The Messiah is coming! The Messiah is coming! We need to prepare!











This announcement reminds me of the watchman's midnight cry - "Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!" (Matthew 25:6). While I wholeheartedly agree that the Messiah is coming and that we need to prepare our hearts and sound the alarm, I'm not quite sure that we are talking about the SAME Messiah. Let's examine who, exactly, the Jewish Rabbis are anticipating to come "this year". Do they have some secret knowledge we should pay attention to?





Jewish Messianic Date-Setting

While there have been rumors of the imminent coming of the "Messiah" (Moshiach in Hebrew) for a few years now in Orthodox Jewish circles, what's interesting to me is that this winter has brought with it a rash of Messianic date-setting. Date-setting as in, right away, date-setting.



The above quoted conversation comes from a discussion between two well-respected and high positioned Jewish rabbis - Rabbi (Rav) Badani and Rabbi Berland - on January 30, 2019. It occurred during a traditional blessing upon Rabbi Badani's grandchild. The conversation turned to questions about the coming redemption of Israel. During this discussion on redemption, Rabbi Berland made the claim that the Messiah will come immediately after Seder (Passover) night, this year.



It would be one thing if Rabbi Berland were the only one making this claim. Even well-respected people sometimes go off on tangents and claim all sorts of things. However, prominent Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky has also claimed that the Messiah will come this Spring - prior to the upcoming Israeli elections.



Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky, one of the most prominent rabbis of this generation, made a shocking statement, claiming that the Messiah will precede the upcoming Israeli elections. Several rabbis noted that the writing is on the wall and the signs that the process leading up to the Messiah has already begun…for those who have the eyes to see it.



Rabbi Yekutiel Fish, an expert in Kabbalah (Jewish mysticism) gave a lesson this week in which he discussed how the Messiah was imminent. Rabbi Fish cited Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky, one of the most prominent Haredi (ultra-Orthodox) rabbis of this generation, who began foretelling the arrival of the Messiah just a few years ago.



“It is written that in the days leading up to the Messiah, tzaddikim (righteous men) will begin to announce his arrival but some people, those who have not prepared for His arrival, will laugh at the righteous and the learned,” Rabbi Fish said, warning that it is forbidden to mock the righteous."



Rabbi Fish related a story that is just now being told within Haredi circles in Israel. A young Torah scholar from outside of Israel was hosted for the Sabbath a few weeks ago at the house of a follower of Rabbi Kanievsky. The young man visited Kanievsky during the Sabbath. He asked the rabbi if he should apply for Israeli citizenship in order to vote for the Haredi party in the Israeli elections being held on April 9.



“There is no need,” Rabbi Kanievsky answered. “The Messiah will already be here before the elections.”



The young man was unsure that he had heard the rabbi correctly so after he departed from the house, he asked Kanievsky’s grandson, a venerated rabbi in his own right, to confirm the answer. The grandson entered the rabbi’s chamber and asked again: ‘Should the young man apply for citizenship before the elections?’



Rabbi Kanievsky responded, “I already told him that there is no need. The Messiah will be here before the elections.”

Breaking Israel News, an Israeli news source, describes Rabbi Kanievsky as "one of the most learned and righteous Jews alive today". These are highly regarded, senior-level, Ultra-Orthodox Rabbis making these claims.



Rabbi Matityahu Glazerson has also verified that the year 5779 appears to be significant concerning the coming Messiah. Rabbi Glazerson is most known for his work in Torah codes.

The coronavirus quarantine in effect in Israel is unpleasant but as Passover approaches, it becomes clear that it is a powerful aspect of the final redemption, recreating the seder ritual in a prophetic form it has bot taken since the original redemption from Egypt.



The details of eating the Passover lamb are described in Exodus. One particular section of the Bible describes the seder (the ritual meal eaten Passover night) as it was performed the evening before the Children of Israel left Egypt. Though this version of the seder was only performed that one time, one detail, in particular, is relevant today.



They shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they are to eat it. Exodus 12:7



Rabbi Jacob ben Asher (also known as Ba’al ha-Turim), a 13th Century Torah scholar from Cologne, commented on how to perform the ritual.



