I was listening to this the other day, (on my KJV mp3... link in the media section) and it just struck me as an odd story. I couldn't help thinking there was some masonic symbolism here. I just couldn't put my finger on it. I know bees are often associated with masons, and lions could be referring to the roaring lion seeking whom he may devour... What do you think?
Jdg 14:5 Then went Samson down, and his father and his mother, to Timnath, and came to the vineyards of Timnath: and, behold, a young lion roared against him. Jdg 14:6 And the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and he rent him as he would have rent a kid, and he had nothing in his hand: but he told not his father or his mother what he had done. Jdg 14:7 And he went down, and talked with the woman; and she pleased Samson well. Jdg 14:8 And after a time he returned to take her, and he turned aside to see the carcase of the lion: and, behold, there was a swarm of bees and honey in the carcase of the lion. Jdg 14:9 And he took thereof in his hands, and went on eating, and came to his father and mother, and he gave them, and they did eat: but he told not them that he had taken the honey out of the carcase of the lion.
I've done a little digging on this, and Samson as we all know was a Nazarite, hence the long hair. It would have been breaking his Nazarite vow to eat the honey from the carcass of the lion. Then to give it to his family without telling them... well, since I know what eventually happened to Samson, either he was not very bright, or something else was going on here.
