The Colossians Heresy

If you've looked at many of the end times boards - and are spiritually discerning - what you'll see is extremely disturbing: extra-Biblical experiences abound; dozens of people have a dream with a message "from god" frequently - some almost every night; others claim to travel back and forth between heaven and earth, while others claim to have been shown hell by "Jesus." Of course, "Jesus" visits with some of them in person frequently, whereas he "talks" to others through things like license plates. They chase after lying signs and wonders...and of course everything is a "sign," from the design of a new postage stamp to having to get up to urinate precisely at midnight to just about any number you can think of, to the amount of change received from a purchase. (If you don't know what I'm talking about, you haven't read the "Here's Your Sign!" thread.)
"Confirmations" of when the rapture is abound, with such unbiblical (and even occult) methods such as astrology (in the guise of legitimate astronomy), numerology, and even automatic writing being used to "prove" these demonic messages are from "god." "Prophets" have proven themselves to be false time and time again - some for 20+ years...yet that doesn't stop their followers from hanging onto their every word.
One of the nutty sites proudly proclaims, "God was born again!" on its front page. Two others have forums about "Dreams, Visions, and Prophecies," "Visits to Heaven or Hell and Back," "Real Angel Sightings & Sounds," and one even has a forum about stories of people who have been allegedly raised from the dead. The number of visits to these sites is astronomical; one can't help but wonder if so many people are so blatantly deceived, or if they're going there to read "what those crazy Christians are talking about."
In 2 Corinthians, Paul speaks of a man who was "was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter." Yet this crowd has no problem with putting their (no doubt demonic) experiences out there for all the world to read....and never mind many of their stories conflict with each other! It wasn't lawful for Paul to utter what he say, but hey, that doesn't stop them - they're special! (Not that I believe for one moment that their experiences were of God, as Paul's was.)
"Holy" laughter, being "slain in the spirit," manifestations of gold dust and gold fillings in teeth, the appearance of "angel feathers"....just put a "Christian" label on it and they'll gobble it up, and never mind the admonitions to test the spirits and be Bereans, or the warning that Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. They are completely deceived...and their eternal souls are in jeopardy. I have to agree with some (legitimate) Bible teachers who say they're on the verge of blaspheming the Holy Spirit, because they boldly attribute things to Him that He never said. Frankly, I'm with Mike Hoggard: The Bible alone has everything we need; although I do believe the Holy Spirit deals with each believer individually, the Canon is closed.
The following is a study in three parts about some of the heresies which abound these days; it's a long read, but well worth your time. He addresses the subject of angels, and alleged visits to heaven and hell, in part 3:
