Vampire killer drank blood and ate flesh of his two victims BEFORE killing them

A court in Germany today sentenced a vampire killer to life imprisonment for murdering two teenagers whose blood he drank and whose flesh he ate while they were still living.
Identified only as a petty thief called Jan O, 26, he admitted the murders of a girl called Nina, 14, outside the town of Bodenfeld in November last year. He killed her friend Tobias, 13, five days later at almost the same spot.
Judge Ralf Günther also committed him to psychiatric treatment and ordered that he be subject to preventative detention - a rare move that means he can only ever be released if a panel of experts judge him sane - but in effect he will almost certainly die behind bars.
His murders shocked Germany. Günther described the crimes as 'excessively violent' and 'a just about unimaginable dimension of injustice.'
At his trial in the university city of Goettingen, prosecutor Jens Mueller told how Jens O. wanted to rape Nina - but instead 'vampiristic and cannibalistic tendencies' were triggered in him.
Before she was dead he chewed off parts of her face and drank her blood from a neck wound.

'When she was on the ground I didn't want sex any more but only flesh and blood,' he wrote in his police confession. 'The taste of it made me addicted.'
He returned several times to the corpse with his mobile phone and filmed himself lying next to his victim, stroking her constantly.
He killed Tobias days later and defiled his body in the same way. He later told police that he mistook Tobias for a girl because of his long hair.
Both youngsters were strangled, stabbed with a knife and cut with a beer bottle.

Just a day after killing Tobias, he approached a girl in a car park and asked for her phone number. Suspicious, she obtained his number from him, then left and alerted the police.
During the trial, he apologised to the children’s families and expressed remorse, saying, 'I don’t know what came over me.'
In the 1920s Peter Kürten, a German serial killer, was dubbed The Vampire of Düsseldorf by the Press. He committed a series of sex crimes, assaults and murders against adults and children.
Peter Lorre played a part based on Kürten in Fritz Lang's M, his first major starring role. Although he had been a comic actor before, he was typecast as a villain for years after.
