Wearing a Donald Trump hat violates school dress code; hijab or sombrero doesn't
By Ethel C. Fenig
An Arab, a Mexican, and an American student walk into an American school. They are all nine years old. Aisha, a recent officially designated Muslim immigrant refugee from Syria, although it can't be proven, is wearing a hijab and burka (headscarf, face covering, and long gown) on which are inscribed in Arabic and English, "Jihad! Jihad! Death to infidels!" Javier, an illegal alien from Mexico who crossed the border with his older brother two months ago, is decked out in a sombrero with a Mexican flag stuck in it; he is also wearing a t-shirt with large Spanish and smaller English lettering stating, "Make America Mexico Again." Blond Logan, born in America to parents born in America, sports a red cap with the words "Make America Great Again" and a Donald Trump autograph on the front.
The school administrators and teacher smile at the first two children, welcoming them to the school while gloating at their politically correct tolerance, thrilled that these students improve the school's diversity. But then they see Logan. Frowning, they pull him aside, ordering him to remove his hat because of its hateful message that could trigger harmful life-threatening emotions in the other children, which might justifiably compel them to beat up on Logan. If Logan refuses to remove his cap, he will be punished, the educators promise.
Well, okay – the first two incidents didn't quite happen this way, or when they do, they are considered not newsworthy, but praiseworthy. But shockingly – well, okay, again, maybe not so shockingly – the latter incident occurred when school administrators in Fresno, California forced nine-year-old Logan Autry to remove his red Donald Trump hat. For his own good, of course. And for the good of the other culturally diverse, sensitive students in the school. If not, Logan would be forced to leave the school.
A third-grader said he’s standing up for his First Amendment rights after he left school early Thursday because administrators ordered him to remove his pro-Donald Trump hat.
Logan Autry’s family took him out of Powers-Ginsburg Elementary School early Thursday amid controversy over his red “Make America Great Again” hat — signed by the presumptive Republican presidential nominee himself, a local ABC News affiliate reported. Logan had worn the hat several days in a row during recess and more and more classmates started picking on him.
“I still want to keep my hat. It’s not the hat that draws attention, it’s just my personality that the other children do not like,” Logan told ABC News in a tearful interview.
School administrators determined the hat was causing a safety concern on campus and instructed Logan to take it off, which he refused.
“The vice principal came up to me and told me to take my hat off because it brings negative attention from other students. And I said no a few times and then the principal told me again and I still said no and refused,” he said. (snip)
The Fresno Unified School District said in a statement that administrators acted appropriately.
Would the school district have agreed that the administrators acted appropriately if they had ordered young Aisha and little Javier to also remove and replace their incendiary clothing? If Logan taunted Aisha and Javier for their headgear and its sayings, who would have been punished, who comforted? If Aisha or Javier had beaten up Logan, who would have been punished, who comforted?
Awwww, you know the answers.
Yep, one anti-Trump riot, one incident like this at a time turns formerly undecided voters to Donald Trump. And the isolated elite commentariat still don't understand why.
