CHINA SUSPENDS PARLIAMENT MEETING FOR FIRST TIME IN DECADES
Coronavirus outbreak forcing drastic measures in Beijing Sputnik - FEBRUARY 24, 2020 6 Comments China Suspends Parliament Meeting For First Time in Decades China decided to postpone the annual meeting of its parliament, due in March, for the first time since the Cultural Revolution, as the country is fighting the coronavirus outbreak, according to state media. According to CCTV, a state broadcaster, the new date for the parliament meetings, which usually last for 10 days, would be set later and the meeting would not be postponed for too long. Earlier in the day, six Chinese provinces have lowered their coronavirus emergency response measures from the highest level, local health authorities reported. According to the statements, the provinces of Guangdong and Shanxi were lowered from the highest level I to level II. Meanwhile, the provinces of Liaoning, Guizhou, Yunnan and Gansu lowered their response levels to level III. On Sunday, authorities in 21 regions of China reported that on 22 February, not a single new case of infection with a new coronavirus was recorded on their territory. COVID-19 was first detected in the Chinese city of Wuhan, located in the Hubei province, in late December and has since spread to more than 25 countries. The outbreak has already left over 76,000 people infected worldwide and resulted in more than 2,300 fatalities. Video at link

The man speaking in the video, Guo Wengui, also known as Miles Kwok, is a Chinese billionaire who fled China in 2014. He is known to work with Steve Bannon toward their common goal of "bringing about the demise of the Chinese Communist Party."
For the critics: we have known of the 40 mobile incinerators in Wuhan for about a week. The rest is just math.
Regarding the 30 million figure, that is just the max capacity of the incinerators China ordered. No one is saying China is going to burn that many bodies every day.

Desperate to stop virus’ spread, countries limit travel
By KIM TONG-HYUNG and MATT SEDENSKY 23 minutes ago SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — Officials scrambled Tuesday to halt the spread of the burgeoning new virus, from northern Italy where troops were dispatched to enforce quarantines and schools were shuttered, to South Korea, where some neighborhoods in a city of 2.5 million were brought to a near standstill. New clusters of the illness popped up far from its apparent point of origin in China, fueling apprehension in world financial markets and political institutions. The spread fueled an increased sense of urgency among officials in some of the wealthiest nations in Europe and Asia, as well as in countries like Iran, with far fewer resources to stem the disease. But many remained uncertain about how best to contain it. “It’s a matter of speed and time: We must create a clear turning point within this week,” said President Moon Jae-in of South Korea, where the caseload grew by 144, with a total of 977 people sickened. Cases of people who could have infected many others spurred fears. Full article at link

Iranian strain of coronavirus a “morphed” version of the one in Wuhan
Tuesday, February 25, 2020 by: Ethan Huff Tags: China, containment, coronavirus, covid-19, disease, global emergency, infection, Iran, Iranian, morphed, mutations, novel coronavirus, outbreak, pandemic, strain, virus, Wuhan, Wuhan coronavirus (Natural News) During a recent segment on the Wuhan coronavirus (CoVid-19), a CNBC commentator explained that the strain currently circulating in Iran is different than the one that originated in Wuhan. A clip of the segment that was shared to Twitter by Disclose.tv shows the commentator explaining how the situation has changed now that the novel disease appears to be mutating. “At the end of the day, we don’t have any solutions, we don’t have any cures, we don’t have any vaccines. And this virus is morphing,” he’s heard stating. “There’s a report out today that the coronavirus cases found in Iran are a different strain, and they did not come out of China. So, that can be troubling if that proves to be true.” Some of the latest reports out of Iran reveal that schools are closing, hospitals are filling up, and chemicals are being sprayed in subways as the number of cases in the Middle Eastern country skyrocket. As it turns out, the earliest known cases in Iran of this particular strain of the Wuhan coronavirus (CoVid-19) were in people that hadn’t even traveled to China, suggesting that it started some other way that authorities have yet to determine. According to reports, the Iranian government has designated at least 230 hospitals across the country as treatment centers for the Wuhan coronavirus (CoVid-19). There are also 14 provinces where all cultural events, including soccer matches, have been put on hiatus. “In every city, one hospital will be dedicated to treating coronavirus cases,” stated Iranian Health Minister Saeed Namaki, adding that there would be more designated hospitals in the larger cities. Listen below as Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, talks