BREAKING: This State Just Shut Down the Feds’ Attempt to Make Them Bow Down to Shariah Law
Add another notch to the list of states that have stood up to Shariah, this time in the land of potatoes and blue Astroturf.
Legislators in Idaho have struck down a federal measure that they say could lead to the state being forced to apply decisions made in Shariah courts overseas.
The logjam began when state Sen. Sheryl Nuxoll, a Republican, testified that coming into compliance with the federal regulations could lead to application of Shariah within the state.
The treaty in question is the Hague Convention on International Recovery of Child Support and Family Maintenance, of which there are 80 signatories. To get federal child support funding, each state must pass child support legislation that recognizes this treaty.
Sen. Nuxoll acknowledged that none of the signatories to the plan were currently under Shariah law. However, she pointed out that many of the countries informally acknowledge Shariah courts and their decisions, especially in the European Union.
All EU members are signatories to the Hague Convention.
In the end, the Rules Committee voted 9-8 against introducing the compliance bill, according to The Washington Times.
It’s worth pointing out the state’s stand against Shariah comes at tremendous risk — the Obama administration has pressed the states to ratify the treaty by threatening to withhold all child support funding if they don’t.
“This is a new experience for Idaho,” the Idaho Health and Welfare Department said in a statement. “We have been told the federal support for Idaho’s Child Support Program will end if Idaho is not in compliance.”
While child support decisions are administered on a state level, they require federal tools for collection — generally out of the paychecks of parents, which accounts for 80 percent of child support payments.
Given the possibility of backdoor application of Shariah law in the United States, it’s time for the Obama administration to stop playing games with child support and allow the states to choose for themselves whether they want to be a part of the Hague Convention.
We need to stand up and support Idaho before it’s too late — not just for them, but for all of us.
