Looks like I won't be going to the movies any time soon! I know they're almost making that silly, unbiblical book, Heaven is For Real, into a movie as well. All junk - guess I'll just watch old I Love Lucy reruns on Amazon!
The Year of the Unbiblical Bible Movies
Before I dive in to this opinion piece, allow me to tell you, or share with you who I am a bit more. I loved film growing up and after many years in the military, I went into film school for a few years. From there I worked in a production company, working as an editor and assistant director. I did not work on any big films but more independent ones rather. It was within the film community, that I was around the politics and constant backstabbing that went on. I have more wounds on my back than Caesar when Brutus got done with him I must say. That was many years ago and I am sure glad the Lord pulled me out from there. Now, I work as a Graphic Designer and do editing for fellow Christians. The reason I wanted to share this with you was that when writing this opinion piece, I know what I am writing about and not just speculating when it comes to film making and the what goes on behind the camera. Now, this is not a blog about bashing but inquiring and questioning, being analytical and most importantly, above all, holding things up to the Scope of Scriptures.
Now, let us move on, as you know 2014 and even 2015 are looking like the years of the, as what I call the “Unbiblical Bible Movies” Last year, the History Channel hosted the “Bible Series”, produced by reality television producer Mike Burnett and his Roman Catholic wife Roma Downey, who played “Mary” the mother of Jesus in the series. They now have a feature length film called, “Son of God”, which is a two hour condensed version of what you saw on the History Channel. NBC has also jumped on this bandwagon by teaming up with Burnett and Downey called, “A.D.” for a 12 episode miniseries. The series and the upcoming movie are the tip of the spear, sort of. Also coming out is Darren Aronofsky’s Noah. As some of you may know, Aronofsky direct and wrote Black Swan and the Wrestler, which were not Christian in any way but now he takes the Biblical account of Noah and turns it on it’s head. What I mean by that is the director has taken Noah and made him to old environmentalist with nephilim’s and other creatively added things that were not in the Biblical account. Wait, there’s more, TD Jakes, you know our favorite Prosperity Preacher who denies the Trinity has produced the NY Times Best Seller, “Heaven is for Real”, the story about a young boy’s visit to heaven. The film stars Gregg Kinear and I’ll bet TD Jakes has a cameo somewhere in the film, those Prosperity preachers sure love to see themselves everywhere but I digress. Now comes word that Joel Osteen is producing a film called, “Mary”, which as you guest it is about the mother of the Jesus and it is produced by the same people who made Mel Gibson’s the Passion. So, you know with this film it will have strong Roman Catholic Imprints upon it just like the Passion did. Last but not least, there are two, yes two, movies about Moses coming out. Christmas 2014, we will see Christian Bale play Moses and lead his people out of the Bat Cave, I mean Egypt. The other story of Moses will be helmed by Steve Spielberg, no word yet on the casting but it will be a huge production as one can imagine with Spielberg behind the camera.
Okay, let me take a breath here real quick, that was a lot of typing.
So, as you can see, 2014 and 15 will be pretty big with films about the Bible. Here in lies the question, will they be Biblical? Well, historically, perhaps but they will lower God and humanize Him as all unregenerate men do. So, in a nut shell, no but they will have great cinematic effects. For you see, Hollywood is marketing these films to the “Christian Populace”, yet when I say Christian Populace I mean it’s a pretty broad stroke here. Yet let me stop here and explain. I believe that a film can be made that is Biblical but by not of these men above but by real Believers who understand the Word of God. An unregenerate man can read the Bible and know it intellectually but his eyes are not truly open to the truth and so these men who make these films will remove what they do not like and add what they deem is right, thus adding a human, man centered corrupt idea. It is already been seen with Noah, the director has changed and added what he desires and well, if you had seen the interview with Russell Crow, who doesn’t believe, than you know what I am taking about.
There is another agenda here with these films and it is simply to discredit God and His Word by maligning it to fit the ideas of men. Plain and simple, these directors and Hollywood hate God for who He really is and so, what they do is create, re-write what they believe and sell it to millions of people. Thus, Satan, works his magic on unbelievers and those who are involved in false movements. Now, sadly, many, churches will promote the film as some will stand against them and rightfully so. I am not saying don’t see these films but saying, be on guard, be alert because Discernment will be very much needed but also, this will be a great time to explain the real Biblical account to people who approach us and ask us. We will have the opportunity to present the real story of the Bible and tell about how the whole Bible is about Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior.

So, in conclusion, be on guard and let us tell the real story to those that ask us about these films. Lord willing we will have the time to share the Gospel with those that ask. I will be covering more on these films when they come and work on commentaries for you all to answer any questions.