about how mass government incompetence is causing the Wuhan coronavirus (CoVid-19) to spread faster than it should: If more infections emerge, entire city of Tehran with nine million people will be locked down The city of Tehran, Iran’s capital, is also starting to look like Wuhan with mass transit shutting down and disinfecting teams roving the city spraying chemicals. And if the situation gets any worse with more new cases, officials say they plan to shut Tehran down completely, putting about nine million people under mandatory quarantine. As of this writing, the number of coronavirus infections in Iran has breached 60, with at least 12 deaths. However, one lawmaker from the city of Qom told the media that at least 50 people have died from the Wuhan coronavirus (CoVid-19) in that city alone. “The rest of the media have not published this figure, but we prefer not to censor what concerns the coronavirus because people’s lives are in danger,” reported the semi-official news outlet ILNA. The Iranian government, meanwhile, has rejected this figure. Health Minister Iraj Harirchi announced on state television that this claim of at least 50 deaths in Qom is “categorically” false. Pakistan, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Kuwait, meanwhile, all of which border Iran, have shut down either all or some of their crossing points with the country in an effort to keep the disease from spreading outside its borders. “If a virus mutates then there is no possible way to develop a vaccine,” wrote one Twitter user in response to the news that the Iranian variety of the Wuhan coronavirus (CoVid-19) is different than the one spreading in Wuhan. “Nice knowing all of you…” “I personally think there is more to it,” wrote another. “No one at all is talking about how some blood groups are going to be more susceptible to it. I have done a ton of research and can tell you for a fact that some blood types are more susceptible to, for instance, HIV virus and others.” Be sure to check out the all-new Pandemic.news for more coronavirus news link

CDC Warns of Coronavirus Spread in USA: ‘Disruption to Everyday Life Might Be Severe’
JOSHUA CAPLAN25 Feb 20202,563 Dr. Nancy Messonnier, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, warned that the spread of China’s deadly coronavirus in the United States is all but certain and said Americans’ everyday life could be dramatically affected. “As more and more countries experience community spread, successful containment at our borders becomes harder and harder,” Messonnier told reporters on Tuesday afternoon. “It’s not a question of if this will happen but when this will happen and how many people in this country will have severe illnesses,” the top public health official added. “Disruption to everyday life might be severe.” Messonnier said the continued spread of the virus has led to a shift to a more dire tone. “The data over the last week and spread in other countries has certainly raised our level of concern, and raised our level of expectation that we are going to have community spread here, so that has changed our tone,” she said. The illness that originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan has now infected more than 80,000 people globally. 77,000 cases have been confirmed in China with others in parts of Europe and the Middle East. To date, 57 cases have been confirmed in the U.S., including 40 cases of people who the government transported from the Diamond Princess cruise ship from Japan. The virus’ spread caused the U.S. stock market to plunge. An expected rebound after Monday’s 1,000-point nosedive on Wall Street had yet to materialize by midday Tuesday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down nearly 500 points by 1 p.m. EST. The S&P 500 was down about 50 points and the Nasdaq 122 points. The 10-year Treasury yield hit a record low of 1.32 percent Tuesday while the 30-year bond also fell. Some experts anticipated at least somewhat of a rebound Tuesday, which has usually been seen following precipitous drops on a Monday, particularly after futures indicated a boost. link

SOUTH KOREAN CRISIS-RESPONSE COORDINATOR COMMITS SUICIDE AS CASES NEAR 1,000: LIVE UPDATESBy finanz.dk | 25. februar 2020
Via Zerohedge Update (0650ET): It’s not even 7 am in the US, and it looks like a new outbreak is beginning in Central Europe. Local news agencies report that Croatia has confirmed its first case, while the Austrian Province of Tyrol has confirmed two cases. In South Korea, meanwhile, officials have just confirmed the 11th coronavirus-linked death, a Mongolian man in his mid-30s who had a preexisting liver condition. Over in India, where President Trump is in the middle of an important state visit with the newly reelected Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the president struck an optimistic tone once again claiming that the virus will be a “short-term” problem that won’t have a lasting impact on the global economy. “I think it’s a problem that’s going to go away,” he said. Trump also reportedly told a group of executives gathered in India that the US has “essentially closed the borders” (well, not really) and that “we’re fortunate so far and we think it’s going to remain that way,” according to CNN. * * * Last night, a post written by Paul Joseph Watson highlighted commentary from a Harvard epidemiology professor (we realize we’ve heard from pretty much the whole department at this point in the crisis, but bear with us for a moment) who believes that, at some point, ‘we will all get the coronavirus’. Well, up to 70% of us, but you get the idea: The notion that this outbreak is far from over is finally starting to sink in. Stocks are struggling to erase yesterday’s losses, with US futures pointing to an open in the green after the biggest drop in two years. More corporations trashing their guidance, and more research offering a glimpse of the faltering Chinese economy (offering a hint that all the crematoriums are keeping air pollution levels elevated even as coal consumption and travel plunge) have seemingly trampled all over the market’s Fed-ensured optimism. READ ALSO Coronavirus updates: North Korea quarantines 380 foreigners, death toll climbs past 2,500 And across Europe, the Middle East and the Far East, headlines tied to the outbreak hit at a similarly non-stop pace on Tuesday. With so much news, where to start? In China, data out of the Transport Ministry revealed that barely one-third of China’s workforce has returned to work, despite state-inspired threats. CNN reported Tuesday that only 30% of small businesses in China have returned to work. The problem? Travel disruption has left millions of migrant workers stranded. There’s also the question of schools: Some cities, including Shanghai, are offering students the option of completing their studies online after March 2. China’s rapidly advancing tech sector has responded to the crisis by unleashing a wide range of technologies outfitted for specific tasks, including ferrying supplies to medical workers, fitting drones with thermal cameras and leveraging computer-processing power to aid the search for a vaccine. In a televised interview, one health official said it might take 28 days to safely say an area is free of coronavirus, while another official insisted that “low risk” areas should “resume normal activity” on Tuesday. The government is dividing the country outside Hubei and Beijing into three ‘risk’ tranches, and will mandate that those in the lowest tranche get back to work, school or whatever they were doing before the virus hit. Investors are clearly concerned that, instead of the ‘v’-shaped recovery promised by the IMF, the economic bounce-back from the coronavirus might be closer to a “u”-shape. On top of that, as cases proliferate in South Korea, Italy and the US, pundits are beginning to worry that the rest of the world is where China was two months ago – in other words Throughout the day, South Korea confirmed 144 more cases, bringing the country-wide total to 977, the highest number outside China. READ ALSO Brussels Bureaucrats Ably Visualize The EU's Decline As the Korean government warns that foreigners shouldn’t travel there, Korean Air Lines and Asiana Airlines, to South Korean airlines, said they would halt flights to Daegu until next month, leaving the door open to a longer shutdown. On Tuesday afternoon, South Korean President Moon Jae-in traveled to Daegu, the city where more than half of the country’s cases have been detected, and advised its residents to stay indoors but pledged to avoid the draconian restrictions Chinese authorities implemented in Wuhan. Outbreak-related news in Seoul took on a more morbid tone Tuesday following reports in the local press that a civil servant from the Ministry of Justice’s Emergency Safety Planning Office jumped off a bridge in Seoul at around 5 am local time Tuesday. The official was one of several individuals charged with overseeing the government’s response to the virus. As cases soar and hysteria mounts, we suspect this news won’t exactly help quiet the public’s nerves. A Singaporean government minister warned that the city-state could impose sweeping travel restrictions targeting South Korea if the outbreak gets worse. Minutes ago, Italian authorities confirmed another 8 coronavirus cases, 54 of which have been confirmed on Tuesday, bringing the total to 283. More than 100,000 Italians in 10 villages are under lockdown in the ‘red zone’ in northern Italy, where the military has been deployed and people have been told to stay inside. Fears about the virus spreading throughout the region were validated yesterday when Spain reported a third case, an Italian traveler. On Tuesday, Reuters reports that Spanish authorities have closed the Tenerife Hotel on the Canary Islands and are testing all of its occupants. Most of the cases have been recorded in Lombardy (200+), while Veneto, Emilia-Romagna, Piedmont, Bolzano, Trentino and Rome have all confirmed at least one case. The UK government warned that any British travelers in northern Italy should self-isolate, according to the Washington Post. READ ALSO Italy's UniCredit says Mustier to stay on as CEO In Japan, the “J League”, Japan’s