I vaguely remember the original movie with Mia Farrow and Robert Redford that came out when I was a teen; it's been a long time since I saw it and read the book, and I didn't really remember the storyline. Well, the movie was being shown at the cheapie theater, and I was bored....so I went to see it. Ladies, it was worth going just to see the lovely fashions! Clothes were so beautiful back then - elegant and beautifully made of quality fabrics. As for the story line - excellent! (But then, would one expect less of F. Scott Fitzgerald?) The casting was very well done, particularly with Leonardo DeCaprio as Gatsby. The movie did a great job of portraying the excesses and the greed of the wealthy...as well as that void that each of them had, that they tried to fill with wild parties, drunkenness, drugs, and sex. Throughout the film I kept thinking, "The world sure has a weird idea of what's fun!" There was no sex, nudity, real violence (apart from some fights), and I can't recall there being any profanity, apart from the mildest sort, if it was there at all. It's worth seeing if you're looking for something to do for a few hours (it's a long movie...but the time flew by) and need to be reminded of the peace and fulfillment you have in Jesus. And OK, OK....I admit it - I got a few ideas of what I'd like in my eternal home from the mansions that were featured in the movie! ;D

I'll have to check it out (even though I'm not a fan of Leonardo DeCaprio). I love 'period' movies, especially the ones portraying the '20's and '30's. The clothing and styles were so lovely back then.

I don't particularly care for Leo either, but he was perfect as Gatsby.
I went back and watched the version from back in the 70s with Mia Farrow and Robert Redford, as it's free for Amazon Prime customers. There were a few differences in the story line, but I have to admit that the newer version was the better of the two....and the fashions were absolutely gorgeous! The ending of the newer version was particularly poignant.