“[And we see in a later verse that] Aaron and his sons will eat [the offering] in the [Tabernacle] tent and will not come out, here also you will not come out of your house, thereby teaching that the final redemption is like the first redemption”



Similar to the traditional American Thanksgiving feast, Passover is normally a time for family and friends to gather together for a festive meal. But due to the coronavirus, there is a quarantine in effect throughout Israel as well as many regions in the U.S. This means that most Jewish homes will be having an ‘isolated’ Passover seder with few, if any, guests. In other words, this year, the Jewish people will be like the priests in the tabernacle and just like the ancient Jews in Egypt were in their homes – insular and isolated.



Lest the reference by Rabbi ben Asher be classified as vague and applicable to a different era, the Torah continues describing that first unique ‘redemptive’ seder.



Do not eat any of it raw, or cooked in any way with water, but roasted—head, legs, and entrails—over the fire. Exodus 12:9



In this verse, the Hebrew word for ‘raw’ is נָא (na). The medieval French Biblical authority, Rabbi Shomo Yitzchaki, who is known by the acronym Rashi, commented on this verse:



אל תאכלו ממנו נא. שֶׁאֵינוֹ צָלוּי כָּל צָרְכּוֹ קוֹרְאוֹ נָא בְלָשׁוֹן עֲרָבִי:



Don’t eat it raw: that is not roasted all that is necessary, which is called ‘na’ in Arabic. In Hebrew, “called ‘na’” is pronounced corona.



Two verses further on, the purpose of that original seder and the blood on the doorposts is explicitly described in a manner that is just as relevant today:

I want to emphasize I don't agree with what they're saying, as their "messiah" will be the Antichrist, but in many, many years of watching I've never seen such messianic fervor!

‘Coronavirus is Pandemic Revealed in Zohar Right Before Messiah’s Arrival’ explains Rabbi

The rabbi then referenced the Zohar (page 172:b), the seminal work of Jewish mysticism, paraphrasing the text.


In a lecture last month, a young rabbi revealed a section of the Zohar which predicts that in the later stages of the final days, the world will be hit with a pandemic. As horrifying as that sounds, the Zohar goes on to predict that the initial disease will be followed by another, similar to the first but far more lethal.



Rav Yaakov Yagen gave a lecture last month concerning the synagogue and public prayer. He referred to classical Jewish sources stating that public prayer is one of the things that protects the public from plagues and disease.



“The sages of Israel said about public prayer, honoring the synagogue, and other things like that are important and protect us from epidemic. So the more we are strengthening in these so we don’t have to panic, we can remain calm that God,will be with us.”



The lecture was given at a time that the coronavirus was considered threatening but the measures taken to prevent the spread were relatively mild when compared to the total lockdown many governments are enforcing.



“I’m not downplaying this virus,” Rabbi Yagen said. “This could be a very dangerous thing and if, God forbid, this should spread, this could be the end. But God watches over us. We have to do our effort by respecting the synagogue more, and the rest is up to God to protect us.



The rabbi then referenced the Zohar (page 172:b), the seminal work of Jewish mysticism, paraphrasing the text.



“At the end of days, when it is time for the Messiah, there is first going to be one virus that the people are going to have some sort of control over it when it spreads around the countries of the world. And after that, it doesn’t say how much later, there is going to be another virus that is going to be similar but worse than the first virus.”



“And that is going to be God’s way of purifying the world so Messiah can come.”



“So according to the Zohar, we are at the end of the days. Not the days leading up to but we are at the end of the end of the days leading up to Messiah. So, God willing, this Passover, we won’t have to book hotels and we will all be in Jerusalem and the Temple where we will all merit bringing the Passover offering.”

‘Coronavirus Here to Offset Satan’s Complaints Against Mankind’ says Prominent Rabbi

A prominent rabbi noted that the unique characteristics of the coronavirus serve to bring “the fear of death” into the world without actually killing millions like previous pandemics. This fear will mitigate Satan’s complaints against mankind and bring about the final redemption.



The Great Plague Before Messiah



Rabbi Mendel Kessin, an international speaker and noted Torah scholar, weighed in on the coronavirus. The rabbi opened his lecture by noting that it was highly significant that this one topic, the coronavirus was consuming the attention of the entire world. He cited a midrash (homiletic teaching) on Song of Songs.