professional soccer league, has announced that it will postpone all games until at least March 15, saying in a statement that it’s “fully committed” to stopping the spread of the coronavirus. The decision followed a government recommendation to cancel all public events and gatherings. Embracing a markedly different approach from Beijing, Japan has announced a new policy on Tuesday designed to focus medical care on the most serious cases, while urging people with mild symptoms to treat themselves at home. According to the FT, the new strategy of containment announced by a panel overseeing the virus response acknowledged that simply testing everyone potentially exposed to the more than 100 cases outside the ‘Diamond Princess’ would overwhelm its health-care system. It is radically different approach from that adopted by China, Though it hasn’t announced new cases in a day or so, Japan has confirmed 840 cases of novel coronavirus so far, with nearly 700 of them linked to the ‘Diamond Princess’ cruise ship. Iran’s ‘official’ death toll climbed to 14 on Tuesday, with 61 cases confirmed so far. Despite a wave of border closures that left Iran virtually isolated by its neighbors, more cases have started to bleed across the border: Iraqi health ministry officials have confirmed four coronavirus cases in Kirkuk, all of whom are members of a family. Even more embarrassing for the Iranians than having a local lawmaker expose the horrifyingly real death toll: on Tuesday, the government confirmed that a Deputy Health Minister had been sickened by the virus. We suspect we’ll be hearing more bad news from the Middle East as the full scope of the Iranian outbreak becomes more clear. link

San Francisco is filthy and has a huge homeless population. I imagine it would spread like wildfire there. San Francisco mayor declares coronavirus emergency
By COLLEEN SHALBYSTAFF WRITER FEB. 25, 2020 4:30 PM San Francisco Mayor London Breed has declared a local emergency amid coronavirus fears. “Although there are still zero confirmed cases in San Francisco residents, the global picture is changing rapidly, and we need to step up preparedness,” Breed said in a statement Tuesday. “We see the virus spreading in new parts of the world every day, and we are taking the necessary steps to protect San Franciscans from harm.” While three people have been treated for COVID-19 at San Francisco hospitals, there have been no confirmed cases of the illness in the city. Breed made the announcement following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s warning that the virus is likely to continue to spread. ETHIOPIA-CHINA-HEALTH-VIRUS-TRANSPORT-AVIATION SCIENCE Medical report underscores the limits of screening travelers for coronavirus Feb. 18, 2020 “Ultimately, we expect we will see coronavirus spread in this country,” CDC Director Nancy Messonnier said. “It’s not so much a question of if, but a question of when.” San Francisco’s declaration, effective immediately, will be in place for seven days and will be voted on by the Board of Supervisors on March 3. The decree will allow the city to allocate resources around coronavirus mitigation efforts. Such efforts include staffing, the coordination of agencies throughout the city, the allowance of future reimbursement by the state and federal governments and increased awareness throughout the city on coronavirus preparation methods. Santa Clara and San Diego counties have issued similar declarations. Concern In The Philippines As Wuhan Coronavirus Spreads SCIENCE Coronavirus symptoms: What to look for if you think you might be sick Feb. 3, 2020 San Francisco’s health officer, Dr. Tomás Aragón, said that decision was based in part on the high volume of travel between the city and Wuhan, China — the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak. “We are prioritizing children, people who live in congregate settings and vulnerable populations as we plan to reduce the potential for harm from the virus in the community. We have been working closely with the Chinese community, who are so impacted by this situation, and also at risk for stigma and discrimination,” he said. Breed reiterated the CDC’s call for schools and businesses to prepare for the likely spread of cases and prepare for possible school closures or work-from-home needs. Messonnier advised parents to talk to schools about the possibility of internet-based learning in the event that COVID-19 were to spread and students needed to refrain from going to school. She suggested businesses think about how to use teleconferencing if employees should need to work from home. And Messonnier said officials would also need to consider whether to cancel large community-based events. More than 2,600 people have died from the virus, the majority in mainland China. In the United States, there have been 57 confirmed cases; 40 of those are repatriated individuals from the Diamond Princess cruise ship. There are 15 confirmed cases in California. link

CHINESE CORONAVIRUS CAME FROM WUHAN INSTITUTE OF VIROLOGY, WAS THE LEAK AN ACCIDENT OR WAS IT DONE ON PURPOSE TO STOP HONG KONG PROTESTS?
