He hasn't been eating, has lost weight, and this morning had a bloody nose. Headed to the vet in a bit...
He's one of the best cats I've ever had, and I've had him longer than I've ever had any other one - over ten years.
Thanks.

Well, my sweet Gideon needs lots and lots of prayer. We spent several hours at the vet, and he has a lot of problems. For one thing, he's gone from 12 pounds at his last visit to 7 1/2 in a very short time, he has an ear infection, is somewhat dehydrated, and the membranes in his eyes are turning yellow. His breath is also bad, which is a sign of another problem; all this came on very quickly. He got an antibiotic injection, and I have drops for his ears. Seems that he's far more prone to flea infestations than most cats, so even with flea meds that I've been giving him, he still has them badly. (Even the vet commented that they don't bother some cats and dogs at all, and others just get eaten up.) She gave him Capstar to kill the fleas on him immediately, and also a heavy-duty product (can't think of the name) that's supposed to work for a month. Best case scenario is he has a parasite infection of some kind which is causing most of the problems; worst case is a liver problem. Although most of the tests she ran in the office (for leukemia, FIP, heartworm, etc.) are negative, the blood for those tests had to be sent out and we won't know what the root cause is until Monday at the earliest, but he's getting meds for the parasite infection anyway.
Meanwhile I have a bag full of mediations (several knds of pills, liquid, ear drops, food supplement) and a chart to keep track of them all, as well as special food that I have to give him via syringe until he feels like eating again - hopefully when the meds start to lick in. It's amazing how strong he is despite everything - he sure tries to fight me off when I medicate him; I have to wrap him in a towel like a mummy!
I love all my furbabies, but every now and then an extra special one comes along, and Gideon is one of them - please keep him in prayer.
I've had Gideon for 10-11 years, and he was an adult when I got him from a shelter, so I have no idea of how old he really is. The vet did find that he has a microchip; I wonder what happened to his previous owner? I can't imagine giving up such a wonderful cat - even people who don't like cats love Gideon.

Gideon isn't sick anymore; he's home in heaven with his Lord and Creator...and a very, very big chunk of my heart. See you again soon, sweet little buddy...