The green figs form on the fig tree, The vines in blossom give off fragrance. Arise, my darling; My fair one, come away! Song of Songs 2:13



The midrash stated that Rabbi Chiya Bar Abba taught that shortly before the days of the Messiah, a great plague would come to the world. Rabbi Chiya stated that the wicked will perish in that plague.



“Are we that close to the Messiah?,” Rabbi Kessin asked rhetorically. “I believe that we are that close. I believe that the plague referred to in the Midrash is this coronavirus. We are looking at the hand of God.”



Coronavirus: Not a Killer



“Even if we perceive it as a tragedy, God is doing this out of love and to benefit mankind. We have to believe this. We have to ask ourselves what this pandemic is doing, what problem could it be solving?”



The rabbi compared the coronavirus to the Black Death, the Bubonic plague pandemic that killed over 100 million people, more that half of Europe, in the 14th century. He also noted the Spanish Flu in the beginning of the 20th century that killed an estimated 50-100 million people.



“The central feature of these pandemics was the death of millions of people,” Rabbi Kessing said. “Those plagues were clearly intended to wipe out large sections of the population. But when we take a look at the coronavirus, there is something different here.”



Rabbi Kessin noted that despite far-ranging and lightning-fast spread of the disease, the death rate from the coronavirus, though tragic, was relatively low.



“The objective of this pandemic is clearly not death,” he concluded. “If God wanted this plague to kill people, far more people would be dying. It would be devastating like the Bubonic Plague or Spanish Flu. We are not looking at a plague that was meant to wipe out tens of millions of people. It is providing suffering and sickness. But even that is not a significant feature when compared to previous pandemics.”



Fear of Death Worse Than Death Itself



“There is suffering but the main characteristic is that this plague is bringing about the fear of death,” Rabbi Kessin said. “Everyone is afraid today. That is the main characteristic that makes this plague different; the universal fear of death.”



“The second major feature of the coronavirus is the concept of a quarantine. People have to isolate themselves in their houses. The third major feature is the economic collapse of entire countries. God called forth a tiny little creature that has frozen the entire civilization, all over the world. This tiny creature has stopped all of mankind in its tracks.”



“What God is trying to do is to bring redemption. This coronavirus is a necessary forerunner to redemption. Before the geula there is a tikkun process, a process of rectification. We have to bring God back into our process of interacting with the world. The main way of doing this is through mitzvot, commandments. And if we don’t there is t’shuvah, repentance. And if we don’t repent, then God brings yissurim (tribulations) as a tikkun device. These three devices, mitzvot, tshuvah, yissurim, are what bring redemption.”



Satan the Prosecutor Being Appeased for Three Main Sins



“There remain certain major obstacles to the Redemption, the main one being the prosecution by Satan, the prosecuting angel. His job is to defend justice, which is how he is essential to bringing the redemption. Redemption can only happen when justice is satisfied.”



“The main obstacles to redemption that exist today that are being brought by Satan, the sins that mankind is doing, are zimah (sexual depravity and immorality), baseless hatred, and materialism.”



“The world is involved in an unprecedented level of sexual corruption. Hatred is fueled by lashon hara (slander). Mankind is destroying itself. Both of these are made so easy by the internet. And we see that the world is immersed in materialism and physicality.”



“Of course there are many other ways to sin but these are the three major obstacles to redemption. Satan wants to stop these sins in order to return justice to the world. God has designed a ‘drug’ to cure these sins; the coronavirus. It will alleviate the accusations of Satan and bring the redemption.”



“Unlike previous epidemics that were global in nature which killed millions of people, the chief objective of this plague comes to instill the fear of death. The history of mankind is actually the history of our wars, man’s inhumanity to man. So many people are reincarnations, and many of these people are guilty of sins that require the death penalty. God has to mitigate this but He is not going to do this with actual death. What He will do is substitute death with something that will allow mankind to survive while satisfying the requirement for a death sentence.”



Rabbi Kessin cited the Talmud as saying that there are several things that can satisfy a judgment of death.



“The fear of death is considered equivalent to the actual death penalty. And that is what God is doing to the entire world with the coronavirus. Another thing equivalent to the death penalty is poverty. The entire world is experiencing this now. Everyone is worried where their food will come from.”



“The coronavirus was sent to alleviate mankind from the judgment of a death penalty for what they did in this life as well as previous incarnations,” Rabbi Kessin concluded.
