In Australia, there’s a bat hospital that takes care of abandoned baby bats Inigo del Castillo Contributor
In Atherton, Australia, nurses and doctors lovingly take care of abandoned babies until they are big enough to fend for themselves. Though we’re not talking about human babies here, we’re talking about baby bats!
At the Tolga Bat Hospital, fruit bat pups sick with tick paralysis or abandoned by their dying/dead mothers, are treated back to full health. Volunteers release their fruit-sucking patients into the wild after they’ve been given a clean bill of health. The hospital is also home to retired bats who have been raised in captivity.
Normally, you wouldn’t see the words ‘cute’ and ‘bat’ in the same sentence – or even paragraph for that matter. But today, I think we’ll make an exception. You can see more photos from photographer Jurgen Freund’s website.