China has unleashed a plague on its own people. It’s too early to say how many in China and other countries will ultimately die for the failures of their country’s state-run microbiology labs, but the human cost will be high. The evidence points to SARS-CoV-2 research being carried out at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. The virus may have been carried out of the lab by an infected worker or crossed over into humans when they unknowingly dined on a lab animal. by Geoffrey GriderFebruary 25, 2020 At an emergency meeting in Beijing held last Friday, Chinese leader Xi Jinping spoke about the need to contain the coronavirus and set up a system to prevent similar epidemics in the future. As the coronavirus from China continues to infect and kill the Chinese people, it is also doing damage in Algeria, Italy, Bahrain, Thailand, Spain, Austria, Croatia, Japan, Turkey and the Canary Islands. Today scientists warned that it could be coming to the United States as well. The death toll in China now stands at 2,663 souls and rising hourly with 77,600 confirmed cases. These are scary numbers but the Wuhan coronavirus is not a pandemic yet, the flu is still killing more people. But if the virus was released intentionally from a lab, wouldn’t you like to know that? I think you would, I sure would. Now evidence is sure starting to turn in that direction. “For I will at this time send all my plagues upon thine heart, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people; that thou mayest know that there is none like me in all the earth. For now I will stretch out my hand, that I may smite thee and thy people with pestilence; and thou shalt be cut off from the earth.” Exodus 9:14,15 (KJB) For all the tin foil hat conspiracies theories floating around right now, there is a thread of truth running through them. The coronavirus originated as SARS-CoV-2 research was being carried out at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China. Meaning, the coronavirus was made in a lab, we are not questioning that. But the question that arises, and it is a very good one, is did the Chinese government release it one purpose as a means of population control, or was it an accident? Whatever the case, it sure ended the protests for freedom that had been going on in Hong Kong pretty quickly. See? You had forgotten about that, didn’t you? Well played, China, well played. China has unleashed a plague on its own people. FROM THE NY POST: A national system to control bio-security risks must be put in place “to protect the people’s health,” Xi said, because lab safety is a “national security” issue. Xi Jinping didn’t actually admit that the coronavirus now devastating large swaths of China had escaped from one of the country’s bio-research labs. But the very next day, evidence emerged suggesting that this is exactly what happened, as the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology released a new directive titled: “Instructions on strengthening bio-security management in microbiology labs that handle advanced viruses like the novel coronavirus.” Read that again. It sure sounds like China has a problem keeping dangerous pathogens in test tubes where they belong, doesn’t it? And just how many “microbiology labs” are there in China that handle “advanced viruses like the novel coronavirus”? It turns out that in all of China, there is only one. And this one is located in the Chinese city of Wuhan that just happens to be … the epicenter of the epidemic. That’s right. China’s only Level 4 microbiology lab that is equipped to handle deadly coronaviruses, called the National Biosafety Laboratory, is part of the Wuhan Institute of Virology. What’s more, the People’s Liberation Army’s top expert in biological warfare, a Maj. Gen. Chen Wei, was dispatched to Wuhan at the end of January to help with the effort to contain the outbreak. According to the PLA Daily, Chen has been researching coronaviruses since the SARS outbreak of 2003, as well as Ebola and anthrax. This would not be her first trip to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, either, since it is one of only two bio-weapons research labs in all of China. Does that suggest to you that the novel coronavirus, now known as SARS-CoV-2, may have escaped from that very lab, and that Chen’s job is to try to put the genie back in the bottle, as it were? It does to me. Add to this China’s history of similar incidents. Even the deadly SARS virus has escaped — twice — from the Beijing lab where it was (and probably is) being used in experiments. Both “man-made” epidemics were quickly contained, but neither would have happened at all if proper safety precautions had been taken. And then there is this little-known fact: Some Chinese researchers are in the habit of selling