A South African woman has reportedly given birth to 10 babies at once — smashing a world record set just last month.



Gosiame Thamara Sithole, already a 37-year-old mom of six-year-old twins, initially thought she was going to have eight kids, becoming a rare “Octomom” like Californian Nadya Suleman, according to a report Tuesday.



But when she gave birth by Caesarean section at a Pretoria hospital Monday she was surprised when 10 babies emerged, her husband, Teboho Tsotetsi, told the Pretoria News.



“It’s seven boys and three girls,” Tsotetsi told the outlet of his wife who was “seven months and seven days pregnant.”



“I am happy. I am emotional. I can’t talk much. Let’s talk again in the morning please,” Tsotetsi told the outlet.



Sithole, from Ekurhuleni, said that her pregnancy was natural and that she had not received fertility treatment, which has been linked to other multiple-baby births.

Gosiame Thamara Sithole gave birth by Caesarean section to seven boys and three girls.


If confirmed, Sithole’s 10-kid delivery would make it the first known birth of decuplets.



The previous record was claimed by Halima Cisse, who reportedly gave birth to nine kids — nonuplets — in Malia last month.


“Guinness World Records is aware of the news that Gosiame Thamara Sithole has given birth to decuplets, and we send our congratulations and best wishes to the family,” a spokesperson for the records listing told The Post Tuesday.



“At the current time, we are yet to verify this as a record as the wellbeing of both the mother and babies is of top priority.



“Our records team alongside a specialist consultant are looking into this,” the spokesperson said.





Sithole had shown off her huge pregnant belly last month during a photoshoot with her husband when they still thought they were expecting octuplets.

The South African mom who claimed to have given birth to a record 10 babies was not even pregnant, a local government inquiry found.



The Gauteng Provincial Government said Wednesday it had “conducted a thorough check with all hospitals” in the area to “establish the veracity” of Gosiame Thamara Sithole’s claims that she had given birth to decuplets.



“None of the hospitals in the province, public and private, had any records of such births at their facilities,” the government said.



When officials finally reached Sithole, 37 — whose own husband could not contact her — she was taken in for a 72-hour psychiatric evaluation that was extended by a week, the officials said.



“It has now been established by medical practitioners that Ms Sithole did not give birth to any babies in recent times,” the statement revealed. “It has also been established that she was not pregnant in recent times.”

Woman who claims she gave birth to 10 babies admitted to psychiatric ward

The South African woman who claims she gave birth to 10 babies at once has been admitted to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation amid growing speculation over whether she was ever actually pregnant with decuplets.



Gosiame Thamara Sithole, 37 — who made headlines for the alleged record-breaking birth — was taken to the psychiatric ward last week at Tembisa Hospital in Johannesburg and examined by a medical team, South Africa’s Eyewitness News reported.



“The medical evaluation has shown that there was no pregnancy. It also shows that there are no physical scars to indicate a recent C-section,” a source told the outlet.



Her attorney, Refiloe Mokoena, said Sithole claims she is “now being held against her will” at the hospital.



“She declined that she should be taken to the Tembisa Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation because she felt strongly that she is of sound mind,” Mokoena told South African site IOL.
