Watched it last night...I wanted to see what all the hoopla was about. It was a pretty decent movie, great action, good story and it had some really funny parts in it that made me totally laugh out loud. Kind of dragged out in the end but all in all a great little movie. It also had a wonderful message for all you dads out there.

I heard it was a good movie, but a movie about good dads doesn't appeal to people who've had an abusive father...just another knife in the heart, as to something you never had.

Well that's the thing...some of them weren't such good fathers. One of the messages was that having an abusive or absentee father is no excuse to become a bad father themselves. Plus also that one should forgive these fathers. Being unforgiving and holding onto bitterness is not the way to go.

Oh, I forgive my father...he's dead and can't hurt me anymore. I don't know where he is - I broke off contact with my so-called "family" many years ago, but did send him an envelope with some tracts in it. Who knows if he read them, or took them to heart? (They were all Catholic.) Funny, but you forget physical abuse...I mean, you remember that you were beaten, but the pain is a distant memory. Words like, "Why don't you go out and get laid and get the hell out of my way" hurt as much more than 30 years later as they did when they were first said. Sometimes I wonder - does God love those of us who never had loving parents less than He does those who do?

No of course not.
I don't know why some people get the short end of the stick in the parents department while others have wonderful parents and go on to live such charm lives. It isn't fair. But God doesn't love those with horrible parents any less than those with wonderful parents. The thing the movie is trying to say is that even though one may have a horrible father doesn't mean they have to be horrible fathers themselves.

I tell my kids you have 2 fathers one that lives with them in this world we are visiting the pther is one who loves you also and sees and watches everything you do just as I do BUT HE knows your heart and knows what you are thinking. He sees everything you do so remember you can lie to me but God knows your heart.... which is not fair for us parents since God can see their heart and know what they did He has an unfair advantage by the way my boys and I LOVED the movie and it is all about the bad and the good parents and the light of God in the middle