their laboratory animals to street vendors after they have finished experimenting on them. You heard me right. Instead of properly disposing of infected animals by cremation, as the law requires, they sell them on the side to make a little extra cash. Or, in some cases, a lot of extra cash. One Beijing researcher, now in jail, made a million dollars selling his monkeys and rats on the live animal market, where they eventually wound up in someone’s stomach. ALSO FUELING SUSPICIONS ABOUT SARS-COV-2’S ORIGINS IS THE SERIES OF INCREASINGLY LAME EXCUSES OFFERED BY THE CHINESE AUTHORITIES AS PEOPLE BEGAN TO SICKEN AND DIE. They first blamed a seafood market not far from the Institute of Virology, even though the first documented cases of Covid-19 (the illness caused by SARS-CoV-2) involved people who had never set foot there. Then they pointed to snakes, bats and even a cute little scaly anteater called a pangolin as the source of the virus. I don’t buy any of this. It turns out that snakes don’t carry coronaviruses and that bats aren’t sold at a seafood market. Neither, for that matter, are pangolins, an endangered species valued for their scales as much as for their meat. The evidence points to SARS-CoV-2 research being carried out at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. The virus may have been carried out of the lab by an infected worker or crossed over into humans when they unknowingly dined on a lab animal. Whatever the vector, Beijing authorities are now clearly scrambling to correct the serious problems with the way their labs handle deadly pathogens. China has unleashed a plague on its own people. It’s too early to say how many in China and other countries will ultimately die for the failures of their country’s state-run microbiology labs, but the human cost will be high. I have done a ton of research and can tell you for a fact that some blood types are more susceptible to, for instance, HIV virus and others.” link

BY DARRELL SMITH AND CATHIE ANDERSON FEBRUARY 26, 2020 04:31 PM Wuhan coronavirus reaches the United States: What you should know The 2019 Novel Coronavirus has sickened hundreds of people and killed more than two dozen people. Coronavirus is part of a family of viruses that ranges in severity. Learn more about the virus here. BY META VIERS Officials with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed the nation’s first coronavirus case of unknown origin Wednesday in Northern California in the latest sign of the virus’ rapid spread. “It is a confirmed case. There is one in Northern California,” CDC spokesman Scott Pauley told The Sacramento Bee just before 4 p.m. Wednesday. In the Northern California case, “the individual is a resident of Solano County and is receiving medical care in Sacramento County. The individual had no known exposure to the virus through travel or close contact with a known infected individual,” California Department of Public Health officials said in a news release Wednesday evening. State public health officials in Sacramento, citing the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said the case is the first person-to-person transmission of the COVID-19 virus. Earlier cases of person-to-person transmission in Illinois and in San Benito County came “after close, prolonged interaction with a family member who returned from Wuhan, China, and had tested positive for COVID-19,” California Department of Public Health officials said in their Wednesday statement. link

Coronavirus latest: Stark CDC, WHO warnings add to global gloom: 'This could be bad'
Anjalee Khemlani Senior Reporter Yahoo FinanceFebruary 25, 2020 Grim warnings on Tuesday from public health officials about the spread of the coronavirus coincided with new cases appearing across Europe, sparking a sell-off in markets and stirring new worries about a global pandemic. China, the epicenter of the outbreak, continues to see a declining number of new cases. However, the outbreak has spread to South Korea, Japan, Italy and Iran. Meanwhile, isolated infections in Austria, Croatia and Spain have added to global concerns about a worldwide emergency and weighed heavily on Wall Street, even though officials have downplayed the prospect of a pandemic. At a daily news briefing, Nancy Messonnier, the Centers for Disease Control’s director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, warned that the risk of the virus spreading domestically is on the rise — and could prove severely disruptive to everyday life. “We are asking the American public to prepare for the expectation that this might be bad,” Messonnier told reporters, as the Trump administration stepped up its efforts to manage the virus’ after-effects. Messonnier added it is no longer “a matter of if, but when” the virus spreads, and how many people in the country end up contracting a severe case of the virus. Australia ready for a coronavirus pandemic and sustained outbreak
