It's sad that people just share these silly stories without bothering to check them out. Like Abraham Lincoln always said, "Just because you read it on the internet, it doesn't mean it's true!"
Has Obama really refused to leave office if Trump gets elected?
9th September 2016 by thatsfake.com
Claim: President Obama has confirmed that he will refuse to leave the office of the presidency if Donald Trump is elected president.
Originated from: The Burrard Street Journal
Date(s) active: Sept 2016
FALSE.
Claims that President Barack Obama has told a CNN reporter that he will refuse to leave office if Republican nominee Donald Trump should win the 2016 presidential election are spreading online. The story links back to an article on the Burrard Street Journal. That article claims that Obama has stated that he is even prepared to barricade himself in the White House to stop Trump entering.
Barack Obama has sensationally told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer that he will NOT vacate the Oval office if Donald J. Trump is elected the 45th President of the United States.
The current president claims he is “fully prepared” to ignore the popular vote if it means stopping Trump, having found what he believes is a little known loophole that would allow him to remain in charge until a re-election is called.
“As president, I must do what I feel is in the best interests of our nation,” he explained. “If the American people elected ‘the Donald’ then I will be forced to take whatever actions I deem necessary.”
Despite the story being shared widely on social media and various far-right blogs, it is entirely false. Many of those sharing the story have correctly identified the story as a satirical piece, yet many appear to have taken the story at face value, possibly only choosing to read the headline without delving too much into the actual story itself which clearly spirals into nonsense, especially after the assertion that Obama claimed he’d file a motion of no confidence against the American public.
Needless to say, the story is completely fictitious. Obama has made no such claims. If there was ever any lingering doubt as to the story’s authenticity (or lack thereof) then a disclaimer can be found on the site that published the story – Burrard Street Journal – that outs the entire site as satire –
All burrardstreetjournal.com, FM News or FM Football News articles are satirical and entirely fabricated.
Any resemblance to the truth is purely coincidental, except for all references to sports personalities and/or celebrities, in which case they are based on real people, but still based almost entirely in fiction.
Summary – the story is not true at all.
