Explosions Rock Gaza City After Gunmen Launch Deadly Series of Attacks in Israel Near Egyptian Border Published August 19, 2011 Associated Press Gaza militants launched barrages of rockets into Israel early Friday and Israeli aircraft struck targets in the Palestinian territory in the aftermath of the deadliest attack against Israelis in three years. On Thursday, gunmen who appear to have originated in Gaza and who crossed into southern Israel through the Egyptian desert ambushed civilian vehicles traveling on a remote road in southern Israel, killing eight people. Six were civilians, and two were members of Israeli security forces responding to the incursion. White House Condemns 'Brutal' Attacks in Israel The attack signaled a new danger for Israel from its border with the Sinai Peninsula, long quiet under the rule of Egyptian leader Hosni Mubarak. Mubarak was deposed in February and the desert of the Sinai Peninsula -- always restive and largely controlled by Bedouin tribes -- has become increasingly lawless. Israel responded hours after the attack with an airstrike that killed five members of the Palestinian group that Israel said was behind it, an organization known as the Popular Resistance Committees. The dead included the group's leader. A spokesman for the group, Abu Mujahid, would not confirm or deny responsibility for the attack inside Israel, but said militants would avenge the killing of the men. Militants in Gaza launched at least 10 rockets into Israel on Friday, the military said. One, aimed at the city of Ashkelon, was intercepted by the new Israeli anti-missile system known as Iron Dome. Another hit the port city of Ashdod and wounded six Israelis, according to Israeli emergency services. Israel's south has been equipped with early warning systems and bomb shelters over years of rocket fire from Gaza, and those measures have served to keep casualties low. Hamas denied any connection with the attacks, but hurriedly evacuated all of its security facilities Thursday in anticipation of more Israeli retaliation. Those strikes continued through the night, targeting what the military said were smuggling tunnels and sites used by gunmen. Hamas officials said two children, 3 and 13, were killed in the Israeli strikes. Read more: www.foxnews.com/world/2011/08/18/israel-radio-says-second-bus-attacked-by-gunfire/#ixzz1VTt9gDcE

PM Netanyahu Statement Following Today's Events in the South 18/08/2011 Firstly, I would like to express my condolences to the families of the civilians murdered, and to those of the soldiers who fell while responding to today's terrorist attacks. I share their pain. I know that their lives will never be the same. I also want to express my hopes for a speedy recovery to those injured in these attacks and are currently undergoing treatment in hospital. We all witnessed today an attempt to escalate the terrorist war against Israel by launching of attacks from the Sinai. If there is someone who thinks that the State of Israel will let this pass, he is mistaken. I have set out a principle - when the citizens of Israel are attacked, we respond immediately and with strength. That principle was implemented today. Those who gave the order to murder our citizens, while hiding in Gaza, are no longer among the living. I commend the IDF and the security services who eliminated today in Gaza the senior figures of the organization which carried out the terror attacks in the south. I commend the soldiers, police, and members of the security services who acted swiftly, determinately and bravely against the terrorists, and who thereby prevented an even greater tragedy. If the terrorist organizations believe that they can attack our citizens and get away with it, they will soon learn how wrong they are. We will exact a price, a very heavy price. www.pmo.gov.il/PMOEng/Communication/Spokesman/2011/08/spoketguva180811.htm

Sorry, call me bad but I love this line. I saw it yesterday and wanted to cheer out loud. Benj is a MAN!!! On the flip side though it makes me very sad we have such a weenie to "lead" our country. Oh to have a leader like Netanyahu. I also liked his response to Clinton's demand to apologize to Turkey or else. He simply replied "No thanks". You gotta love him!

Hamas called off the so called cease fire today. Not that there was a cease fire to begin with but now its open season. Here's a possible scenario: Violence continues to escalate up to the Sept 20th vote. The vote goes against Israel, the US uses the Turkey excuse to break ties and thus not execute a veto. With the entire region, the UN, EU, Russia now all against Israel and US no longer an ally, things look grim. Sept 21st is "Day of Peace". A peace deal is struck with Israel and "peace and safety" is proclaimed. All just a week before the Feast of Trumpets. Could it be??? I don't know, I'm just sayin'. 1 Thes 5:3 While people are saying "Peace and Safety" destruction will come upon them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. Come Lord Jesus!!!

* * * FLASH TRAFFIC: WASHINGTON UPDATE * * * *
IS A NEW WAR BREWING IN GAZA?: 100+ ROCKETS FIRED AT ISRAEL IN THREE DAYS
By Joel C. Rosenberg (Washington, D.C, August 21, 2011) -- The collapse of the Mubarak regime in Cairo -- and with it an organized, unified, disciplined, centrally controlled Egyptian security and intelligence force -- has created a no man's land in the Sinai desert. This, in turn, has created a fertile environment for Radical Islamic terrorist groups to expand their operations in the Sinai, including smuggling arms into Gaza and training jihadist commandos. Now Israel is beginning to pay the price. Multiple terrorist attacks have occurred in recent days along Israel's southern border with Egypt.
More than 100 rockets, mortars and anti-tank missiles have been fired from Gaza at Israeli towns and cities along the south. A suicide bomber also detonated himself near the Israel-Egyptian border over the weekend. Eight Jews were killed in Thursday's jihadist attacks on an Israeli public bus, and at least 30 were wounded. A rocket hit a home in Beersheva on Saturday night, killing one Israeli and wounded four others. Dozens more Israelis have been hospitalized for shock. Israel has struck back with airstrikes against selected terror targets, but the violence has only escalated. Tragically, Israeli forces accidentally killed two Egyptian border guards during a raid against Gaza militants. Israel quickly apologized, but this has created new tensions between Egypt and the Jewish State. Meanwhile, Palestinian leaders -- who want their own sovereign state beginning next month -- have neither said or done anything to stop the latest attacks.
The question now is obvious: Is a new war brewing in Gaza Strip? Will Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu order the IDF back into the Strip for a ground operation akin to "Operation Cast Lead" in 2009? Vice Prime Minister Silvan Shalom was quoted by Ynet News on Sunday as saying....[to read the rest of this story, and links to numerous news stories, please go to the blog]
