OK, first one is a Fishbowl Punch. For those of you who don't drink alcohol, you can substitute Walmart's coconut wave blue soda, or Sprite or ginger ale tinted with blue food coloring.
Fishbowl Punch
The cocktail is basically a slightly-altered Blue Hawaiian – in a fish bowl, with candy. And I am 100% in favor of that. What’s more fun than a giant, yummy, candy-filled drink with a whole lotta straws?
Also love that it’s super easy, can be made (mostly) ahead of time, and has enough of a visual impact that guests won’t notice a few loose ends. Such as, I haven’t swept the patio, and there are a few pokey little weeds coming up over there by the fountain. Not that I’m recommending Fishbowl Punch as a substitute for appropriate yard care, just saying…
This recipe is actually a modified double batch of the recipe that appeared in Maxim. I modified it because the original recipe includes a lot of pineapple juice, AND sweet-and-sour. It was really yellow and just wouldn’t get blue enough. The resulting cocktail was more “Creature from the Black Lagoon” than “Finding Nemo.”
So to remedy that, the pineapple was reduced a touch and a drop of blue food coloring was added. Of course, the recipe is also easily adaptable for your taste, swapping out the coconut rum, or the vodka, or using a fruit-flavored vodka. To make this for the kids, just substitute more soda for the alcohol.
To make the drinks, you’ll need little fishbowls – three of them (4-5 cups volume). I bought mine at a craft store. I found them for only a couple of bucks each in the floral section.
Prepping the fishbowls is the make-ahead part – my favorite part. Mix liquors, sweet-and-sour mix, pineapple juice and soda in a large container. Cover tightly and refrigerate until ready to serve.
To serve, divide the Nerds candy between the three fishbowls. Add ice and arrange the fish around the outside of the fishbowls – use the ice to hold them against the sides.
"]
Carefully add the punch mixture, dividing equally. Top with fruit slices and add straws. Add a little lemon-lime soda for bubbly-ness. Serve immediately! The Nerds candy make adorable faux “gravel” – but their coating melts. This will make your Fishbowl Punch potentially a little murky, unless you drink out of it pronto.

Jelly Shot Gummy Fish Bowl
Need an icebreaker for your next party? Try a fishy bowl of jelly shots!
Your party will surf into high tide when you bring out this convo starter! Gummy fish swim in a sea of gummy-vodka infused gelatin, while edible beach-goers frolic above.
This Jelly Shot Gummy Fish Bowl takes some time, so plan for that, but the comments and smiles are totally worth it! Here’s the play-by-play so you can make your own.
Get Your Stuff Ready
You’ll need a new, 1-gallon plastic fish bowl like this:
Next, have a little play date with some gummy candies! Time and creativity are the only limits here.
Check out the Fruit Roll-Up bikini on the lounging Teddy!
Get Your Wiggles Out
Now it’s time to get into it with some gelatin. You can experiment with different variations, but here’s what I came up with.
Pour 5 cups of water into a large pan. Sprinkle one box of unflavored gelatin and 2 boxes of blue berry-flavored gelatin over the water.
Let it sit a minute, then heat the water while stirring constantly to dissolve all the gelatin granules (about 5 minutes).
Remove from the heat and let it cool down (about 5 minutes). Then Add 3 cups of gummy-flavored vodka. NOT KIDDING. There is such a thing.
Add Vodka to Gelatin
Mix well and pour it into the fish bowl.
Chill Out!
Let the bowl chill in the fridge for a couple hours until the gelatin is mostly set. Using a thin sharp knife, slit the gelatin and slip your sea creatures into the place. Poke ‘em down with a long uncooked spaghetti noodle or wooden skewer.
Place the ones you want to see best up close to the sides, with some further back for shadowy effects.
Then add your beach babes to the top. I lucked out and found a gummy dancing dolphin at a candy store too.
Gummy Candies in Gelatin Fish Bowl
Party !
Remove your fish bowl from the fridge shortly before you plan to serve it, then — after everyone has oooo’d and ahhhhh’d — scoop a couple tablespoons into shot glasses and — down the hatch with the fishes!
Display tip: The fish show up great if they’re back lit, so I put my bowl in front of a window. If your party’s at night, set the bowl on a cake plate in front of a small lamp.
Make it Kid-Friendly
This recipe can easily be made kid-friendly by substituting flat lemon-lime soda for the vodka. Check out the kid-friendly recipe version here.
Instead of a big bowl, you can use 8 stemless plastic wine glasses and make individual portions for the kiddos:
Or, for a fab kiddy party favor, use the same kid-friendly recipe version and pour a cup of gelatin mixture into 8 plastic cupcake bags (found where specialty baking supplies are sold), or sandwich bags, and place them in small bowls in the fridge to stand upright until they’re set.
Then slit the gelatin and add one fish, tie the bag with a ribbon — and you have a little fishy bag that looks like it just came from the pet store!
