3 Incredible Stats from Obama’s First Term

“It was so easy on paper.”
After four years of President Obama, what do Americans have to show for it?
Well, they have more debt. President Obama’s policies increased the debt obligation per person by $50,521, more than the first forty-one presidents and fifty-three terms combined:
On Jan. 20, 2009, when Obama was first inaugurated, the total debt of the federal government was $10,626,877,048,913.08, according to the U.S. Treasury. As of the close of business on Jan. 17, the last day reported by the Treasury before Obama’s second inauguration, the total debt of the federal government was $16,432,631,489,854.70.
Thus, from Obama’s first inauguration to his second, the federal government’s debt grew by $5,805,754,440,941.62.
Given that the Census Bureau currently estimates that there are 114,916,000 households in the United States, the $5,805,754,440,941.62 debt increase under Obama equals about $50,521 per household.
That number’s a bit deceptive though. It assumes every American household will pay taxes, which we all know they don’t. Only fifty-three percent of Americans are paying income tax, which means the real debt obligation increased by $34,895.71. While that’s not as bad as the “per household” numbers, it’s only the portion accrued over the last four years.
The total burden per taxpayer is $145,861.
Another increase under Obama was the number of food stamp recipients, which rose by 11,133.
Per day.
For four years:
When Obama was inaugurated in January 2009, the number of SNAP recipients was 31,939,110. By October 2012, the latest month reported, they had jumped to 47,525,329.
That means the food stamp program grew by an of approximately 11,133 recipients per day from January 2009 to October 2012.
Over four years, seventeen million people joined the SNAP program.
Remember that when you hear leftists proclaiming the success of Obama’s reign. If the “progress” is question, you will undoubtedly be asked to consider how bad it would have been if Obama had done nothing.
As if that’s the only option that was available to deal with the fiscal mess the country was in when he took office.
Finally, over the past four years, Americans not in the labor force increased by 8,332,000:
When Obama was inaugurated in January 2009, there were 80,507,000 American civilians age 16 or older who did not have a job or seek one. In December 2012, there were 88,839,000—thus, the increase of 8,332,000.
Also, in January 2009, there were 32,484,808 retired workers collecting Social Security benefits, according to the Social Security Administration. By December 2012 that had risen to 36,719,288, and increase of 4,234,480.
The increase in the number of Americans not participating in the labor force during Obama’s presidency outstripped the increase in the retired workers collecting Social Security by 4,097,520 persons.
Obama promised in 2009 to fix all of this. He would keep unemployment down and create jobs. He would end deficit spending. He would make people less dependent on the government.
He’s either a liar or an incompetent.
Or both.