Australia has leapt ahead of the World Health Organisation and is set to declare a coronavirus pandemic, preparing health authorities for a sustained outbreak as the disease spreads around the world. Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the last 24-hours had fundamentally altered the government's response to the COVID-19 virus as the government prepares for months of disruption and triggers emergency measures at hospitals, schools and aged care facilities. "While the World Health Organisation is yet to declare the nature of the coronavirus and its move towards a pandemic phase, we believe the risk of a global pandemic is very much upon us," he said. "We're effectively operating now on the basis that there is a pandemic." Full article at link

Hawaii Residents urged to prepare for potential of coronavirus outbreak
Hawaii residents urged to take precautions as CDC issues stark warning of coronavirus outbreak By HNN Staff | February 25, 2020 at 4:37 PM HST - Updated February 26 at 5:11 PM HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - The state is urging residents to take steps now to prepare for the potential spread of the coronavirus to Hawaii amid a stark warning from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that the virus could cause a “significant disruption” to American life. “It’s not so much a matter of if this will happen anymore, but rather more a question of exactly when this will happen and how many people in this country will have severe illness,” said Dr. Nancy Messonnier, director of the CDC National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases. “We cannot hermetically seal off the United States to a virus, and we need to be realistic about that." Although there are still no confirmed cases of coronavirus in Hawaii, the state Department of Health issued some guidance for what people can do to be ready, including by having a 14-day kit of emergency supplies at home. “While there are no cases of COVID-19 identified in Hawaii at this time, state health officials do expect to eventually identify cases in Hawaii because this is a global health threat to our entire nation,” Health Department officials said, in a news release Tuesday. “At this time, the imminent threat here in Hawaii is low.” Full article at link

Half of Italy’s Regions Infected with Coronavirus
MILAN, ITALY - FEBRUARY 26: A man wearing a mask rides a bicycle on an empty Corso Garibaldi, a main road in the city center on February 26, 2020 in Milan, Italy. Only the minority of people are wearing a mask in Milan at the moment. The country is struggling …Marco Di Lauro/Getty Images ALANA MASTRANGELO 26 Feb 2020256 2:23 Ten of Italy’s twenty regions are infected with coronavirus as of Wednesday, with Lombardy and Veneto the two most heavily affected regions in the nation. So far, 400 people have been confirmed to be infected with the virus, which has resulted in 12 deaths as of Wednesday, according to a report by La Repubblica. Authorities have identified 258 cases in Lombardy, 71 in Veneto, 47 in Emilia-Romagna, 11 in Liguria, three in Piedmont, Lazio ,and Sicily; two in Tuscany, and one in both Alto Adige and Marche. The Chinese coronavirus has resulted in 12 fatalities in Italy, but three people are reported to have been “healed.” Italy’s “Patient Zero” remains at large, but “Patient One” is reported to be in serious but stable condition. The 38-year-old is hospitalized in the intensive care unit of the Policlinico San Matteo Hospital in Pavia, Lombardy. There are 36 people hospitalized in intensive care in Italy, according to La Repubblica. The report added that a pregnant woman from Lombardy infected with the coronavirus has given birth in Piacenza, Emilia-Romagna. The baby tested negative for the infection. “Over half those tested positive do not need hospital treatment,” said Emergency Commissioner Angelo Borrelli during a press conference at the Civil Protection. Italy’s travel and tourism industry is nonetheless expecting to lose at least €5 billion in tourism over fears of the coronavirus outbreak, according to Federturismo Confindustria president Marina Lalli, who said that the spread of the virus in Italy “has brought the Italian tourism industry to its knees.” “Is this government able to handle this emergency? My answer is no,” said former Italian Deputy Prime minister Matteo Salvini, expressing his lack of faith in the leaders of the Italian government. On Monday, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte admitted that a hospital in northern Italy contributed to the spread of the coronavirus in the country, as it apparently “did not follow protocol.” link
