Somewhere or other I heard (read? information overload again!) a pretty good argument that hell is at the center of the earth, and the following Scripture would seem to indicate that it's getting bigger:

Isaiah 5:14:
Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure: and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall descend into it.

Seeing how evil the world is today, perhaps hell is getting full and expanding outwards, and thus the cracks?
