Air Fryer Mozzarella Stix. Made With A Tortilla Chip Crunchy Coating
Ingredients
Makes 12 Mozzarella Stix:
200g / 7oz Mozzarella cheese (block)
180g / 6½oz Tortilla chips (cheese or chilli flavoured)
100g / 3½oz Seasoned Flour
2 large Eggs (Well beaten)
½tsp Garlic granules
½tsp Dried Oregano
½tsp Hot chilli powder
Spray oil
Cut the Mozzarella cheese into 1cm or ½in strips, approximately 3in long.
Crush the tortilla chips into a fine crumb consistency, see the video for a choice of methods on how to achieve this.
Once made add the crumbs to a suitable bowl.
Mix the flour with a ½tsp of salt, in a suitable container for dipping the Mozzarella sticks in.
Beat 2 large eggs in a suitable container for dipping the Mozzarella sticks in.
Dredge the sticks in the seasoned flour, brush off any clumps of flour.
Dip the floured sticks in the egg, make sure it is well coated in the egg mixture.
Place the egged stick into the crumbs, toss until fully coated, repeat for the other 11 sticks.
Once all 12 are done, go through the egg and crumb mixture again, leaving out the seasoned flour this time. This extra coating will prevent the cheese from leaking out in the air fryer.
Once they are all completed, place them on a plate or baking tray and freeze them for at least 4 hours, overnight is better.
The reason for freezing is to give the outer crust time to harden in the air fryer when cooking and seal in the cheese while it is still frozen.
Time to air fry them.
Place a sheet of parchment paper in the bottom of the food drawer.
Get the mozzarella sticks out of the freezer and place them in the food drawer, keeping them apart, if you don’t have a double air fryer, do this in 2 batches.
Set your machine to air fry.
Set the temperature to 180°C / 355°F.
Set the time for 7 minutes.
Hit start.
Once the time is up, carefully remove them from the air fryer, allow them to cool for couple of minutes.
These are great served as part of a party buffet.
