Furious Vladimir Putin warned Turkey will face consequences after downing the jet
An insider sensationally claimed the doomed jet had flown back after a brief incursion into Turkey's zone.
Turkish authorities claimed the pilots dismissed 10 warnings in five minutes before the aircraft was blasted out of the sky in the northern Syrian Turkman mountains.
However according to the US source, an assessment of the jet's heat signature indicates it was inside neighbouring Syria's airspace at the time of the shooting - supporting the claims of Russian president Vladimir Putin.
