strange incident in Florida recently

This was not reported in any of the mainstream news that I'm aware of.
I was visiting my parents in Southern Florida a couple of weeks ago and they mentioned a strange incident that took place in that town (Hutchingson Island, Florida) a week before I arrived. While my parents were out and about running errands, they got held up in traffic. They thought maybe there had been an accident or something. Finally an hour or so later traffic started moving again. Once my parents got home, they turned on the news to find out what happened and the local news said there had been a man in his car in front of the elementary school blaring out this obscene hip hop music and the school called the police to remove him. This was about the time the kids were let out to go home. When the police arrived, the man pulled a gun out and the police shot him (he died on the scene). Now my question is, what the heck was he doing there in front of a school with a gun in the first place? And why with all the school shootings and stuff wasn't this reported in the news? I know this is a small hick town but even so! I've looked, there isn't anything local or otherwise reporting this incident. My parents said not another word was said about it on the local news. Its like it never happened.
