It's almost 100 degrees out, so I sought refuge in the dollar theater! ;D
First I saw Chernobyl Diaries. I don't quite know what I expected, but the story was about six young people who sign up for an "extreme tour" that's offered by a Russian former special forces soldier. They're given the opportunity to explore the ghost town around Chernobyl, where everything was left "as is" when people fled for their lives. The scenes were interesting, but they were only recreations - not the real thing. Apparently some life forms mutated or whatever, attacked the group, killing some..... It was "just OK," although it was peppered with F bombs; someone needs to get those young people a dictionary so they can learn some new adjectives. Review in one word: "Meh."
I noticed that The Raven - titled after the Edgar Allen Poe poem of the same name - was also playing, so after having a free lunch (I had a coupon), I went back to see it. Very interesting story line: someone committed a series of gruesome murders based on Poe's stories, and he was brought into the investigation in the hopes that he could figure out how the murderer's mind worked. The woman he loved was kidnapped by the murderer, and Edgar had to fight against time to save her life. It's rated R because of a few gruesome scenes, but if you're a CSI fan they're no worse than what you've seen on that show. On the whole, the story was rather enjoyable and a good way to spend a couple of hours - especially if you enjoy Poe's style of fiction.

Meh. lol J/K. ;D I've seen the pre-views of Chernobyl Diaries and it's not something I would want to watch but The Raven looked interesting...I used to love these type of mysteries anyway. And besides, who can resist Edgar Allen Poe?
