This is particularly interesting in light of the Malachy prophecies. They're not Biblical, but thus far have been 100% correct. There's also the fact that Benny is 86, and not in the best of health. Vatican Fears Assassins May Target Pope in 2012 - PaperPope Benedict XVI An assassination attempt against Pope Benedict XVI may be carried out before November 2012, Italian Il Fatto Quotidiano daily reported on Friday, citing a confidential document that was delivered to the Holy See in January by Colombian Cardinal Dario Castrillon Hoyos. The letter, written in German, cites Cardinal Paolo Romeo, the Archbishop of Palermo, who said during his visit to China in November 2011 that “the Pope will die” in the next 12 months, Il Fatto Quotidiano said. It is not known who stands behind the letter, the daily said. Father Federico Lombardi, the Director of the Holy See Press Office on Friday denounced the media report, calling it “ramblings that cannot be taken seriously.” The previous Pope, John Paul II, survived a 1981 assassination attempt, although he was shot and gravely wounded by his attacker, Turkish national Mehmet Ali Agca. In 2006 an Italian parliamentary commission accused former Soviet leaders and the Bulgarian secret service of being behind the assassination plot. Ali Agca was released in 2010 from jail after almost 30 years in Italian and Turkish prisons. en.rian.ru/world/20120210/171249830.html

It will be interesting to see if when the rapture happens...whoever the current pope is at the time actually goes in the rapture. Of course there are a lot of unsaved catholics(most of them)...but there are also saved catholics. It's been speculated by some that the rapture would happen while the second to last pope is still alive...so the last one(which is supposed to be evil)...can take over and be a part of AC's top team. But if benedict dies....then what?

Frankly, I think the Pope has about as much chance of being raptured as Obama or Pelosi, unless they repent!
More likely when Benny or Peter Romanus is left behind after the rapture, it will be used to discredit it - most of the sheeple think the pope is a good, "godly" man, and wouldn't believe God would leave him behind.

I don't know that a Catholic could be saved and remain in the Catholic church... I mean the whole system is built on pagan idolatry, and any saved person would surely be repulsed by that, don't you think?

Shanno, my disagreement with that comes from the book of revelation. Revelation 2:12-17 12 “And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write, ‘These things says He who has the sharp two-edged sword: 13 “I know your works, and where you dwell, where Satan’s throne is. And you hold fast to My name, and did not deny My faith even in the days in which Antipas was My faithful martyr, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells. 14 But I have a few things against you, because you have there those who hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality. 15 Thus you also have those who hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate. 16 Repent, or else I will come to you quickly and will fight against them with the sword of My mouth.
17 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give some of the hidden manna to eat. And I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written which no one knows except him who receives it.”’
The church at pergamos is representative of the catholic church in so many ways. And yet there is a promise to those who overcome WITHIN that church(or prophetically that church era). It does show that a catholic can be an overcomer and can be saved. However...with all of the church options available today...is it likely they would stay? I've met several catholics who were much more evangelical, but remained in the catholic church. They could easily articulate to me why they were saved...by the grace of God and the shed blood of Jesus Christ(not mary) for the remission of sins. So it's not that hard to believe....but it is hard. And truth be told...that same statement could be said for most churches. Every church has good and bad in it....every church has false doctrine, and has things to overcome.

Yes but the Catholic church has some very specific guidelines that Catholics must believe to be considered a part of that church, namely that the pope is infallible, and is God, the Eucharist, they teach that you are saved by sacraments, and works, their belief in purgatory etc. How could a saved person stay within the church knowing this? These are clearly unbiblical doctrines, and in fact some of them are downright blasphemous... I seriously question that the Jesus they are meeting in the Catholic church is the true Jesus Christ, in fact I think it is a false imitation jesus.

I agree shanno. I think the overwhelming majority are not saved. But i have met catholics that i'm very sure are. It's rare....but it happens.

God can do anything... He can use anything to reach people. I'm not totally disputing that there may be some saved Catholics, it's just that a saved person would remain in the Catholic church is bewildering to me.

I was raised Catholic, and the Holy Spirit led me out after I was born again. It didn't happen overnight - in fact, when I was first saved, in my desire to draw closer to Jesus, I got more involved in it - daily Mass, rosaries, marathon novenas, etc. But bit by bit, I saw more and more things that were wrong with that "church," and finally left it altogether.
I think anyone who is involved in the RCC and gets saved will eventually see the truth and leave. OTOH, there may be many who consider themselves Catholic only because their parents, grandparents, etc. were Catholic, but who are totally uninvolved in it, aren't familiar with their way-out teachings, and genuinely love the Lord.
