Nineteen wounded, one critically, as Hezbollah attacks Western Galilee
Hezbollah-affiliated media claimed that three drones were sent across the border. (August 6, 2024 / JNS) Nineteen Israelis were wounded on Tuesday when Hezbollah launched attack drones towards the Western Galilee, according to initial reports. A man in his 30s was listed in serious condition, a 30-year-old woman was moderately wounded, and others suffered light wounds, according to reports. At least two drones were said to have been launched into Israel; only some were intercepted. One drone impacted the Arab town of Mazra’a, between Acre and Nahariya, after crossing the border from Lebanon. Magen David Adom emergency service medics reportedly treated victims at three different scenes around Nahariya. The wounded were evacuated to the city’s Galilee Medical Center, according to MDA. The Israel Defense Forces said that at least some of the casualties were apparently caused by an Israeli interceptor missile that missed its target. “As a result of the fall, several civilians were injured, the incident is under investigation,” the military announced in a post on X. MDA paramedics told Israel’s Channel 13 News: “We saw the man sitting in the car unconscious and suffering from a severe head injury from a shrapnel hit and another injured woman was near the parking lot where she is fully conscious and suffering from shrapnel injuries to her limbs.” “We gave the man medical treatment that included resuscitation and medication and evacuated him in an MDA intensive-care vehicle to the hospital in very serious condition. Another injured woman was evacuated from the scene in mild-to-moderate condition,” they said. Lebanon’s Al Mayadeen, which is affiliated with Hezbollah, said that three drones infiltrated Israel in the latest wave of attacks. The Iran-backed terror group took credit for at least seven launches on Tuesday. Rocket and drone alerts sounded in the Western Galilee. Footage posted to social media appeared to show a drone flying over Nahariya and Acre. CCTV captured the moment that a suicide drone apparently hit the road in Mazra’a. According to reports, a car was directly hit. The video footage appeared to show vehicles driving very close to the point of impact. The attacks came shortly after the IDF announced that the Israeli Air Force struck a Hezbollah “military” structure in the area of Nabatiyeh in Southern Lebanon that was used by terrorists to attack Israel. Additionally, the IAF struck a Hezbollah structure in the area of Khiam. A back-and-forth from Southern Lebanon Earlier on Tuesday, Lebanon’s health ministry said four people were killed in an alleged Israeli strike in the town of Maifadoun in Southern Lebanon. A source told AFP that they were all Hezbollah terrorists. The IDF said on Monday evening that the IAF struck senior Hezbollah terrorist Ali Jamal Aldin Jawad in the area of Ebba, also in Southern Lebanon. An IDF officer and soldier were moderately wounded when a Hezbollah suicide drone launched from Lebanon scored a direct hit near Kibbutz Ayelet HaShahar in the Hula Valley overnight on Sunday. Hezbollah has attacked northern Israel nearly every day since joining the war in support of Gaza-based Hamas on Oct. 8, killing more than 20 people and causing widespread damage. Tens of thousands of Israeli civilians remain internally displaced due to the ongoing violence. The terror group has vowed revenge for last week’s targeted killing by Israel of senior Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr in Beirut. Shukr was responsible for a rocket attack that killed 12 children in Majdal Shams, a Druze village in the Golan Heights, on July 27, as well as a 1983 bombing that killed 241 U.S. service members in Beirut. link

Iran receiving Russian air defenses ahead of possible war with Israel, report says
JNS Israel at War August 6, 2024 Iran Israel Russia The request came following a day-long visit to Tehran by a top Moscow official. Two Iranian officials confirmed that Iran made the request and Russia has started delivering radars and air-defense equipment, according to the Times, citing Iranian media. The request came following a day-long visit to Tehran by head of the Russian Security Council and former Minister of Defense, Sergei Shoigu, on Monday. Iran wants the air-defense systems in preparation for its promised revenge strike against Israel over the killing of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran last Wednesday. Curing a meeting with Iran’s new president, Masoud Pezeshkian, Shoigu described Iran as a key strategic ally of Russia’s in the region, according to Iran’s Press TV. “The Islamic Republic of Iran is in no way seeking to expand the scope of war and crisis in the region, but certainly this [Zionist] regime will receive a response for its crimes and audacity,” Pezeshkian said, calling the assassination of Haniyeh a violation of international law. IDF kills 20 terrorists in Rafah as Gaza-wide ops continue(August 15, 2024 / JNS) Israeli forces killed 20 terrorists and dismantled a structure concealing a tunnel entrance during operational activities in the former Hamas stronghold of Rafah in southernmost Gaza, the IDF said on Thursday. In nearby Khan Yunis, several terrorists operating inside Hamas weapons storage facilities were killed. In an additional strike, the Israeli Air Force killed a tactical-level Islamic Jihad terrorist operative who was responsible for firing projectiles at IDF troops and Israeli territory. The IAF on Tuesday struck terrorist targets adjacent to, but not in, a humanitarian route in Khan Yunis from where Hamas fired two rockets at Tel Aviv earlier in the day, the IDF said. And in the central Gaza Strip, a terrorist cell was eliminated and a weapons storage facility was dismantled. Over the past 24 hours, the IAF attacked more than 30 Hamas terrorist infrastructure sites, including structures rigged with explosives, underground infrastructure, and weapons storage facilities. link

