Rancher Bids $60,000 to Get a $12,000 Police Car… What He Did Next Dropped Every Jaw in the RoomKim Smith November 23, 2015 at 11:15pm Colorado rancher Steve Wells recently attended a police auction and paid $60,000 for a car worth about $12,500, but it’s what he did next that is making him known as the rancher with a big heart. On Wednesday, Wells attended an auction where Deputy Sam Brownlee’s 2010 Dodge Charger was on the block. Brownlee was killed in the line of duty in 2010. Brownlee’s son, Tanner, who was 15 when his father died, also attended the auction in hopes of buying his father’s car. Tanner, along with his brother, had little money to bid, but they were hoping for the best since the car would be one of only a few things they would have to remember their father. “Realizing how much this car meant to him, I understand it now, and I want to keep that and hold onto it,” Tanner told KSDK. When the car went up for auction, the brothers were outbid. That’s when Wells stepped into action and quickly outbid everyone in the room with a price of $60,000. It seemed like a monumental price to pay for a vehicle worth not more than $13,000. However, it was Well’s following actions that proved to be invaluable when he turned and gave Brownlee the keys to the car. “Tanner, here’s your car,” he said. The gesture moved Brownlee and just about everyone is else in the room to tears. In addition, the proceeds of the auction went to the Concerns of Police Survivors organization, which supports families of officers killed in the line of duty. Check out the video here. The big moment is about the 5:30 mark. Video at link
