Speculation is mounting that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis could choose Republican National Committee (RNC) Co-Chair Lara Trump to replace Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) in the U.S. Senate.
As Slay News reported, President Donald Trump has just announced that Rubio is his pick for the next secretary of state in his new administration.
Since the announcement, many have floated Trump’s daughter-in-law to fill Rubio’s seat.
Lara Trump played a key role in Republican victories during the election cycle and would make for an obvious MAGA ally in the Senate.
Amid the speculation, Lara Trump has responded, saying she “would love to serve the people of Florida.”
“This is my home state now and has been for three years,” she told Fox News host Sean Hannity during an appearance on his prime-time show.
Trump made his daughter-in-law co-chair of the RNC when he reshaped the committee earlier this year.
She has led the RNC during a cycle when the party captured the White House and the Senate while holding a narrow House majority.
Trump gave regular shout-outs to his daughter-in-law on the campaign trail, noting in battleground North Carolina that his granddaughter Carolina is named after Lara’s home state.
“I was truly so honored to be the co-chair of the RNC through really the most historic election, I think, of any of our lifetimes,” she told Hannity.
She said she and her team “accomplished everything that we set out to do.”
“Likewise, if I am able to serve, I would love to serve the people of Florida,” she continued.
“This is my home state now and has been for three years.
“This is where Eric and I live, and truly to have that opportunity, I think would be incredible.”
Then she touted her credentials as a MAGA candidate.
It comes as senators elected Sen. John Thune (R-SD) as Republican leader on Wednesday.
Republicans chose Thune over more Trump-aligned Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL).
“No one knows better than I do the America First agenda or the goals of Donald Trump in the coming four years,” Mrs. Trump said.
“So if I am asked, I would love to consider it, but I have yet to have a conversation with Governor DeSantis, so we will have to see.”

If and when Rubio steps down, it will be up to Gov. DeSantis to name a replacement to fill out part of his term.
Lara Trump’s husband Eric is a Trump Organization exec who helped run the business during Trump’s first term.
President Trump has not yet revealed how he plans to handle control of his business empire during his forthcoming term.
The choice of Rubio to lead the State Department has received a strong reception from Republicans.
“Leading the U.S. Department of State is a tremendous responsibility and I am honored by the trust President Trump has placed in me,” Rubio wrote Wednesday after the announcement.
“I will work every day to carry out his foreign policy agenda.”
Whoever DeSantis picks to replace Rubio would serve until a 2026 special election.
DeSantis must decide whether to appoint a “caretaker,” someone who would run to maintain the seat, or even himself.
Meanwhile, Lara Trump appears to be a popular choice among prominent Florida Republicans.
Trump loyalist Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) wrote:
“@laraleatrump needs to be the nominated replacement by @govdestantis for Rubio.
“She will keep the seat and avoid a messy primary for FLORIDA.
“Well spoken. Kicked butt on election integrity. Etc.”
Sen. Scott also jumped to get behind the effort to make Lara Trump the junior senator from his state.
“RT if you think @laraleatrump should be Florida’s next Senator!” he posted on X.
