PIZZA MONKEY BREAD
Prep Time: 20 minutes Cook Time: 1 hour Total Time: 1 hour 20 minutes Yield: 8 servings
INGREDIENTS
3, 12 ounce packages of refrigerated buttermilk biscuits*
1/4 cup salted butter, melted
2 teaspoons dried oregano
2 teaspoons dried parsley
2 teaspoons dried chives
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 cup of your favorite pizza toppings*
2 cups shredded pizza cheese like mozzarella, asiago and parmesan
Coarse sea salt, for sprinkling on top after baking
Your favorite marinara or pizza sauce, for dipping
INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. and grease a 10-12 cup bundt pan with cooking spray.
In a large bowl, whisk together the butter, oregano, parsley, chives, salt, pepper and garlic powder.
Cut the cold biscuits into quarters. Add them to the bowl with the butter mixture and toss to coat.
Layer the biscuits and the cheese and the pizza toppings in the bundt pan. You will press the biscuits into the bottom of the pan and then sprinkle a good amount of the cheese and toppings on top and press them down into the spaces between the biscuits. Continue this until your bundt pan is about 3/4 of the way full. Leave a little space at the top as they will rise quite a bit while baking.
Bake at 350 degrees F. for 45-60 minutes or until golden brown and no longer doughy in the center when a skewer is inserted. If the top starts to get too brown before it is done, cover lightly with foil.*
Let cool for about 10 minutes before carefully turning out onto plate. Don’t let it sit longer or it will get completely stuck to the pan.
Sprinkle the top with coarse sea salt and serve with marinara sauce for dipping!
NOTES
I use a 10 cup bundt pan for this recipe and usually end up with half a package of biscuits leftover. If you use a 12 cup pan, you will likely be able to fit all of them.
I used about 1/2 cup chopped pepperoni and 1/2 cup sliced green olives, but you can use any pizza toppings you like! All toppings can be added raw except for any other meats like sausage, which will need to be cooked in a pan and the excess fat drained off first.
This is a large range in the time because it will depend on the size and shape of the bundt pan and your oven. I have found that monkey bread can bake in 45 minutes in some ovens and pans or closer to an hour in some. Start checking at 45.