IDF bombs Hezbollah sites in Lebanon, secondary explosions suggest ‘many’ weapons
(August 19, 2024 / JNS) Israeli jets struck several Hezbollah arms depots in the Bekaa Valley “deep in Lebanon,” the Israel Defense Forces stated on Monday evening. Secondary explosions indicated “the presence of many weapons in the warehouses that were attacked,” the IDF stated in Hebrew. Reuters reported multiple civilian injuries. Dramatic footage purporting to show the explosions and evoking large-scale fireworks displays circulated on social media. The Israeli Air Force also killed Hossein Ali Hossein, “a key terrorist” in Hezbollah’s rocket and missile unit, in Southern Lebanon, the Israeli military said. link

Israel Launches Preemptive Strikes in Lebanon to Thwart Massive Hezbollah Attack
by Kristinn Taylor Aug. 24, 2024 10:00 pm Israel announced late Saturday night (US EDT) that it had launched preemptive airstrikes against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon to thwart a massive rocket, missile and drone attack. The Israeli government posted announcements in English, “In a self-defense act to remove these threats, the IDF is striking terror targets in Lebanon, from which Hezbollah was planning to launch their attacks on Israeli civilians.” And Hebrew (via translation): IDF spokesman Hagari is informing the public tonight that the Air Force began a wave of attacks in Lebanon – a pre-emptive attack, after recognizing Hezbollah was preparing to launch rockets and missiles at Israel Hagari: “A short time ago, we detected Hezbollah’s preparations to launch missiles and rockets at the State of Israel. Following this, we attack proactively to remove the threat to the citizens of the State of Israel. Air Force planes are now attacking terrorist targets in Lebanon from which we detect that Hezbollah is preparing to launch threats to our territory. In the near future, Hezbollah will launch rockets, and possibly missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles, towards the territory of the State of Israel. Accordingly, “life-saving” instructions of the Home Front Command will be distributed in the various regions. We warn the Lebanese citizens who are in South Lebanon – we recognize that Hezbollah is now preparing to shoot widely into Israeli territory near your home. You are in danger. We attack and remove Hezbollah threats. Anyone who is near the areas where Hezbollah operates, is required to stay away from them immediately, in order to protect himself and his family. The IDF is doing and will do everything necessary to protect the citizens of the State of Israel. In the next hour I will appear here again and update you on all developments” Unverified videos and photos: A report of rocket and drone alert in northern Israel: Fox News Pentagon producer Liz Friden posted a graphic of U.S. Navy assets in the Middle East two days ago: Aviso reporter Barak Ravid posted the Israeli government informed the US before the attacks on Hezbollah: link

Netanyahu Vows More 'Surprising Blows' After Preemptive Hezbollah Attack: "Not The End"
by Tyler Durden Sunday, Aug 25, 2024 - 04:55 PM "What happened today is not the end of the story," said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a statement posted on X. Early morning 'preemptive' strikes included over 100 Israeli fighter jets simultaneously attacking thousands of Hezbollah rocket launchers and drone sites across southern Lebanon. "We are hitting Hezbollah with surprising blows. Three weeks ago we eliminated their chief of staff and today we thwarted their attack," Netanyahu said further. IAF jet in action over southern Lebanon on Sunday, AFP/Getty Images The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) later said Hezbollah had launched 210 rockets and some 20 drones on northern and central Israel. In follow-up IDF Spokesman Rear Adm Daniel Hagari announced that at least six Hezbollah operatives were killed in Sunday's major preemptive operation. This brings the tally to 30 Hezbollah operatives killed in just the last week. Hagari declared Sunday's operation to be a success: "Contrary to Hezbollah’s claims, there were no impacts in IDF bases, not in the north and not in the center [of the country]," he said, rejecting claims made by Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. Interestingly, Israel has disclosed that it gave Washington a warning ahead of the major escalation. The Times of Israel details: Israel gave the Americans "considerable" advance notice of its pre-dawn preemptive strike on Hezbollah’s rocket and missile launchers, Channel 2 news reports. It says the US administration gave its backing to the attack, but warned both before and after it took place that Israel should be careful to avoid escalating the conflict toward all-out war. The TV report said the message from the US was conveyed in several interactions with Jerusalem and broadly stated: "We support the operation to avert the specific threat, but be careful in your actions; don’t do anything that is likely to lead to a regional war." So far, there doesn't appear to be runaway escalation as a result of Sunday's exchange of fresh fire. The cross-border fighting between Israel and Hezbollah was some of the most severe in months, resulting several fatalities in Lebanon, according to the country's health ministry. However, within hours after the fight began, both sides appeared to de-escalate, with Hezbollah declaring its military operations "finished for the day." In a further indication that the situation was stabilizing, Israel, which shuttered Ben-Gurion International Airport near Tel Aviv earlier, reopened the airport later on Sunday. link

