The Truth About Homosexuality

ST HELENS - First of all, what is homosexuality?
According to the Oxford Dictionaries website, homosexuality is defined as “involving or characterized by sexual attraction between people of same sex.”
The question may be asked, however, if this is truly all there is to it. Could it be more than just an “attraction between people of same sex”? Could it be a sin?
Where did it all start? Is homosexuality something that just started in our present age?
Homosexuality is not something that has just started happening recently in the past hundred years. It started with the one thing that separates God and man, sin. Homosexuality was present when sin entered the world, just like every other sin. Records of homosexuality go back to the days of Sodom and Gomorrah, which scholars estimate to have been around 3100 B.C. These two cities were as the borders of Canaan, as they were well watered places (Genesis 10:19, 13:10) before both cities were destroyed with fire and brimstone.
These two cities were first mentioned in Genesis 10:19, the time when Abram (Abraham) and his nephew Lot were travelling together, but the group got so large, that they decided to split into two different groups as Lot chose to dwell near the city of Sodom. In Genesis 13:13, it said that the people of Sodom were “wicked, great sinners against the Lord”, Lot must have somehow knew that the people of Sodom were sinners before he even entered there. The cities of Sodom and Gomorrah were so corrupt and sinful that God decided to destroy them. Abraham, knowing his mercy and goodness, pleaded with the Lord for the two cities. And the Lord finally said that the cities will be spared if he found ten righteous people.
Meanwhile, the city’s wickedness had been continuing for some time. As the people of Sodom and Gomorrah continued to do evil that the "outcry" caused by these people’s sinfulness had become great according to the Lord in Genesis 18:20 and 19:13. Two angels came into the city of Sodom and asked Abram's nephew Lot if they could spend the night at his house.
During that night, all the men of Sodom, both young and old, surrounded Lot’s house in order to have homosexual relations with the two men (which unknown to the wicked townsmen were angels), but they were stopped by the two angels as they have stricken the townsmen blind, causing them to leave Lot’s house. The angels tell Lot and his family to leave the city of Sodom, because it is going to be destroyed, and to never look back. As the two cities get destroyed, Lot and his family escape, all except for Lot’s wife, as she disobeyed God by looking behind her, seeing the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah burned with fire and brimstone, she turns into a pillar of salt.
What triggered this sinful nature?
What mainly triggered homosexuality is through the one thing that separates God and man, sin. God created a perfect world, but because Adam and Eve sinned and disobeyed God (Genesis 3), it was ruined. As the human population grew, sin only became more and more prevalent.
Jesus said that “whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart” (Matthew 5:28). Since homosexuality is defined as a sexual attraction, it is another form of lust. Thus, Jesus’ statement can be applied to it as well.
Homosexuality rarely stays as a simple same-sex attraction. For many people, it is an addiction. Its addictive nature is clearly shown and even promoted by pornography; television shows like Sexcetera and The Boondocks; yaoi/yuri anime and manga and adult video games. The elements that these works portray are constantly being used to promote a worldly, immoral mindset that millions today are embracing without truly realizing or minding the drastic spiritual and societal consequences attached to it.
What does the Bible say about homosexuality?
In this century, homosexuality is considered normal by many people. Whenever it is mentioned, it is not uncommon to hear someone ask “What’s wrong with two people of the same gender falling in love? Isn’t it normal?” The answers to these questions can be found in none other than the Bible.
Homosexuality is mentioned several times in both the Old and New Testaments. When we read what the Scriptures have to say about same-sex relationships, there is no room for error. The Bible clearly condemns homosexuality. It may be seen as fashionable today, but in God’s eyes it is an “abomination” (Leviticus 18:22). The world considers what God clearly tells is unnatural to be natural (Romans 1:26-27).
Some may argue that God’s law forbidding homosexuality was only for the Old Covenant which God made between Himself and the Israelites. However, a quick search of the Scriptures will show that the New Testament has more verses condemning homosexuality than the Old Testament does.
In the century we live in, people (more especially Christians) are labelled as “homophobes” for not agreeing with homosexuality, which is just foolish mentality.
True Marriage
What is true marriage?
The only way to find the true definition today is to go back to the Bible. It is more essential to believe what God says than what humans think, for true marriage is ordained by God (Genesis 2:18, 22-24). Jesus gave God’s definition of marriage in Mark 10:6-9, when he was speaking about marriage and grounds of divorce. He said that in the beginning ‘God made them male and female.' Marriage is, and always will be, a marital devotion between two parties, a man and a woman, and that’s what every marriage should be. That is the true definition of marriage. God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.
The Consequences of Homosexuality
Homosexuality is just one of the many sinful things that will keep a person from the kingdom of God. This sinful nature is in the same category as fornication, and also adultery, therefore practices of either leave a person condemned. Contrary to popular belief, there are only two places people can go when they die, either Heaven or Hell (Romans 6:23). There is no mention of Purgatory in the Bible.
How can you be free from the power of sin?
God’s forgiveness is just as available to a homosexual as it is to an adulterer, idol worshipper, murderer, fornicator, liar or thief according to the Bible (1 Corinthians 6:9-11). God hates the sin, not the sinner. God promises that if you turn from your sins and put your trust in Him like you trust a parachute, he will save you from the power and punishment of sin. To all those who will believe in Jesus Christ He gives the strength to have victory over sin, which includes homosexuality. For God’s word stands forever (1 Peter 1:25).
Believe in the Lord Jesus. Accept him as you Lord and Saviour. (Acts 16:30-31), and you will be saved.
