We already have a state named Washington, so what would the 51st state be called? How about New Columbia?

U.S. Senator Tom Carper of Delaware is introducing a bill that would make Washington D.C. the nation’s 51st state. It would be the state of New Columbia.

The Delaware Democrat is the incoming chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, which oversees the nation’s capital.

But don’t get ready to sew a another star on your flag just yet. The bill making Washington D.C. the 51st state has little chance of passing.
