Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) will be working alongside President Donald Trump’s new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Trump has appointed X boss Elon Musk and former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy to lead DOGE.
In response to the incoming department, that seeks to gut federal bureaucracy to slash government waste, the House is establishing a new subcommittee to work with DOGE.
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) announced that Greene will chair the new Delivering on Government Efficiency Subcommittee.
Trump said DOGE will “dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies.”
He asserted that the new Musk-Ramaswamy-led DOGE will give the government an “entrepreneurial approach.”
Comer said the new subcommittee “will align with the Trump administration’s priorities to eliminate government waste, streamline the federal government’s operations, and cut red tape that’s stifling jobs and increasing costs for the American people.”
He added that Trump’s “landslide victory reflects a clear mandate to address inflationary spending that’s driving up the cost of living for hardworking Americans.”
“Wasteful government spending must end, and taxpayers deserve to see their money used effectively and efficiently,” Comer said.
Comer reportedly met with Ramaswamy and Greene recently to discuss the project.
A spokesperson for Ramaswamy, a successful entrepreneur, said:
“A key step to driving greater efficiency in government is exposing the problem to the public — we are grateful that the House Oversight Committee has created a subcommittee to focus on this work.
“We look forward to working together.”
Greene vowed that the new subcommittee would bring “transparency and truth to the American people through hearings.”
In a statement about her new position, Greene said:
“I’m excited to chair this new subcommittee designed to work hand in hand with President Trump, Elon Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy, and the entire DOGE team.
“We will identify and investigate the waste, corruption, and absolutely useless parts of our federal government.”
“No topic will be off the table,” Greene said.
The congresswoman added that she expects the subcommittee “will expose people who need to be fired.”
DOGE will be a commission outside the government that will work with the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).
The department will advise the president on what government bloat can be cut.
Musk, who is famous for employing incredibly efficient small teams at his companies, said he plans to target overregulation and out-of-control spending.
“The world is suffering slow strangulation by overregulation,” the SpaceX and Tesla CEO said in a post on X last week.
“Every year, the noose tightens a little more.
“We’re going to make the spending lower … if we don’t we’re going to bankrupt the country,” Musk said during a town hall in Pennsylvania last month.
DOGE will operate on a deadline.
Trump said it would finish its work by July 4, 2026, the nation’s 250th birthday.
