Is anyone decluttering?

I'm trying to keep my house from becoming a mess, and for several years now have made it a habit to set aside a box where I toss things I don't need or want any longer. When the box becomes full, it goes to a thrift shop that benefits local animal shelters.
Sometimes circumstances motivate me to get rid of even more stuff. For example, I had a garage full of dozens of boxes of clothing that I had planned to sell on eBay before their fees went through the roof. I did give some things to friends who could use them, but there was still an awful lot left...much of it now scattered all over the garage. After the local tornado outbreak last year there were plenty of people who lost everything, and it felt good to be able to help them out. In fact, it forced me to stand back and really think about what I could easily afford to share - did I need a dozen sets of dishes when some people had none?
Sometimes I'm hesitant to part with something even though I know I won't ever use it, then imagine Jesus is standing there and says gently, "I could really use that." Well, He did say if we did it for the least of our brethren, we did it for Him....so I can never say no.
It's nice to have a house that's neat and tidy - as well as a nice, clean garage - I can even fit my car in there now!
What about the rest of you? Do you purge regularly, or do you have some other system? Is there a favorite charity you like to help out? I know a lot give to Goodwill, but they really overcharge in their thrift shops (at least locally) and I've never known someone they've helped personally, so I don't donate to them.
