"Death by Chocolate" Brownies
Brownies:
6 oz (about a cup) of semi-sweet chocolate. Try to find at least 70% cocoa chocolate.
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup white granulated sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
2 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla
1 cup flour
1/2 tsp salt (Use 1/4 tsp if you are using salted butter)
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Assorted chocolate candies and 4-5 flat chocolate bars.
Ganache:
4oz semi sweet chocolate
4 tbsp cream or milk
2 tbsp butter
Melt the cup of butter and place in a large mixing bowl.
Whisk in the sugar and blend in eggs and vanilla.
Stir in flour and salt.
Stir in 1/2 cup chocolate chips.
Line an 8x8" baking dish with aluminium foil and lightly grease the foil.
Pour half the brownie batter in the bottom of the pan and arrange the flat chocolate bars over the top.
Top with remaining brownie batter.
Bake at 350F for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the top layer of brownie near the center comes out with just a few moist crumbs. If you push the toothpick all the way down you will get melted chocolate from the chocolate bars. You can also place the tooth pick near the edge to test them.
Let brownies cool.
Heat the 2 tbsp butter and cream over medium heat on the stove or in the microwave until cream is simmering.
Pour this hot cream mixture over the chocolate chips and allow to sit for 2-3 minutes. Stir until smooth and shiny.
Pour ganache over cooled brownies and decorate with chocolate candy pieces.
Place in refrigerator until ganache sets. Remove and cut into pieces.
Store at room temperature in a covered container.