Netanyahu: Preemptive strike on Hezbollah ‘not end of the story’
Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah and Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei must know that Israel will change the equation in the north, said the premier. (August 25, 2024 / JNS) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that the IDF’s coordinated preemptive strikes against Hezbollah terror assets on Sunday was not the final blow. “What happened today is not the end of the story. Early this morning, Hezbollah tried to attack the State of Israel with rockets and drones. We directed the IDF to carry out an intense preemptive attack to remove the threat,” Netanyahu said at the start of the Cabinet meeting, which this week was held at the Kirya military headquarters in Tel Aviv. “The IDF destroyed thousands of short-range rockets, all of which were designed to attack our citizens and our forces in the Galilee. Also, the IDF intercepted all of the drones that Hezbollah launched at a strategic target in the center of the country,” continued the premier. “We are striking Hezbollah with surprising crushing blows. Three weeks ago, we eliminated its chief of staff [Fuad Shukr], and today we thwarted its attack plan. “[Hezbollah terrorist chief Hassan] Nasrallah in Beirut and [Iranian Supreme Leader Ali] Khamenei in Tehran need to know that this is an additional step in changing the situation in the north and returning our residents securely to their homes,” Netanyahu said. Early on Sunday morning, approximately 100 Israeli Air Force fighter jets, directed by IDF intelligence, destroyed thousands of Hezbollah rocket launchers in Southern Lebanon. Hezbollah subsequently fired more than 200 projectiles into Israel. The Iranian proxy released a statement according to which the launches were “stage one” of its retaliation for Israel’s targeted killing of Shukr on July 31. The main target of the attack was likely the Glilot base near Herzliya, the site of Mossad headquarters and various military intelligence units. The IDF has lifted crowd restrictions issued for Tel Aviv and Haifa as well as many cities and towns in northern Israel that were put in place early Sunday morning. link

Hezbollah’s target was Mossad HQ in central Israel
The Glilot base near Herzliya also hosts multiple Israeli military intelligence units. (August 25, 2024 / JNS) The main target of Hezbollah’s Sunday morning attack was likely the Glilot base near Herzliya, the site of Mossad headquarters and various military intelligence units, according to preliminary Israeli assessments. The New York Times reported, citing Western intelligence sources, that the IDF’s pre-emptive strike neutralized long-range rocket launchers that were set to target central Israel. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the strikes on Hezbollah targets in Southern Lebanon thwarted an imminent attack by the Iranian proxy. “This morning we identified Hezbollah preparations to attack Israel. In consensus with the defense minister and the IDF chief of staff, we directed the IDF to initiate action to eliminate the threat,” said Netanyahu at the start of a Security Cabinet meeting. Approximately 100 Israeli Air Force fighter jets, directed by IDF intelligence, destroyed thousands of Hezbollah rockets in Southern Lebanon, according to the military. Hezbollah subsequently launched more than 200 projectiles into Israel. link

IDF: 90% of Hezbollah Rockets Fired from Civilian Areas in Lebanon
Joel B. Pollak 26 Aug 2024 The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Monday that 90% of the Hezbollah rockets that were intercepted Sunday were fired from civilian areas in southern Lebanon, a further violation of international law by the Iran-backed terror group. In a statement, the IDF said: Early Sunday morning, following the detection of preparations by Hezbollah to launch missiles and rockets aimed toward the north and the center of the State of Israel, the IDF struck Hezbollah targets that posed an immediate threat. During the strike, about 230 launches and 20 aerial targets were identified crossing into Israeli territory. The Hezbollah terrorist organization places its terrorist infrastructure in the middle of the civilian population while using Lebanese civilians as human shields. 90% of the launches were from the heart of a civilian area, near civilian facilities such as mosques, schools, UN sites, etc. Hezbollah and Hamas, a Palestinian terror group, both follow the practice of hiding weapons among civilians so that if Israel attacks the weapons sites, there will be civilian casualties for which Israel will be blamed — even though intentionally exposing civilians to enemy fire is a violation of international humanitarian law by the terrorists. Israel launched a preemptive strike targeting thousands of Hezbollah rocket launchers before the terror organization attacked. One of the targets of Hezbollah had reportedly been Tel Aviv. Hezbollah was seeking to avenge the death of its second-in-command, Fuad Shukr, killed by Israel last month. Shukr was also linked to the U.S. Marines barracks bombing in 1983 that killed 241 U.S. servicemen. Hezbollah’s very presence in southern Lebanon is a violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 of 2006, which requires southern Lebanon to be demilitarized. link
