Let's welcome Fall with a warm, bright sweater!
Some simple details and bold colors make a stylish garment
We all know Koigu colors are eye-catching and exciting. But you might not know
about a little trick that makes a big impact.
Holding two different variegated colorways at a time creates a lovely tweedy
effect that can make your chosen colors have an even more interesting look.
We've chosen eight pairs of colors and knitted them in wide bands.
Then we added that idea to a comfy, roomy, chic, long tunic with the added touch
of a big front pocket.
We didn't want complicated shaping or fancy stitches to distract from the strong
colors, so we chose to make a garment with straight sides, rolled hems and a
wide foldover neck.
Then we put the pieces together with raglan sleeves.
This time, we want you think about using selvedge stitches at the edges of the
pieces of your garments. A selvedge is an extra stitch that isn't part of the stitch
pattern itself.
It makes a neat edge that curls less while you're working and makes sewing the
parts together much easier.
Here we used an easy formula: on every row, you knit the first stitch through the
back loop and slip the last stitch purlwise, with the yarn in front.
This makes a smooth outside edge with elongated loops that are easy to see and
to seam.
When it comes to sewing up, you can draw the needle through one loop on one
side, from the left piece toward the seam and then from the right piece to the seam.
This makes a join that is very neat and flat and almost disappears.
You'll find photos illustrating this below.
So go grab lots of gorgeous colors and pair them, using pairs that only share a little
common color and make this very fun, very satisfying Fall Tunic!
We'd also love to see it made in a series of cool neutrals or a group of quiet yellows,
soft pinks and a hint of aqua.
Our lovely model is fairly petite and is wearing the smallest size, with about 10"
positive ease.
