Someone invented a collar that gives cats a human voice so we can understand them better

Please tell me this is a joke...
The Temptations Catterbox project is a 3D-printed collar created to translate cats’ meows and purrs into human voice. The goal apparently is to understand them better. Or at least to think we do. It’s been promoted as the world’s first taking cat collar.
It was a team work between the Temptations pet food brand, the London ad agency Adam&Eve/DDB and the production house Acne. The collar contains a microphone, a speaker, Bluetooth technology and Wi-Fi, which allow cat’s sounds to be recorded, processed, analyzed and translated into human speech.
It is coated in rubber lacquer for the cat’s comfort and it comes in four colors. It is connected through a Smartphone app that can allow you to choose the voice you want for your cat. The Temptations Lab™ was created in 2015 “to inject some serious fun into cat’s lives (…) We believe that if people understood cats better they’d see just how awesome they are”. According to the Temptations global brand director, Pete Simmons: “Through research, we learned that an adult cat’s meow is their way to communicate with humans and, by investing in this prototype device, we can start to improve understanding between them both—giving cats a voice for the very first time.”
The intention is definitely good. People should definitely see how amazing creatures cats are. But let’s put some reality here and see it from the cat’s perspective. How do you think your cat will feel to have a collar strapped around his/her neck with a speaker that produces a loud human voice every time he/she makes a sound? Whoever knows cats can easily answer that: stressed! If we want to get to know cats better to have a better relationship with them, stressing them out is not the answer. They are not some lab rats to experiment on for our fun.
I believe the best way to actually know cats better is to share stories that show how many different sides they have and how can they behave in different situations. We’ve seen cats that adopt lambs and foster them, we’ve seen healing and nurse cats, adventure and outdoor cats, faithful cats that travel long distances to be reunited with their humans, cats recognizing their lost human family after years. We’ve learned how they show their love and how different they are from dogs but how sweet and cuddly in their own way they can also be. And let’s face. We will never completely understand them but that’s ok. There’s more magic in their mystery…
