So if you haven't ever studied mormonism...there is a lot of controversy. Especially over the fact that they don't believe in the same Jesus we do. They'll tell you they do when they come to your door...and try to agree with you on some things...but they'll continue to pivot towards the book of mormon as a necessity. So i was reading that a friend went onto the LDS website awhile back because he had some questions. I've been there before, but never spent much time on it. I thought I'd go back to see what exactly is different about their Jesus...using THEIR OWN WORDS. So the following is directly from www.lds.org
Jesus Christ Is the Way
More than anything else, God wants to help us through this life and bless us with eternal life in the next. He sends His Spirit to offer us this help. But the scriptures say that His Spirit cannot be with us if we are sinful. As hard as we try to live good lives, we all commit sins that separate us from God.
Being separated from God by sin is called spiritual death. We feel a profound loneliness when we separate ourselves from God, our Heavenly Father.
How can we overcome spiritual death and always have God’s Spirit with us if we are imperfect?
God Provided a Savior
Heavenly Father chose His Son, Jesus Christ, in our pre-earth life and sent Him to earth to be our Savior.
If we believe in Jesus Christ, follow His teachings, and repent when we commit sins, His Atonement, or sacrifice, can wash us clean of our sins and make us worthy to return to God’s presence. Christ’s sacrifice and Resurrection also allow us to overcome physical death. Every one of us will be resurrected just like Christ was and live forever in perfected bodies after we leave this life.
We Have to Do Our Part
Each of us will be resurrected and overcome physical death regardless of what we do in this life. But we have to do our part to overcome spiritual death.
To be forgiven of our sins, we need to repent and increase our faith in Jesus Christ throughout our lives. We will not be saved simply because we get baptized or say we believe in Jesus Christ. It takes work, but the work we do doesn’t only prepare us for heaven, it blesses us in this life too.
Our families will be happier, we’ll get along better with others, and we’ll feel more peace during hard times when we live according to Jesus Christ’s teachings.
He Is Our Friend
The gospel of Jesus Christ gives us hope. Through Him, and only through Him, we can have everything Heavenly Father wants to give us. He is our Savior and our friend. He is our teacher and our perfect example. The closer we stay to Jesus Christ, the better we’ll be able to face life’s challenges.
I want you to notice a couple of PARTICULAR things. One, they don't use scripture to back up what they are saying. They simply assert their doctrines. The second thing is that they believe we all pre-existed...as in actually dwelt with God before we came to earth. This of course is false. Did God know us before we were born? Yes, because He exists outside of time....but nowhere does the word of God suggest that we actually dwelt with Him and lived before we came to earth.
Then we get to the sin business. Like christianity, they believe that sin separates us from God. However, they do NOT believe in a single moment....an experience in which we have faith in Jesus' death on the cross....and that that is sufficient. They believe that if you don't confess your sins every time you sin...then you can't be saved. What does the bible say about this? 1 John 1:9 makes it clear that as BELIEVERS we are to confess our sins, because we are His CHILDREN. It does NOT say that we LOSE our salvation if we fail to confess our sins. This statement below is particularly desturbing.
"We will not be saved simply because we get baptized or say we believe in Jesus Christ."
Believing in Jesus apparently isn't sufficient. Then it goes on to say:
" It takes work, but the work we do doesn’t only prepare us for heaven, it blesses us in this life too. "
Apparently they've never read Ephesians chapter 2. Works are a RESULT of salvation...not the WAY to salvation.
Paul warned us that if anyone comes preaching another gospel....to let him be accursed. Don't be fooled by the false gospel of mormonism.
