PALM BEACH, Fla. – Sometimes irony can be pretty ironic, even for the president of the United States.
While Barack Obama is selling items such as mugs, buttons and T-shirts in his online store to cash in on controversy over his birthplace and eligibility, it seems anyone interested in making a purchase has to be a U.S. citizen, or at least a legal permanent resident.
At the bottom of the checkout page in the online store, Obama’s campaign has posted the following:
“Legal Compliance. You have confirmed that the following statements are true and accurate: 1. I am a United States citizen or a lawfully admitted permanent resident of the United States.”
The irony did not pass radio host Rush Limbaugh today, who said, “You have to prove your citizenship to buy one of those, because it’s a campaign contribution. I kid you not, folks. [My call screener Bo] Snerdley is in there laughing. He’s got fluids coming out of every bodily orifice in there laughing so hard. It’s true. They’re the ones out there selling all the birth-certificate stuff, trying to make money.”
“Snerdley just said, ‘The next thing they’re going to be asking for is a birth certificate,’” Limbaugh noted.
Obama’s online store also confirms, “Contributions will be used in connection with a Federal election.”
It says, “Federal law requires us to use our best efforts to collect and report the name, mailing address, occupation, and name of employer of individuals whose contributions exceed $200 in an election cycle.”
Limbaugh also noted delegates attending the Democratic National Convention are required to show their photo identification to get in.
“It’s very racist,” Limbaugh clowned. “Not only are they requiring a photo ID to attend, you have to produce it three times. You have to produce a photo ID three times to get in the door. You even have to show a photo ID to get close to the convention center. Apparently Democrats are trying to suppress their own delegates.”
