THE “LAMB’S BOOK OF LIFE”: WHO RECORDS YOUR NAME?
DOES THE BIBLE SAY THAT YOUR NAME CAN BE BLOTTED OUT OF THE ‘BOOK OF LIFE?’ This is one of the hottest subjects in today’s church. First, we need to know the awesome truth about this Book. This is absolutely the one solitary record of every soul that belongs to the Lord. Your name in this Book places you in the royal family. You become a citizen of Heaven when your name is recorded. The Father, Son and Holy Ghost knows every name in this Book. You are never alone and you are never without protection and loving care. This Book secures you in His care.
The Bible does not tell us who writes these names in the Book. There is a little truth that I believe about this question. I believe this is one of the breath-taking tasks of the Holy Ghost. Malachi spoke of a “Book of Remembrance” that was written “before the Lord” or in His presence. The Holy Ghost is the revelator of all truth so He is joined in this task with the Lord. “Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name.” (Malachi 3:16) Different opinions may be given and that’s okay. It certainly is a task of divine importance and I see it as part of our Triune God’s great actions.
This Book is never spoken of in the plural. It is a single book. If as many as one billion souls from all times, back to the Garden of Eden are written in this Book, it is a mammoth Book. One thousand names on one page would require one million pages. Ten million would require ten thousand pages. There has been billions of people since Adam with over seven billion, plus total population today. Remember that Jesus said, “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” (Matthew 7:13-14) Without a doubt this is a Heavenly Book.
The magnificent city of Jerusalem is prepared for every name written in this Book. Those that live in the city and those that live in the Nations outside the city all have their names in the “Lamb’s Book of Life.” “And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it. And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there. And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it. And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.” (Revelation 21:24-27) The saved of the many multitudes living in these cities will be welcomed to visit those that live in New Jerusalem. The highest reward is to be part of the Bride of Christ and occupy a mansion in the city.
Absolutely, your name can be blotted out of this divine Book of Saints. For someone to think that they can live in this Holy City, actually a sanctuary of the Lord, and practice sin on the way there is unthinkable. In fact the first scripture we shall review shows us that the Lord Jesus Himself will remove names of the disobedient. In Christ letters to the entire church dispensation states this fact clearly. We live in a compromising generation that tolerates many things which the Lord condemns.
The Lord stated to the Church at Sardis, “He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.” (Revelation 3:5-6) The Lord stated if I may repeat, “I will not blot out his name.”The Lord Jesus Christ does not make empty threats.
Let me simply share three additional scriptures to warn you of this truth. “And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” (Revelation 22:19) Bible translators that have considered themselves worthy of picking and choosing verses to change or eliminate are facing severe judgment.
Moses recorded his conversation with God and was told a similar truth. “And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold. Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin–; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written. And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.” (Exodus 32:31-33) That was the Father talking when He said, “I will blot out of my Book.” David said a similar truth. “Add iniquity unto their iniquity: and let them not come into thy righteousness. Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous.” (Psalm 69:27-28)
Our name in this eternal Book is the identification for all of God’s saints. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost knows every name in this Book. The devil and every demon knows that our names are recorded in the “Lamb’s Book of Life.” I believe a Christian will know the witness in their spirit when they meet a saint recorded by the Holy Ghost. This is a royal family with Divine Blood in our veins. The Holy Spirit abides in no life that is not covered by the Blood.
If you walk away from the Lord and refuse the wooing of the Holy Ghost to repent, at God’s appointed moment, your name will be blotted out. Is there forgiveness? Absolutely! The ‘Prodigal Son’ testifies that the Father will welcome you home. He has a royal garment awaiting your return. Better still is to abide in the truth and walk in obedience. If you will stay on fire with the Holy Ghost, you will be too hot for the devil to handle.
