Two-year-old rescue cat Lala appeared to have a change of heart and let her catch go.

These amazing pictures show a mouse escape from the jaws of certain death - by drumming up a friendship with a hungry cat.

The lovable little field mouse looked as though he was about to give his last squeek as he was clamped in the mouth of moggy Lala.

But in a scene which could have come straight from the cartoon Tom and Jerry, the two-year-old feline then dropped its dinner on the grass and began to nuzzle it gently.

It can only be assumed the cat felt sorry for the furry friend as they began to play for 20 minutes.

Lala’s owner Paul Mealey, from Westport, Ireland, who took these photos of them in his garden, said that afterwards the mouse scampered off unscathed.
