U.K. Health Secretary Sajid Javid announced the procurement of “safe and effective” vaccines against the new infectious disease.



According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, monkeypox was first found in 1958 in monkeys kept for research. The first human case was recorded in 1970 in the Democratic Republic of Congo amid an effort to eliminate smallpox in the country.



Monkeypox another “plandemic” to subdue the population

The monkeypox scare seems like another “plandemic” designed to instill fear and subdue the population two years after COVID-19 reared its head. It also appeared to line up with predictions from Microsoft co-founder and vaccine advocate Bill Gates. During an interview, Gates reiterated the need to be prepared for future pandemics that may break out.



“We have to make sure that we’re ready, because there will be another pandemic. There’s so many lessons about how we weren’t prepared [and] how we should have handled things differently. You know, when [those are] clearly in our mind, those investments need to be made,” he said.



“We [also] have to bring this [COVID-19 pandemic] to end, primarily by getting the vaccine out in large numbers to the entire world.”



The 2021 annual letter from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, run by the technocrat and his former wife, pointed out that the pandemic served as a defining moment for this generation.



“Just as WWII led to greater cooperation between countries to protect the peace and prioritize the common good, we think that the world has an important opportunity to turn the hard-won lessons of this pandemic into a healthier, more equal future for all,” the letter added.



Ultimately, Gates had been predicting the emergence of a pandemic since 2015. “If anything kills over 10 million people in the next few decades, it’s most likely to be a highly infectious virus. If we start now, we can be ready for the next epidemic,” he said at the time.
